is it worth getting a cold intake installed on my 24 sport civic?
>>
Should be able to order the winter wheels I've been looking at next week, 17x7.5" +45 Sparco Terra SEs in gloss white. Thinking about Falken Ziex ZE950s in 225/50R17, although Continental DWS06+ are an option
>>
>>28614545
Asymmetrical ZIEX tires are so based if you're not in such extreme snowy conditions where you need studded tires, I have the ZE960 on my CM and I was zooming around in light snow when everybody was driving like pussies and getting stuck.
>>
>>28614548
I live in the DPRNJ, so snow isn't that much of a deal, but ice can get pretty bad if the roads haven't been salted. Kinda wary about the DWS06+s since the last time I had a set they kept wearing unevenly and tearing sidewalls
>>

>DWS06+s since the last time I had a set they kept wearing unevenly and tearing sidewalls
If you're looking for a durable tire, ZIEX is definitely the one, my rear tires are getting low now, but they were purchased Sept 2022 and I'm still driving on them, the tread is even worn down evenly and I've beat the shit out of them.

>>28614508
Yeah I might have to go to 18s on this one too like I did with the FK8. The 255/40R18s I had on it were the perfect balance. At the minimum I'm gonna buy an extra oem wheel and slap the non gouged tire they took off the other front wheel on it, and have a ready to go full size spare. It still had 6/32nds on it even with 15k miles on them. Based PS4S
>>
>>28614570
40 sidewall is probably the best for something that can actually get a summer tire, I love my 65 sidewalls, it's like having a damn pickup truck the way it drives over small curbs but you're stuck having A/S tires, but that's okay.
>>

>>28614577
I forgot they don't put the 1.5t in the sport anymore. Yeah not gonna be worth doing it.
>>
>>28614580
Yeah 10th gen had the 175HP 1.5T, but now the sport is a 2.0L, I think it's such a cool car for the 27 grand they want for it, got 18 inch rims on there to put summer tires on, I'd start a lot of trouble in my local canyons with a car like that.

Good tires, good set of brake pads, taking care of any maintenance that's needed like engine air filter, clean oil in the engine-trans, a Civic in good shape with suspension that's not worn out or leaking will be the best Civic that goes the fastest
>>
>>28615819
Honda is just fine, what is your beef? CRV and Civic Hybrid are selling BIGLY. They still have over 40% of the global motorcycle market. Yeah, I wish they'd make a car with some balls too. But the Civic Type R is pretty great if you don't mind spending that kind of money on a performance compact.
>>
>>28615862
Civic sales are trending downwards. It's just too big for most places, might as well get a crossover instead.
>>
>>28615867
It's trending downwards likely because the country is in a recession and people can't afford to buy shit, but the 10th and 11th gen Civics are beautifully sized cars, civics were never really large enough to be used as a family vehicle until 2016, I'm almost concerned over the future of the Accord because as fuckhuge and lovely as it is, it's more money than a Civic, but it's not an Acura product, and the Civic is just so damn nice for what it is.

Posting this in case anyone ever looks through the archives of /hg/ as I did for a fix for gd3 honda fit eps or torque sensor issues.
If you have the issue where torque sensor relearns fail, or where your car turns itself all the way to one side, it’s due to a missing or corroded ground clip on your steering rack. You can check if this is your problem by reading the data on your hand scanner and seeing if even while the car is off, you get a constant negative reading from your torque sensor.
I first had this problem, then replaced my rack with a used rack. The problem persisted so i got a remanufactured unit.
There is a green wire attached to the rack and pinion which is clipped to your Fit (sometimes to the subframe) using a metal fastener. This actually acts as a ground. Without it, your torque sensor may not work properly, instead having the constant reading.
You may not need to replace your whole torque sensor if the traditional means for resetting the steering do not work. Check if you’ve lost this ground, and you may be able to jerry-rig a ground that will work, restoring your values and fixing your EPS.
Also of note is that in my case, there WAS NO EPS warning lamp.

Getting an oil change, transfer case service, differential service and alignment today. My car is just under 110,000miles
>>
>>28617528
That's based as shit Anon, Hondas typically need attention at around 110,000 miles, especially if it's running on the original radiator coolant fill from factory, or the original spark plugs from factory it may need to be done as part of the 110K "tune up".
>>
>>28617551
I do preventative maintenance and it runs just fine. But I'm driving it to Georgia in 2 weeks to see my dad (~1000miles). What should I get done next? I got new spark plugs last year along with a timing belt
>>
>>28617591
That's super dope you got plugs done Anon, If you car has tread on it's tires, and the brake pads are meaty, you're probably mint to drive it across country no problem.
>>
>>28617601
Tires are from 2024 Feb and fine, I don't drive as much since I got a remote job in March. And they're continentals. Brakes got done earlier this year (rear) and last year (front). And I buy the powerstop drilled/slotted brakes. Also did Tranny fluid last year too. I think it's just oil changes and eventually new tires for a while.
>>
>>28617632
>It's the based J35 crosstour
Ah shit Anon, I trust that thing to the moon and back, once these things get over 100,000 miles and have some years of aging, they're pretty much turnkey for a very long time when you give them their bigger maintenence items fluids filters brakes and such, especially that timing belt, the car is 10 years old and has 100,000+ miles so you're perfectly on the money when it came time to do that job.

Kinda a newfag to cars. I've done general maintenance like oil and other fluid changes to my car. Helped replace the stereo on some cars and other minor fixes. Been mulling over getting another car to use for longer drives and a partial project car. I currently drive a Nissan Altima, I know, and it's my only car. Looking around I found a 2017 Civic for 8500 and the owner says it was only in a minor accident. It only has 76k miles and that just seems too good to be true. Should I go for an older Honda, look deeper into this or is it just plain retarded to even look for a project car with little experience.

Guys I'm scared...
I recently 5 speed swapped my 7th gen Civic and it was driving and running ok-ish, although I did notice that there was some slugishness and the car would jitter at lower speeds...
Turns out, the auto parts store sold me an automatic driver side CV axle (NEVER TRUST A WOMAN) and my foolish ass thought that maybe it was normal for the cv axle to stop idk like 1/2 an inch outside of the differential
ffwd to a couple months later, and I keep getting this noise coming from whenever I let go of clutch or blip the gas pedal. Squealing and a clunking sound. I shrugged it off because I thought maybe a mount was worn but deep in the back of my shallow little mind I thought perhaps it could be the cv axle. Well, the noise started getting worse and worse, until it was painful to drive because whenever I was at full lock and taking off it would sound BAD
So I took off the axle and put it into the old 4 speed box; it goes in, but not all the way. Took off the circlip, it goes in ALL THE WAY
sure enough, running the numbers and looking at some photos, (based RockAuto had some dimensions) I determined that it was indeed an auto cv axle :(
Then I decided to look inside the tranny and I saw that the ends of the splines on the axle had cut into or marred the surface of the diff pinion shaft. I very much HOPE that all is going to be fixed and fine after I swap the axle, but still I'm so scared that my tranny is effed beyond saving...........

update: tranny is SAVED
Got the manual axle, installed it, it now goes all the way in, right up against the seal on the tranny. No leaks now, but it was still creaking, so I got under the car and tightened the mounts and subframe bolts. Turns out the front tranny mount on the EM2 has a nut on one side with a tab so it doesnt spin, when i was tightening mine down the first time, i didnt realize the tab had broke off, so I decided to do it later and forgot about it. No creaks, squeaks or squeals now and i'm happy.

I'm debating if I should move up to colder spark plugs based on my driving. I'm running a EDM EK Civic with a stock D15Z6, and I noticed the engine started pinging noticeably since I started driving more on highways, I think it might be spark plugs too hot for it. Current ones are the NGK ZFR5J-11's recommended by Honda, but on that they also say to move up to the colder ZFR6J's in warmer climates or if the car does a lot of highway driving.
I live in a southern Europe area that is quite warm, summers can get up to 40C/105F and even the absolute lowest in winter never drops below 0C/30F, I usually drive around 70 Km/45 miles daily, half of that on highways, and pic related is how the current spark plugs look, all 4 look about the same, it seems to me they might be running a bit hot. You guys think the 6J's would foul too much based on this?

Doesn't Honda recommend iridium plugs as oem for their daily driver econoboxes? I use iridium on K series and they lost so long you can go well beyond the 110,000 miles Honda says to do plugs at, (should still do them at 110K so you don't misfire and fuck the car up)

I guarantee you that at least for EK's they don't. I got this car off an old guy that only went to church on Sundays (real find this one, '97 EK3 with real 142k Km, or around 88k miles), who still had the original manual for it, and it lists copper plugs as the recommended. Pic related.

If that's the case and it pings when the engine is heatsoaked, it is possible the knock sensor is getting old and pinging is happening, it is very possible that the sensor can still have voltage where it wouldn't throw a check engine light but the engine is still getting pings because the knock sensor has so much age and miles to it.
>>
>>28629552
D15's don't have a knock sensor, only D16's have it.
>>
>>28629566
Holy fuck those are simple motors, if everything's in good shape, just put in the best fuel grade you can in there to minimize the pings and just drive it, Hondas are pretty resilient to pinging, and the compression radio is pretty low on the D15Z cars, it's not like you're running a 11.5:1 compression ratio Honda with shit fuel that demands premium and running that without a knock sensor, that would actually be pretty sketchy, but a SOHC economy engine that likes to lean burn should do okay with that low compression radio even without a knock sensor.
>>
>>28629577
>just put in the best fuel grade you can in there to minimize the pings
Funny thing is I already tried it, it still pings regardless with both the 95 and 98 fuel grades that we have here (I think the US grade equivalents are 91 and 93).
I've been testing quite a few things trying to chase a oil burning problem that appeared when I started driving on highways (1 litre/quarter of oil every 1500Km/1000 miles), though I have sludge buildup in the oil pan as a likely suspect. I had to clean the PCV valve after I found it clogged to hell and stuck open, which I know is a common cause of oil burning, and in only 2 weeks it clogged again. Also I know for a fact that in the 4 years before I bought it, it only drove 2000Km total, so the oil sludge theory seems more likely. Already have oil and filter in hand for a change tomorrow, gonna try a few quick oil changes to try and clean it up. In any case, I'm still convinced I should at least give the colder plugs a shot, since I think I do fit both scenarios where Honda recommends them.
>>
Carbon buildup. It bumps up your compression ratio causing pinging.

That's my assumption too, thing might need an italian tuneup if an old bastard has been driving it to the street corner and back since 1997

Thankfully there's no EGR nonsense to deal with like the later D's
>>
>>28629815
That's based, EGR was such a nightmare on Acura C series V6s of the same era, the thing would clog up, overheat the cylinder head and the head gasket would get blown, luckily Honda learned in K series and J series, but realizing how uncomplicated a D15 Civic is makes me appreciate my grandfather's 1995 LX sedan.
>>
>>28629831
D13-16 were good engines. My D17 is known for that stupid EGR passage plate attached to the PLASTIC intake manifold. The thing clogs up and in combination with the PCV valve make the oil consumption bad. At one point I had to add almost half a liter every other day...
>>
>>28629837
>PLASTIC intake manifold
That shit is so criminal, shame on Honda for going to plastic K24 manifold on the 2008 Accord, that was a great car but it's obvious cost cutting, and the PCV goes out on K24 too and makes it consume stupid amounts of oil even though the engine is fine.
>>
>>28629815

Genuinely a frustrating install but worth it for sure. Lots of lifting and lowering the engine. I'm aiming for Bilstein struts and Eibach Pro Kit springs. Originally I was gonna go for BC Racing coils but you really don't need all that adjustment for a street car. It's overkill and servicing would be annoying.

I also found a Hybrid shifter nearby for only $200, less than half the price new. It was sitting in an EG hatch forever so the color faded but that doesn't matter because the boot covers the whole thing. Very crispy shifts now.

Yessir. I still got time to decide but it seems like the best route. For now though I'm waiting on some Megan Racing toe arms for the rear. Multi link rear suspension certainly isn't cheap to modify. Over $500 just to get things straight when lowered.

In other news, my homie got his UA running again. He found another chassis with less than half the miles (he's also in the 250k+ gang) for $800 with extreme under carriage damage. Drove it home and dropped both the engine and trans in his much cleaner chassis and he's finally driving again. His GF's auto K24 next to it.

So I might need to look at a better body shop then. Timeline of events

>Said to take it by a body shop because it's a big fix
>Uh ok
>Do so, they give me a big stink about doing it outside of insurance (I didn't really want the crack fixed didn't bother me) and all this paint maxing shit

So yeah it's all kinda ass. I guess I just need to take it by another body shop or I can hit my usual shop up once more. Body work ain't something I've got much tact with.

A good body shop should be able to cinch that up unless the bumper cover is so damn broken that it's never gonna be clipped in right and would need to be replaced and a primed bumper cover purchased cheaply online and then painted, but even still no shop should be giving you guff about just wanting the bumper cover painted if it came to replacing that, I crashed the bumper myself and brought the primered bumper cover to them and they painted only the bumper cover and they installed it, didn't even sell me on blending joining panels and the car still turned out okay.

It manages to be worse overall than every other R barring the FN2 with its twist beam rear AND EVEN THEN IT STILL MOGS THE EP3. FD2 uses Macpherson front/multilink rear and utterly mogs the it handling-wise. Front and rear geometry on the EP3 are trash, sorry to break it to you.

>Prebuilt shock strut coil spring assemblies front and rear
>upper control arms that come with with new bushings and ball joint if you car has double wishbone front

>two outer tie rods
That's pretty much about it for refreshing the suspension of a Honda, the rear end is pretty good about not needing stuff unless you have rear double wishbone from the 90s and the upper control arm is clanking, but stuff like having good tie rods and ball joints that aren't loose are most important to not being killed, and having good struts makes it ride nice.
>>
>>28641638
New struts, control arms and gg. Didn't bother trying to press bushings or getting with poly, I did that on my last civic and it was neither fun nor worth the effort vs just buying new arms.

>2x rear lower control arms - contains front and rear arms (i assume rear lower front and rear lower rear?)
>2x rear upper forward control arms- complete arms w/ ball joints
>front left outer tie rod end
>front right outer tie rod end
this is definitely overkill as my cart is at $950 so far and i really just need to replace the front struts + rear lower control arms.
unfortunately i'm autistic about doing everything evenly. i should probably look at cheaper brands than KYB and Moog at least.

D17A2 vs D16Y8? Me personally, D17 for torque, but I kinda wish it had that Y8 style 'tec.
>>
>>28642348
I do like the coil packs on the D17, the thing wasn't a K series, but for a cheap car in 2001 the D17 was better than an EG Civic.
>>
>>28642351
I honestly think the D17 could have been a decent performer if people actually took an interest in them. I think it was the ECU that prevented people from messing with them, but also probably the lack of a "true" vtec version. Those people don't understand that it technically made it better in the low end than the performance D16s.
>>
>>28642370
Yeah it's another reason the 7th gen Civics just kinda sucked, you couldn't get a "hot D series" that cracked vtec, even the Si version had basically a miniature CM Accord engine that didn't rev, which is a shame because I like the way the EM2 looks as a coupe.

K24A2 is definitely the swap for K series, people go nuts over RPM, but what you lose in redline (K24A2 still revs to 7200 lmao) you massively gain in low end torque, that's why even shitty ass CM Accords are king of the short shifting races compared to the high revving engines, it just accelerates stupid hard at low rpm.

FL5 Type R is damn good in TXR, although 500+hp is enough to get the traction control to kick on in 1st gear

close call. glad you didn't fuck your tranny over
>but my car is so jerky under 2k rpm
sure it's not just because it's manual? could also be the clutch springs
>>
My '92 Accord needs its timing belt replaced, but although I have the tools and parts I need I didn't want the first time I ever replace one to be on my daily with an interference engine. I got a quote from a mechanic who is a friend of a friend and was told it would be $770 though, so it looks like I'm going to be doing it myself after all next weekend.

If I fuck anything up I'll be sure and let you know.

hello HORAN.
low miles TSX mills are running dry pretty quick. wish people would put more R&D into the very plentiful K24Z3. It's basically the same as the A2 minus the "real vtec" and conventional exhaust header.

4cyl auto CMs are good to about 40mph, when it shifts into 2nd its all ogre. Legitimately faster than a TL to 40. One of the best commuter cars ever made.
Beware of engine lugging. High power at low RPMs = massive cylinder wear over time.

>>28642394
06-12 Si (K20Z3) motors are basically identical to the A2, pretty sure the mounts line up. Sensors are different though, so the lazy niggers don't touch it.

>but my car is so jerky under 2k rpm
Certified manual shitbox experience, could also be the diff wear the axle incident put on it. In any case, get into 2nd as soon as you can.
If you can find "harmonic dampers" for your axles, install those. They help I think.

Im just surprised the automatic axle went in at all, I thought those had different splines to manual across all gens. Useful info to make frank axles for swaps.

Hell yeah Anon, that's the good stuff

>Beware of engine lugging. High power at low RPM
It's so annoying how the CM just wants to lug in the highest gear possible at all times and make that unhappy bwaaah induction noise, but I kick the pedal downshift and get those rpms up so that it isn't unhappy.

It seems every clapped out CM in the junkyard with the valve cover off has beautiful lobes and timing chain even at the end of the car's life, does K series even wear out? Jesus, CM owners dont even take care of their shit usually and it still stays running.

Super sexy when companies blue the metal for exhaust tips, but I've never seen that on an intake, it's nice.
>>
>>28646435
It's titanium, so might as well. Gotta try and reduce the heatsoak from the inlet going over the turbo somehow.

Thats the next step. Waiting until I decide on a downpipe so I can lava wrap or coat the dp at the same time

imo K24 would be a better deal, you pay a little less than the "real vtec" K20s, and you get a little more hp and torque.

my new control arms and struts are coming in tomorrow and I just realized I probably should've bought some new alignment bolts to go with them.can I get any alignment bolt from AutoZone or is that something where I should go OEM or a high quality aftermarket brand?

Hell yeah, it's a Canadian CM commercial, really funny because the CM was a racecar for dads who wanted a racecar, but also not really.

Old Honda marketing was based, it's no wonder the fucking Element is a cult classic despite being a shitty 4 speed auto with a CM engine in it

>>
>>28649917
Did they never make a manual element? What a waste!
>>
>>28650000
Manual Element existed, but as a K series vdehicle the thing so so inefficient compared to a CR-V or a CM Accord, and a Honda Oddessey would technically do the job better, but regardless people love their Elements.

What is Honda's problem? The CM may not come from the 80s and 90s, but it's a car that people like.

It's probably because it's ugly.
>>
>>28650316
Well the first MDX is ugly, but that hasn't stopped Honda from showing it off in the heritage collection because the MDX was such a big deal, Honda should be boasting the first car to feature a K24 and side airbags, and many other good things that are commonplace in a Honda now, before the CM you could buy a base DX with no ABS so you go sliding to your death, CM, standard.
