I guess I’m too dumb for circuit racing.
When watching other drivers it looks like they’re on rails. Meanwhile my dumb ass is all over the place

Okay but capturing it that way doesn't do anybody any good even if they have triple monitors because the resolution is too small

4chin has a resolution limit I think, 7860x1440 would probably be too big. this is how my middle screen usually looks

Do the license tests in gran Turismo 4, it teaches you how to drive on a race track

gt4 is understeer city though and the cars don't feel right at all

what i did when I was new is hotlaps around the burgerking in AC until I understood car dynamics properly. then once I had the basics down, I studied proper racing techniques like lines and hitting apexes. GT might be able to teach you those, but the way the cars handle is just ass. the physics didn't become good until the enthusia guys came in for GT5P
>>
>>28620349
>gt4 is understeer city
Is it even possible to oversteer and spin around a RWD car without assists in GT4? I honestly can't remember it ever happening, but its been a long time. These games are challenging enough for what they are (especially GT3), but until racing wheels became popular and accessible, the physics were built with gamepads in mind, so realistic oversteer was off the table. It would simply be too frustrating and finnicky to deal with on a pad.

I understand the fundamentals but I’m just too retarded to execute it. these people brake and turn so smoothly into the corners it looks like ai. zero error, like on rails

oh and another thing I have noticed: I’m slightly faster when driving „casually“ with right foot braking for some reason. Left foot braking makes me enter tryhard mode and I feel like I’m overdriving the car or something idk

Reminder to get your car submitted for the Mille Miglia Challenge. Please post a link on the doc with exclusively the car you will be using with only the livery included you intend to run so I don't fuck up the server settings. If you are using a Kunos car, go and specify what livery you want on the doc now. Even if the car has been used in an /ovg/ series before. If you're extra nice and wanna make damn sure I don't fuck it up, just make a variant of the car called "_username" (no capital letters you sick fuck) and submit that. Track pack (password protected) should be up sometime tomorrow night Euro time, I'm doing finishing touches tomorrow and then everything is set.

I'm fairly picky with arcade games, they need to have really tight controls, a nice challenge and a lot of style to really get me. I've tried Ridge Racer V on PCSX2 for the very first time (never managed to bump into it when I had my PS2 back then) and fell in love. The handling is weird at first but once you understand it, it gets addictive, you really have to be precise, one or two bad mistakes and you must as well reset the stage with a savestate. Shame that there are only seven courses (including the oval), you can't change your car after you select it, and the music is ass. Its basically a PS2 tech demo, being rushed as a launch title back in the day. But man, the gameplay is TIGHT, makes the PS2 burnout games seem floaty and unresponsive in comparison. I've heard that RR type 4 was the best, especially the style, presentation and music. I've tried but the handling is nowhere near as good as RRV, and besides, its locked at 30fps (I don't mind the PS1 graphics at all, in fact it looks pretty good to me). They I thought about trying RR7 on RPCS3, but I can't emulate it properly (I've got a humble ryzen 5 5600), the little that I've played of it, I noticed the gameplay isn't as tight as RRV because I'm sure there is some form of auto-pilot going on, smoothing out your drifts and avoiding contact with the wall at high speeds (its hard to explain but if you played it you know what I'm talking about). And then the series died for no reason. Imagine a RR with the style and music of Type 4, the tight gameplay of V and the stage variety and graphics of 7. It would be the perfect arcade game.

How did they go from this to that musical abomination in RRV?

rrv is a direct sequel to the original arcade game made in a realistic type 4/rageracer style rather than a direct continuation of type 4's gameplay and aesthetic. sort of a rave racer 2.

rr7 is more or less just rr6 with bodykits, and rr6 itself is just ridge racer psp for home consoles. the drifting model is pretty ass but actually makes sense if you've ever played the original rr on psx using a gamepad, which is kind of what it's attempting to emulate. you're on a rail but you still have control over the radius of that rail based on your entry speed and drift angle, it's not quite as easy to master as it looks. rr6 has some cool ass, monstrously fast extra cars and the races against them can get fucking insane. at high speed classes the drifting/boosting model begins to make a little more sense and it's ultimately just namco's version of f-zero.

>>28621049
Interesting, looks like this series went through a lot of changes and experimentation. I would love a remake or spiritual successor to Type 4, with a handling model closer to RRV. I haven't completely given up on RR6-7, I'll try them again once I can properly emulate at a locked 60 fps (this was a PS3 launch title running at a silky smooth 60fps, at 1080p, with sharp visuals, if only more PS3 games followed that script...but it all went downhill from there). I even though about trying Type4 again, but I can't seem to find a 60fps patch for it (very common for PCSX2, not so much for PS1 emulation). It almost makes me sad that I never bumped into it when I was a kid with my PS1, could have gotten into the series way sooner.

>I haven't completely given up on RR6-7
Even though that on-rails auto-pilot really put me off. Some people like playing the RR games on a racing wheel, right? I played RRV on the d-pad (good for micro adjustments and fast left-right inputs), it never felt to me like the handling would benefit from a wheel, or even from an analog stick.

That first track is passable, the rest is awful (and these 3 clips are arguably your top selection from the mediocre OST). Even if we call RRV's soundtrack serviceable it is clearly overshadowed by Type4's soundtrack.
>>
>>28621066
ridge racer was originally a product of namco's industrial automotive simulation products for mazda and is therefore /o/
it is also canon that the og ridge racer car is a miata
