My current car keeps doing this thing where it idles fine at first after I disconnect the battery for a bit, and then drifts towards this rough idle where it wants to stall out.I swapped out the current MAF sensor for an OEM one and it made it worse. I also disconnected as much of the vacuum accesories as I could and I still have an issue. Only remaining bit is the brake booster which I hope isn't leaking. My diff is also fucked, probably. Might need a rebuild. I'm honestly considering just setting aside 2k so I can buy a southern vic of the same year.
This is also my first car so it's sad to see it come to this point. If I can't keep it for spare parts I'll strip what I think I might need. Trans is still decently new so it's definitely getting set aside.
>>28614550happened to me after i disconnected my battery to change my spark plugs. try clearing the codes to see if that helps. it was the mass air flow sensor fucking things up in my case.
>>28614550Have you checked the Iidle air control valve? All the Ford's I've had with bad idle quality were caused by bad IAC
>>28614600I changed the IAC, the spark plugs, the spark plug wires, the distributor rotor, the distributor cap, the alternator, and it turned out that the reason my panther shakes slightly appears to simply just be the engine fan being ever so slightly unbalanced, because during the brief period of time where I was trying to make an electric fan work it wasn't doing it and then it came back when I put the clutch fan back. However, it hasn't done that thing where I drive on the highway for a while and then park the car and then the engine shuts itself off, so I suppose something I did was at least worth it.
clean the MAF and let it learn the idle after the battery is disconnected
>>28614563I haven't had the issue until now and I've been wrenching on it for a few years. Disconnecting the battery temporarily makes it better but it comes back the next time I start the car.Today I did remember something about a code once. I checked some old scan logs, and U1026 shows up, showing missing engine RPM. I'm gonna try installing a new crankshaft position sensor and hope maybe that's it. I just hope it isn't like my ABS and instead comes out easy.>>28614600Coincidentally I actually replaced it with a reman because the old one got stuck and I'd idle at 2500 rpm (cleaning with carb cleaner did not help). Car has run well on the new IAC for a few months now.>>286146218I can try it, but this is an OEM new part. What I have noticed however is that one resistor is different inside than on the old one. I'm curious if that's of significance but haven't dug deep enough to test that theory yet.
>>28614718Oh, I have already tried relearning the idle several times now, it's not been helping. Driving right away delays the issue returning and is how I've been limping along.
How's the crown vic market these days? I heard it died because all the good ones were already bought up and the only ones on sale are overpriced and super beat up. It's safe to say most agencies don't use it anymore right?
Sure the battery/alternator is fine? Does it start right up after stalling?
>>28616070Haven't had it actually stall yet but it's definitely wanted to.Car starts up right away.>>28616066It depends, desu. Plenty of cars that could be made good, burt if you want like-new you're gonna be playing dealership prices.
Clean throttle body.
>>28617998I'll check it, but it should still be clean. I'll even post pics
