thinking of buying a suzuki sv650. is it a good choice? i want an old fashioned reliable motorcycle with zero frills, and they've lowered the price to 8000$
>>
soulless engine
buy a screamer instead
>>
I think there are better choices since middle weights is where the money is now.
Like for example the cbr650r or MT-07
If you just want a basic bike there are a lot choices for a lot less than 8k
>>
>>28615479
both of those are considerably more expensive where i live, otherwise i'd go for the honda
>>

I can't get over how ugly that swing arm is.
>I want an old fashioned reliable motorcycle
All Japanese bikes are reliable, what's your reservation on modern stuff?
>>
>>28615929
i don't want fancy transmissions, traction control and electronic this and that
>>
>>28615934
>Fancy transmissions
Are you talking about the automatics? Not many models have that. Outside of that shit all motorcycles use the same basic constant mesh transmission
>Traction control, electronics and such
Eh, just turn them off or forget about them. I think 90% of the time people swear up and down they don't want those things but wouldn't actually care if they didn't know they had them.

They're great bikes. Literally unkillable if you don't wheelie. If you want something with a little more power, the honda hornet 600 and 919 are great naked bikes too. I just wouldn't buy an sv650 brand new. They've been produced since the late 90s, and you can find them for a dime a dozen. the suzuki bandit is also a decent bike, though its harder to find the naked variants.

So you don't want to go fast lmao?
A pajeet bike sounds unironically more your speed.
just get a meteor desu

Just get a used gladius and spend the rest on gear and insurance, maybe pick up a pair of nice tires too. It's essentially the same bike and since it looked hideous most of them should be in pretty mint condish.

Word on the street is the hornet 750 is the new hotness. Don't get me wrong, but sv650 is every bit as good as it's ever been. But the middleweight 2 cylinder class has seen a lot of competition over the past 10 years and Suzuki doesn't like to update without good reason.

>i want an old fashioned reliable motorcycle with zero frills
so buy an old, reliable bike instead of a brand new one?

XSR700.

Seconding air/oil cooled bandit 600 as an alternate option to sv650 if you decide to go for used and there are solid ones in your area, they're old school, sound great with revs and don't even have a need for separate coolant (newer ones past 2004 do have different liquid-cooled engines). Power-wise they don't match up with other inline 4s that are supersports so you could say they are somewhat more tame. Also, riding position is more upright on a bandit than it is on a sv650 so they are comfier- I think this point should matter the most for picking the thing that you'll enjoy more.

Two strong drawbacks with the old ones though depending on how you look at it- no ABS and no EFI. No idea about the new models but maybe someone can chime in. Either way if we get back to sv650, it's awesome and has more soul than something like mt07 p-twins, so IMO it should still be your first pick overall unless you find out that something else hits the spot in a special way.

The Gladius is worse than the SV650 though
>>
>>28616296
Not in a meaningful way, really. And certainly not 3-4k price difference worse.
>>
It's a solid bike anon.
>>
>>28616521
wait what? You'll have to forgive me, I haven't shopped for SV650s since like 2012, what are SV650s and Gladius worth respectively now? This is gonna be hilarious to me I'm guessing.
>>
>>28615478
If you think a 90° vtwin is soulless compared to a fucking flat plane inline 4 you've legitimately been huffing DEF fluid
>>
>>28615479
Cbr650r is obsolete. The 750 hornet makes more power and torque and is also lighter. The MT07 is old and sucks. The 750 hornet is definitely the best
>>
>>28616892
OP said it's 8k for new sv, more likely somewhere around 9k out the door, old new stock is somewhere around 7, used sv is around 5-5.5 and gladius shouldn't cost you above 3.5. So it's ~5k diff between new SV and gladius and ~2k if we compare between used ones. Mint condish pre-gladius models would set you back 3-4k too, so no reason to pick them up over the gladius, considering it has better suspension and better fueling.
