The app is the new fob. It's the type of feature where you don't think it's special until you get a car with it. You're used to doing things the old way and it's just routine, then you try the new way and you realize how much the old way sucks. My favorite part is being able to set the climate. Nothing beats climbing into a nice cool car when it's 100° outside. And the remote access is handy occasionally too. When I got my windows tinted, instead of having to go drop the car off and either sit around waiting or getting a ride back and forth, I just went to work. He drove to my car, called me, I unlocked it, started it up, he drove it back and forth, and I clocked out with freshly tinted windows and never even had to go to his garage. And i know he didn't do anything sketchy because I can monitor the cars gps and see exactly where he went. if someone needs to get something out of or put something in your car, you can just pop the trunk from anywhere.
wish there was a cheap way to gps track my car without a faggot subscription service so if it ever gets towed or stolen i can shoot up their place

>>28617648Fuck no. I don't even let a computer control my ignition.
>>28623016At least for the Ford app I can double check the locks are locked, remote start, check fuel (planning my day if I need to get gas), check tire pressures, see exactly where the vehicle is located (great if you park and have to walk a mile somewhere else) check oil levels and service intervals, see any OEM recalls, schedule service at the dealership, see the service history, find local dealers if I go on a road trip and need a repair or help with the truck, readily have my license plate and VIN number. And yeah, most of that shit is relatively silly neurotic details 98% of people barely care about. You ever run out of the restaurant to get a thing you left in the center console and run back in wondering if you locked the doors? Ever sit there knowing you have to drive 150 miles to the jobsite tomorrow wondering if you have enough gas for the trip? Ever forget where you parked after a day in a different town parked in that one lot? Ever think about how you usually do oil changes in October wondering when the last time you changed it? The app answers all those questions. Again, silly neurotic stuff other than remote locking. They're free apps so who cares.

>>28623957You're at a disadvantage
>>28624128>You're at a disadvantageTo what?
Is there not an open source vehicle software standard, and if there were, would anyone other than chinese manufacturers use it?
>>28624141Read the fine print you agreed to. You might be thinking that you exchange your data (that isn't worthless, companies pay a lot to access it in bulk) for the convenience of this "free" app. But you don't have a say about the terms of this exchange, nor you can't opt out of your data being given to fuck knows who fuck knows when for fuck knows what purpose.
>>28624355>nor you can't opt out of your data being given to fuck knows who fuck knows when for fuck knows what purpose. What data is that, and why is it important to me as the individual consumer. I think I understand why multiple companies will pay for that data in bulk batches, but I'm still confused why its valuable to me and why I should protect it. I've asked this question on /ck/ for the food apps. Nobody can seem to answer this simple question after pointing out its valuable to someone and I shouldn't just give it away. Tell me why. I understand what you said, but tell me the -why- please. If I could package my own data and sell it to a firm to later resell, how much do you think I could get as an individual? Do you think it'd amount to a penny?
>>28624365nta but i view it like thatwould you like it if there was a person behind you at all times constantly monitoring what you are doing and writing it down.if you would have issues with that then you should be concerned with the data collection because is basically that except you dont see the personyeah also there might be different people monitoring you at different situations(driving the car vs sitting at the pc) but at the end of the day they do come together to exchange the info
>>28617648No.>>28617656This.
>>28617663I've been saying the robots vacuums were mapping your house for years. Got called crazy. Now it's a fucking selling point.
>>28624534Exactly my car doesn't monitor everything I do. It only knows where I live and where I work. You know who else knows that? Literally every single person with access to any government or financial database. Maybe it knows how I drive and maybe the insurance companies pay for that data to charge more but I doubt it. Even if they did, oh well.
>>28624365Stop convincing yourself it's okay to be caught in the Jews trap.
>>28624579The number of people with government records access is but a drop of piss in the ocean of piss that is data brokering.
>>28624365Big AI models munching on data optimize for companies to give least and charge most. Doesnt matter since China is gonna eat them for brekky soon enough, its already under way.You have to understand that companies want to charge most for least and grow their business. By access to your data they know how you think, how to advertise to you or population they aim, what you search for, how to win you over basically, but also undermine you.You have to understand that best companies will overdeliver and undercharge. And new BMW aint one of those companies. Best cars in the world have already been built and sold. Big companies pay to know what you eat and smartwatch companies sell their data to pharma. Your data can be identified (unique identifier) and a company can have access to data about your life more than you know - what you eat, body parameters, how you sleep, what you drive, who you date, where you live and optimize it all under your nose you never will know that you live life according to some corpo blueprint invented to milk you for money and keep you always "just another car" away from Bliss. You have to understand what Im saying here truly. Eugenics is already happening but its so stealthy and soft - you dont even know. Best bet is to give least data you can and be vigilant about what you let show online.Owning your mind is first step - dont mindlessly consume "content".
>>28618865My transmission has a dipstick but it's buried under the airbox and a couple wiring harnesses.
>>28624365Do you like being monitored and judged by fuck knows who according to fuck knows what rules? Because it's already being done with your money: credit score, insurances or even prices and "special offers" you get. Have you encountered private sale posts with no price listed, so everyone has to DM the seller to get the price? Do you fucking like it? Do you like paying more simply because someone (correctly) decided you can be milked in some specific circumstances they are aware of thanks to the data they collected and analyzed? That's only one aspect of this shit, the stuff every normalfag is aware of, not some borderline schizo scenarios, although it basically is the social credit system but not yet full dystopian. Perfectly legal, by the way. Some other common scenarios include "data breaches" (happens pretty regularly) some malicious actors can use to do illegal stuff easier, or law enforcement using collected data against you as evidence because it's more convenient than chasing the actual criminal and the machines don't lie (if they have the required certifications), nor they can testify.
>>28624587That wasn't the point but thanks for the reply
>>28624631One of mine has a really short dipstick with access from under the car and a bolt fixing it in place. Still better than nothing, I guess. Thanks Aisin.
ALL GOOD MAH NIGGA
>>28624365And to answer the other questions,>What data is thatEverything both your car and the app in your phone have access to.>If I could package my own data and sell it to a firm to later resell, how much do you think I could get as an individual? Do you think it'd amount to a penny?Haven't I already told you it's not going to be on your terms and this is one of the reasons you are at a disadvantage?
>>28624600>They market to you more specificallyOkay, I don't watch ads anyway so what do I care?>they'll know more about you!Okay, they'll know my 2023 Ford Maverick is driven short distances sometimes to empty fields and after about 15 years it'll have about 100k miles on it. What are they going to do with this information? Value engineer another shitty part to break at 43,000 miles? Oh they already do that before an app was invented? Alright. >Big companies pay to know what you eat and smartwatch companies sell their data to pharma.Cool, I'm not on pharma drugs so what do I care? Oh they sell them at 4000% markup in the US anyway? Neat. I hear what you're saying and don't dispute those sales of information happens, again, why should I care about what they do with that information?
>>28624667>Do you like being monitored and judged by fuck knows who according to fuck knows what rules?Kinda like society already does, anons on 4chan, and anything else including insurance underwriters, credit score agencies, family, your pastor, etc. Again, I'm not disputing what is being done is slimy and shouldn't be legal, but I'm not seeing any detriment to letting them sell my app data. Every time I ask its replies like the above: >jews >uhhh, its just slimy okay!and >uh they could do something really bad with it like predict where you'll want to eat lunch!Okay, so their marketing teams spend more money on ads I don't watch driving up the price of goods and services. What else is new?
>>28624690>Haven't I already told you it's not going to be on your terms and this is one of the reasons you are at a disadvantage?Yes, but you flat out aren't explaining how I am at a disadvantage other than inability to even sell my own data, nor am I being disadvantaged. What upper hand do they have in everything if I am not harmed, manipulated, or exploited?
>>28624679>>28617648What does it say when someone bumped into it?Switching from ALL GOOD to SHITS FUCKED M8 with a big frown plastered over the car pic?
>>28624905Looks like you missed (or chose to ignore) the most part of my post because you didn't find "da joos" you were expecting.>Okay, so their marketing teams spend more money on ads I don't watch driving up the price of goods and services.No. It's more like you're feeling really thirsty but all beverages in the shop you just entered are suddenly twice the price. Or someone breaks into your house conveniently when you're not there. Or in a multiple-vehicle collision you are suddenly at fault because the only car that snitched on its owner is yours, because for everyone else's they were unable to pull the logs and had to resort to the old-fashioned forensic ways with certain degree of uncertainty.>>28624912>What upper hand do they have in everything if I am not harmed, manipulated, or exploited? But you are.
>>28624958>No. It's more like you're feeling really thirsty but all beverages in the shop you just entered are suddenly twice the price. Are you insane? Do you think theres really computers out there tracking something like 100million cell phones predicting when I get thirsty and jacks up EVERY price in the store just because I walked in? How does that spyware algorithm translate into me and some miserly person unwilling to pay more than $1 for that same drink? >Or someone breaks into your house conveniently when you're not there. That was a thing before cell phones existed. That was a thing before landlines existed. That was a thing before electricity was common. Do you think some super hacker is finding my data to break into my house and steal my... uhhh, cheetohs or something?>Or in a multiple-vehicle collision you are suddenly at fault because the only car that snitched on its owner is yoursYou don't understand collision reports or insurance claims adjusting, do you? How about the "black box" thats been installed in EVERY new car since about 1998 that records vehicle telemetry and other data that 999 times out of 1000 is simply turned over to the police for crash investigation and to the NHTSA?You're coming up with all of these fantasy scenarios that have no basis in reality or are already happening before cell phones and apps were common. This has been my biggest issue; opponents of apps like these are always coming up with some strange fantasy where an entity is writing some hyper specific detailed ledger of your entire life. You're not that important. I am not that important. You still haven't explained anything, only given fairy tales. Remember, don't eat any apples on Halloween, someone may have put a razor blade inside of it.
>>28624672Your point was being so retarded you doubted something that actually happens. And has been happening for a decade at least. You fucking retards just keep asking why each tiny step is such a big deal until we actually live in a dystopian cyber hell... Only we do and you keep asking why it's such a big deal.
>>28624971>bad faith argumentSorry, spent too much time on you alredy. Here's your (you)
>>28625714Alright, I'll continue using apps getting free shit and you keep wearing your tinfoil hat thinking up fairy tales.
>>28625845And you'll continue to seek reassurance from "arguing" with other people on the web because deep down something is disturbing you and you can't really brush it aside.
>>28627551for how rabid the "thats really bad and you shouldn't do it" people, you unfortunately can't seem to explain why. Its somewhere along the level of religious doctrine where you just know everyone doing the opposite is wrong and stupid but you have no basis for explaining why. Guess I'll be eating shell fish still too.
>>28627557It's because he doesn't even believe in his own argument. He's just addicted to being mad and will argue with anyone about anything. You can always tell because people with a real interest or concern in the topic will stick to the point and counter any opposing points. People like him just make very vague statements and riddled with fallacies and eventually stop arguing about the thing itself and focus on just arguing.
