is it just current year's cheapest midlife crisis car or what
>>
depends on how much you like Initial D. camaro is better and cheaper.
>>
>>28623420
It's noticeably faster and more nimble than the Miata, but if you're open to a used car or have a $10k higher budget then it gets BTFO by lots and lots of cars
>>
>>28623420
>midlife crisis car
little gen alpha faggot, 23 years old is not "midlife".
It's an entry level sports car. It's just a miata that's a little more practical.
>>
It’s a car to learn driving in.
>>
>>28623439
>camaro
>cheaper than a GR86
why would you just tell lies like that, anon
>>
>>28623448
Do you think a 4 cylinder camaro cost 40k or something?
>>
>>28623455
You don't buy a 4cyl Camaro kek, dumbass ricer

What 23 year old is buying this car
>>
idk but man the 2.4L look like really fun cars.
Or a used 2.0L that changed the headers + got a tune to help with the torque dip. That dip just looks...annoying.
>>
>>28623491
If you have a half decent job and can save money for your hobby, a GR86/BRZ is extremely attainable, a brand new base model is 30k.
>>
>>28623496
So you literally just graduated, with how many years worth of grinding with your half decent salary, and already you want to finance a $30k + sales tax car, and afford the insurance of this sports coupe with a new driver record? But of course nevermind how much money a 23 year old is spending on actually living.
>>
>>28623516
even with a shit job you can pay off a 30k car loan unless you're literally eating ramen for breakfast, lunch and dinner
>>
>>28623516
if you cant pay taxes and fees outright you have other problems

30k and insurance with a shitty sub 3% apr is like what, around $700? that's like a week of minimum wage lol
>>
>>28623420
It's more of a question of "what else are you going to buy in that price bracket that's a RWD manual".

>>28623444
I mean, you got quads, don't know about lots and lots - Mustang GT, Camaro (let's pretend it still exists new), CTR (doesn't count for most since it's not RWD). Elantra N in between, arguably.

That's about it. Next price range is the M2.
>>
>>28623527
>minimum wage is $18
>>
>>28623516

>>

>unless you're literally eating ramen for breakfast, lunch and dinner
I think you mean ESPECIALLY if you're eating ramen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It'll let you pay down the loan that much faster, or free up more money to spend on mods.
>>
>>28623491
a 23 year old with >100 iq can easily buy this car kek
>>
>>28623538
I've literally never worked a job that paid less than that. You said this person at 23 just graduated, so surely they should be able to get a job higher than minimum wage.
If you can't afford a gt86, maybe you should have studied something more useful.
>>
>>28623538
okay then less than 2 weeks? and youre working an entire month? (and somehow you """graduated""" and can only find minimum wage?)

dont buy a new sports car poorfag

If you hate pony cars, can't afford a Supra but also think Miatas are gay you get a GR/BRZ.

I still hate the first gens, haven't had any experience with the 2nd gens, would take a Miata over either.

When the first gens came out I remember reading a review from Japan that basically called it a "white belt car." That's not the insult that it may seem although it is a little back handed. The dyes used in traditional martial arts belts would fade over time, meaning that because nothing came after black-belt given enough time (experience) that belt would fade back to being white and the cycle would start over. Your journey is supposed to start and end with cars like these, not be spent with it.

Unfortunate that the times we live in means that anything small or RWD is made for enthusiasts when if it had come out in the 90s it would have been just another car. Its stupid that a fully loaded one now costs more than an LT1 and almost as much as a 1SS.
>>
>>28623608
>it would have been just another car
It would have been in the same market as the miata, same as it is now.
>>
>>28623559
Randy Pobst can drive them to the limit. he's not just some boomer who buys an auto tragic """sports""" car like Gordon Murray.
>>
>>28623420
I bought a ‘24 GR86 new and don’t regret it at all. It’s a really fun car that is really well balanced and easy to control in a slide. Consumables are also cheap so it’s a great track car, as people say it’s a great car to learn RWD in. If just want it as a daily and you don’t have any great driving roads near you it’s kinda meh. But if you can get it to a track semi-regularly it’s def worth it
>>
>>28623622
The A110 wouldn't really work without the DCT. You'd lose too much boost with a manual.
>>
>>28623460
>totally organic marketing
>>
>>28623565
no I mean unless you're poor enough that you're already doing that
>>
i never got the point of this car. you want a weak fun car you buy an old miata. i'd never ever buy anything over 10k with less than 300hp.

brz is a car that overprotective but rich dads buy their sons to spoil them. while the neighbour's son drives a new m4.
>>
>>28623439
If I like Initial D why would I buy a car that looks absolutely nothing like the car from Initial D?
>>
>>28623891
it was meant to be a modern ae86. so its like the perfect cars for cheap and non mechanically inclined weebs.
>>
>>28623979
I never understood how it's a modern AE86.
The AE86 was basically a simple shitbox that happens to be RWD and fairly well balanced. It was fundamentally still a Corolla and therefore was a decent daily in addition to being fun.
The Toyobaru on the other hand is a purpose-built sports coupe with none of the practicality. The only thing it has in common with the AE86 is that it isn't very fast.
The AE86 was like a weeb version of the RWD rally Ford Escorts. Even the engines (BDA, 4AGE) are suspiciously similar, albeit not as similar as people claim

>>
>>28623420
Yeah if you like a miata but want a bit more practicality (4 seats even if 2 are meme-tier) without sacrificing the "sports" they are flawless.

My only complaint is how much the price jumped with the second gen. I would have preferred that they kept the first generation warts and all and sold that to 20-30 year olds wanting to buy their first new sports car and left those with more demand and money move onto the GR Yaris

the results speak for themselves. unlike a lot of the junk /o/ shills, the camaro actually has the results to back it up.
>>
>>28623992
It is the closest to a modern AE86 that can be done, as in a realistic every-day RWD NA coupe. Toyota is planning on making their own soon which will replace the NA with a turbo 4 soon, so this new Gen is it and after that it is a completely different car
>>
>>28623839
It worked! I'm going to go buy a car they don't make anymore!
>>
>>28624509

>>
>>28623420
It’s A fun light track car, but we all know /o/ can’t downshift. You’ll probably just be drag racing it on local streets and cry at the sound of a v8 next to you.
>>
Buy a used one for 8k. IDK why anyone would spend 40k or whatever they want at this point for a car that is only fun if you push it to 6k+ rpm or risk writing it off sliding it around. You are going to want something with more torque in a year or two anyway. Buy a used rwd coupe from 20 years ago they don't have gay ass electronic nannies.
>>
>>28623460
That guy and Camisa give me the pederast creeps.

>>28624514
Microwaved steak etc. Any "sports" car that weighs more than 3000lbs is a marketing gimmick for retards.
>>
>>28623420
Not as a sole vehicle or daily driver. I could never do it. Sure the car may be fun on fun roads but in reality you're going to be driving it in traffic 99% of the time. Driving these in normal traffic would get old real quick. As a fun weekend toy? Not for me as there are much better alternatives out there.
>>
>>28625165
How would it suck as a DD? The seats are comfortable, it has about as much power as regular traffic, and the suspension + noise isolation aren't exactly race spec.
That being said, if your main complaint is that you want to do stop light pulls then fair enough.

>>
>>28623420
If you're looking for something lightweight that's more for driving through the hills and twisties instead of going fast in a straight line. It's good for the price.
But I would honestly go for a ND2 or ND3 Miata.
>>
>>28625210
Yes because physics has and always will trump opinions. And physics says that fat cars are shit and are for fat Americans that don't have a molecule of athletesism in their fat fucking bodies and rely on their obese numb dull underengineered redneck chariots to haul their stupid fat asses around.
>>
At this point I think I'd drop 10-15k on an FRS and slap a K24 in one for another probably 10K

such a pain in the ass, why?
>>
>>28625384
For fun, there are basically drop in kits now, you can buy a full haltech harness for the swap without needing to do any merging at all.
>>
>>28625379
I agree the fa20 sucks ass but I can blow it twice for the price if a single k20.
>>
>>28625417
Can you? Maybe the NA ones are cheaper. I know the FA20DIT costs 5-6k these days when you can drop 2-2.5k for an FA24DIT out of an Ascent
>>
>>28625188
>noise isolation
this car is LOUD AS FUCK. and not in a good way. It’s louder than a ND miata with the thicc GT fabric.
>>
>>28625188
The gearing is terrible. The power and torque bands are terrible. The ride sucks. I've had these things try to aggressively get the hole shot on me but I've shut them down at half throttle in our work vans. Sure they're not a drag car but that's what the car will be doing 99% of the time.
>>
>>28625434
don't they have a speaker that pipes audio into the cabin (that can be disabled via unplugging)?
the stock ones that i see on roads are pretty quiet

The Rav4

Brz has suspension tuning more suited for a comfortable daily while the 86 has stiffer springs that likes to oversteer more.

dunno why people here are recommending the camaro. it's ugly. just get the 86
