>Volvo Cars CEO warns of doom in the automotive world.
>Some will adapt to the new conditions and survive. Others will not, says Håkan Samuelsson.

>Volvo has had a tough 2025. Car sales have fallen by 10 percent, electric cars by 24 percent. The share price has fallen by 20 percent. But new CEO Håkan Samuelsson is confident that the future is all electric.
– It may take a little longer in some regions, but the direction is clear. In about ten years, all cars will be electric and they will be cheaper, Håkan Samuelsson tells Bloomberg .

Opinions? I think anyone denying an all electric future is delusional about the state of EV development. There is so much happening in the field every year and by each passing year, more and more of the used market becomes EV too. Won't be long before the low budget killers that already exist in China will be commonplace in the west too, and then it's all over for ICE.
>>
maybe I'm wrong but I think the people who own lithium mines or battery factories are paying people to say some crazy stupid things. nobody wants electric cars except people who financially stand to benefit from their manufacture and being totally tone deaf about that is weird.
>>
>>28613684
The people who own lithium mines are as fraction as powerful as the people who own the petrol you buy.
>>
>>28613688
but the people who rule the owners of both want to get rid of the latter, so guess who wins in the end
>>
>>28613676
I think EVs make an excellent second car for any family that wants two cars and owns a house with a garage.
>>
>>28613684
there are electric cars all over here. lots of people drive one. i'm not sure where you get that no one wants one.

Maybe it's just a Volvo problem? Maybe people don't want chink twincharged 4bangers? Meanwhile ICE's fly off the shelves compared to EV's.
>>
Volvo ceo is a faggot
>>
>>28614013
It's just a matter of time really. Battery packs get more dense by each passing year. This is why the CEO gives a 10 year deadline. In 10 years, EV battery will have developed to such a point that it will beat ICE in value and performance in ALL fields. This rapid technology development is also why new EVs depreciate so hard.
>>
>>28614380
>Battery packs get more dense by each passing year
No they fucking don't lol. Their capacities have been stagnant for the last 20 years. All we do is just make bigger cells and use more of them.
>just 2 more weeks!
Give it up.
>>
>>28614025
nah. it’s the only was EVs become tolerable
>>
>>28614387
Yes they fucking do. The same sized EVs sport way more energy dense batteries now compared to five years ago. Just compare the range of Neue Klasse BMW to last year's model. Same sized car, gives 200km more range while costing less brand new than the previous model did. This level of development is unheard of with the combustion engine.
>>
>>28613676
It's inevitable as the technology improves and costs fall. In a few decades ICE for passenger vehicles will be like CRTs are for TVs now. Antiquated, cumbersome technology replaced by simpler, more efficient (though not always better) technology.
>>
>>28613967

Electric cars are amazing.

In a proper world we would have multiple fuel types and people could pick whatever is the best for their situation.

If you want a big V8 sports car you can have one.

If you want an EV you can have one.

That's a bad business bet. EVs are not a good deal economically for working class people which is the vast majority of their customers. Even the people who can afford them and the devaluation loss of them are starting to refuse them. If the future is EVs it's cheap Chinese EVs that are actually economically viable for the masses of plebs.
>>
EVs are an attack on poor people. If you’re poor you likely live in an apartment so you can’t charge your EV. The government wants to stop poor people from having cars
>>

I get that they are smoother to drive and quieter, but they are MUCH heavier and have issues with storage and space to let your foot hang esp in the rear and of course, with taking 30-60 minutes to charge, and at way less places, and being wildly impractical if you live in steep hills or rural areas and enjoy road trips

It just seems like a way of selling more expensive vehicles to a populace that has little interest in them - it feels very artificial and not driven by actual consumer demand.
>>
The only people I know who drive EVs are elderly ladies.
My buddy was selling his corvette and we had to deliver it to the buyer. The buyer ran a tesla service and import company. Guess what car he drove us back home in. Yep, an inline 5 diesel volvo.
>>
>>28615916
>but they are MUCH heavier and have issues with storage and space to let your foot hang esp in the rear and of course, with taking 30-60 minutes to charge
Those are older EVs made on older platforms. The recent EV platforms allow a pretty long wheel base which makes the interiors more roomy. Most new EVs fast charge 10-80% in 20 minutes.

What your post highlights is how rapid the EV development has been. In a decade, EVs will be the obvious poorfag choice of a value car.
>>
>>28615923
You're heavily dumb. In a decade the poorfag value car will be B38 BMW. Because the Puretechs, Ecoboosts and Vagshit will be in junkyards.
>>
>>28615923
>The recent EV platforms allow a pretty long wheel base which makes the interiors more roomy.
I mean, I'd have to sit in them, but batteries have to go SOMEWHERE, so either there's less room for your legs, or the whole thing is higher riding meaning it's less stable in the wind and in curves.
EVs still add a 1-2k lb weight penalty to any vehicle.
>Most new EVs fast charge 10-80% in 20 minutes.
which: degrades the battery more rapidly if you have to do it that way most of the time
also, that's like 20-80% so your actual range isn't the full range
and with EVs they go slower when they are low on battery (unlike a gas powered car)
and its much harder to find chargers in rural areas and mountains and you better hope they work, are unoccupied, and are delivering peak flow
+ even being stuck for 20 minutes is still 4x longer than a visit to a normal gas station takes and it adds up if you have to find these places often on a road trip
if you like exploring rural america, like I do, evs make no sense
they are toys for rich people, and making your lineup ev only and ignoring gas powered cars is a sign of a brand ready to die

if you live somewhere hilly, or where it gets very cold, evs are not that smart an idea
>>

Nah, miss me with that shit. I'd be interested in an EV if they made retrofit kits for old cars with batteries the size of a 60 l fuel tank you can recharge from zero to full in 5 minutes, range unaffected by weather and temperature and real actual range of 500 km on one charge. Every single nucar looks worse than low LOD cars from GTA III and EVs are even worse. Nothing like I mentioned is going to happen though so they can fuck right off.

I worked for an EV company (not Tesla, but another massive one) and EVs are struggling. Those stupid public fast chargers are either broken all the time or have those shady tactics like "charges UP TO" but then only really charges at a much slower rate. Then there's shit like range anxiety and mechanics/technicians that don't want to work on them, even dealerships are annoyed by them since they have to get one tech that specifically knows about all the tech on board since they really are just big computers.

The motors and batteries are honestly pretty reliable and motor issues are extremely rare, but it's all the computer shit that tends to fuck EVs up, so you need a tech (basically an IT guy) on site for EVs and that's all he'll work on. What fucks things even more is if the EV can't be fixed on the day and it's been towed in, it rots at the service center and takes up space for the regular cars that can be fixed within the day.

>"a few big Chinese car companies will rule the market in the future"
Volvo being one of them. Of course Volvo's CEO is against lifting bans on petrol engines in the EU, since he's the CEO of a Chinese EV company. He wants China to take over the EV market in the EU by selling for cheap at first, and jacking up the prices when they've taken over.
>>
>>28617355
The VW CEO wants the ban to remain too. He also says EV is the inevitable future of automobile industry. There's too much progress in comparison to ICE which is stagnant, convoluted and wasteful technology. If EU keeps bury its head in the sand, China WILL conquer all with low cost EVs.
>>
>>28617423
All companies that invested in EV want governments to force people to buy EVs, for obvious reasons. Additionally, VW and other European carmakers also want protectionist policies to shut down Chinese competition because they want consumers to be forced to buy from them and not the Chinese.
>>
>>28617523
But you just said Volvo only shilled for EV due to their China ties. The VW example shows a company not owned by the chinks also advocating EV-only future. I believe HMG also said they want the ban to stay. Once BMW's Neue Klasse outsells Model Y, they too will advocate for a ban. Only Mercedes and some other old school class brands will remain bitching. Mercedes is trash anyways. Got double penetrated by BMW and VW at EVs.
>>
If EVs are as great as shilled, a ban won't be necessary. People will just quit buying ICEs.
Anyone pushing for ICE bans fears their strategic EV investments won't stand up to the competition by their own merit.
>>
>>28617552
Ah yes the organic industry argument

Because nothing is as free of subsidies and government loans as the petrol and automobile industries
