I am moving 1,432 miles across the country in the upcoming month and then in two years I'll be moving again another 1,185 miles. I am considering buying a truck+trailer, however I recently discovered enclosed trailers have shitty payloads. >All the enclosed trailers I'm finding are 3.5/5k axlesI am considering buying a box truck, but I am struggling to find one with a hitch. I would have to buy a pick up truck + trailer or I would be buying a box truck. >I have ~11k of household goods to move>I have 3 vehicles + 3 motorcyclesI plan on loading two motorcycles into my ambulance and driving out, riding one back. I will have to do this multiple times. Do I buy a box truck? I rented a 22' Penske + car hauler for my move two years ago and spent ~5k on rental+fuel to move ~700 miles. Ideally a pickup truck and enclosed trailer would make the most sense as for further use, but it seems a box truck may be my only option.
>>28620726Buy a used crown vic and a receiver and rent a trailer
>>28620726Idk if it would make sense for you but see if you can’t get your hands on an old grain truck. You can get them for very cheap and would probably do the job you want it to.
Recently moved about 800 miles and used PODS for the household and garage stuff. Trailered one car, drove two cars and shipped the third (cost about $1000 for the car hauler, enclosed carrier).I looked at trailers too but just more hassle and I don’t really need a trailer after the move, box truck is interesting and probably easy to sell but I wouldn’t want to get stuck with a shitty one and have problems during the move, but ymmv.
>>28620726What's your budget?? Shits not adding up. A 25' trailer with all your shit is going to be pushing 15k lbs which means you're going to need at least a 3/4 ton. A 3/4 ton gasser is going to get 8mpg best case scenario and a diesel is going to be expensive and likely a nightmare. Do you have an air brake endorsement? That box truck has dual rear axles and actual air brakes. The NOT FOR HIRE sticker doesn't cut it in some states. If you're going the box truck route go to ritchie bros and get a 26' ex rental Freightliner diesel box truck. They usually have a million of them and they're trustworthy and get around 12mpg. iirc they go for around $25k. I really don't know what you're going to do with your vehicles. Seems like it may be cheaper to just have them shipped.
