just bought these, are they any good? my front shocks are fucked
>>28620963no
>>28620967why though?
>>28620971too easy to install
>>28620963>MacPhearson struttheres no point, the shit is a rental
>>28620963>my front shocks are fuckedIt'll get the job done. They won't ride the same as OEM but it'll prevent your shocks from sounding like distant machinegun fire in Afghanistan.
>>28620963I bought the NAPA rebrand of these and they're just okay. The front strut bearings creak like a motherfucker when turning at low speeds. They ride pretty soft so handling is meh. But anything beats a claped out strut.
>>28620963why did you not ask if they were any good before you bought them
They are slightly worse than OEM. same for KYB, masterpro, durlast, monroe, et al.they do what they need to do, just wont last very long. which is entirely acceptable for a DD appliance.
>>28621020>front strut bearingsOuch, as that’s one of the main reasons I was replacing it.>>28621064Couldn’t find anyone agreeing on whether or not monroe’s were alright, in fact I couldn’t even find consensus on if quick struts in general are any good.>>28621075How long will they last? I’d rather not be redoing this every year.
>>28621105I’ve had them on the front for a year now and they’re still doing okay.
>>28620963Better than blown shocks. But the bottom barrel KYB are the absolute lowest end shock you should accept.
>>28621134I wanted and was told to get KYBs but they don’t sell quick struts (anymore, atleast on RA) for my car (S197). I’d just redo the OEM struts but I have to get this car back on the road ASAP.
>>28621142Cont. I think what i’ll likely do is install these, have them last a few years and keep the old OEMs and rebuild them with bilsteins.
>>28620963they're the lowest of the low before scam amazon specialskyb, bilstein, delphi, motorcraft, tein, and 555/sankei are all commonly available with options in the same price range and much better quality
>>28621075Duralast struts based as shit, swapped over my original coils springs and it sits at the correct height and rides like OEM
>>28620963moron
>>28620963Monroes are shit now, go for KYB
>>28622527KYB is shit since at least 2015 or so, go for Bilstein.
>>28620963why are you asking after spending the money?
>>28622564This stupid posting seems commong on /o/ and, like you, it makes no sense. How many times have you seen a thread that starts>I just bought a 2002 Nakamicke 3000 EFI Turbo /b/ros - what am I in for?when you'd think if he wanted /o/'s opinion he'd ask first.
>>28622687They don't want opinions or advice, they want validation
>>28622690I get that. It just makes them look like gibbering idiots
>>28622690So the best response would be to tell him he's bought a POS from the wrong OEM and the wrong year, then list all the faults until you can actually hear him crying through the screen?
>>28622694>I get that. It just makes them look like gibbering idiotsLike this fuckwit>>28622070
>>28620963For what car, retard?Monroe's are the OEM for Minis as far as I know. They're probably fine
>>28622696OP here, yes, that’s exactly what I want. Real talk though, these probably won’t be great and the mixed opinions online show that, I just wanted to see if it’s “will break 2 weeks after installation” or “lasts 1-2 years and rides like ass” kind of bad, since the amazon reviews are all fake and BITOG users are autism incarnate.
>>28622982wants to avoid autism, comes to 4chanNah Monroe’s are ok. That’s my brand of choice when I’m slapping new ones on an econobox to last a couple years
>>28623168That's perfect. Just gotta last me a few years and ill be happy, I just don't have the time to fiddle with rebuilding a shock and Monroes were the most expensive quick strur for my S197 on rockauto.
>>28621075i boight KYB excel-Gs for my cressida a few years ago and they held up great. dunno if that was older stock or not though.
>>28621134>Better than blown shocksthis. better than nothing, and better than bottom tier chinkshit, but that's about it>>28621105>How long will they last?hearsay claims 3-5 years, unless you live in pothole central. I'm of the opinion that unless you're broke as fuck, or you're only trying to eek out another year or two on your shitbox, quick struts aren't worth it. OES isn't usually more than double the price, and you will 100% chew through two sets of these before you'd replace proper parts
>>28623302I have Duralast shit struts and they're stlll mint 5 years later, I try not to slam it over stuff like a dumb whore but occasionally I'll go over the unpainted speed bump a little quick or hit a big bump in the road and they've held up.
>>28623442just depends where you live more than anything. the roads where I live are fucking abysmal. I go through tie rod ends and shit like every year. moog, precision, duralast gold, makes no difference. if i still lived in california im sure they'd be lasting at least twice as long.
>>28623451>if i still lived in california im sure they'd be lasting at least twice as longMost likely, my car is California since new and it only needed tie rod ends at 20 years and 160K miles, and the dealer still hasn't said my original lower ball joints were clapped out or anything even 22 years and 177K later, everything is still tight going down the road with only control arm bushings done due to age, I'm assuming it's lack of corrosion and harsh weather that's kept everything so fantastic after all this time.
>>28623302I live in Onterrible so all roads are pothole ridden, Ghana has higher quality roads than us. Regardless though, that’s reassuring, i’ll be ecstatic if they last more than a year considering how cheap they were (240$CAD off RA). As I said already in the thread tho, i’ll rebuild the old one with bilsteins and some non garbage top hat bearings once I have the time. Unfortunately this car is my daily and needs to be up and running NOW.
Monroe and KYB are about as cheap as you can go without getting garbage. >>28621189In a daily driver people mover almost every brand you list doesn't even touch those, the exception being kyb.
>>28623846Gabriel is another one that works well, my Duralast struts are re-boxed Gabriel and they've been solid.
>>28623846If I can buy it through rockauto, it's 'commonly available', and there are plenty of cars that you can get OE replacement bilstein shocks for there. Delphi and Motorcraft make stuff for pretty much everything USDM. Same for Tein and Sankei with JDM.
>>28623846>Monroe and KYB are about as cheap as you can go without getting garbage. But what about quick-struts? sure bilsteins are top but they don’t exactly make quick struts. And no not wanting to kill yourself on a spring is not the making of a wrenchlet.
>>28620963you dont actually *need* shocks or springs, skateboards dont have them and they roll along just fine
>>28624392Your legs are the suspension on a skateboard, nigga
>>28624392Erm what are the bushing for then
>>28620963I bought two front Monroe Quickstruts like 9 years ago for my shitbox 2007 Mazda3 as the front shocks were blown at 192k. My car now has 350k and still using these Monroe struts and they are still fine, so I have got over 150k km out of mine and I think I spent like 400 dollars on them if that.
>>28625183Based quickstruts any OEM type from the likes of KYB, Monroe, Gabriel from the parts stores are good struts, and they're cheap, they're not no name eBay chinkshit.
>>28625187Yeah, I am sure they are not going to win any handling awards but for regular DDs they should be fine. Just looked up the prices of these Monroe quickstruts again for my car and they are like 80 Canadian dollars a piece so I def didn't even pay 200 dollars for them over 9 years ago which is pretty good damn value if you ask me.
>>28625190They really are an amazing value, I paid $99 a quickstrut for mine in Dec 2020, and even with all the inflation years later they only want $134 a strut
>>28620963halp> gen 2 escape> auto shop said fronts rotted out> figured it was time, currently at 250 K miles, last replaced at 100 K, road bumps and especially braking on bumpy roads seemed sketchy> had auto shop do my front struts and forgot to ask what they were going to use> they used masterpro> 680 USD for both, parts and labordid I do bad? don't want to keep the car long, frankly. it does seem to ride noticeably better, and there seems to be a lot less vibration. (but if these cannot handle abuse, then they might not be a match for these michigan roads). I also heard they are a rebrand of monroe
>>28625248You did fine Anon, Masterpro is like Autozone's Duralast where they take a strut like Gabriel readymount Monroe, etc and put it in their box and sell it at their Oreily's stores.
>>28625259I seethanks a bunch Anon
>>28623489It's the quality of the roads. The roads in CA are pristine. Most of the country is like borderline offroading in comparison.
