What’s the Low mileage oil change frequency?I only drive about 500 miles a year. I work from home. All my cars have those oil life percentages. Can I just follow those? I live in desert high heat climate.
in such a fringe case only testing can give you an answer. You should send samples in to a company that tests oil, say once a year, and see what they say. The worst hidden contaminant of oil is actually water from humid air, which accumulates in oil as it goes through the engine. Dry desert obviously has very little humidity, so I'd guess you may be able to go 4 or 5 years between oil changes. Your cars don't test their own oil, they just go by the mileage, so I wouldn't trust the oil change notification.
Every 3 months or 5000 miles generally. I do 3000 for my conventional synth blend vehicle though.
>>28624368If your oil temps go above 180°F on occasion (preferably above 220), then the shelf life of standard motor oil is 5 years. If they don't, then what >>28624403 said applies and you should test for water every year.
>>28624414>Every 3 monthslmao
>>28624368What does your owner's manual say? Usually they say every 5000 miles OR every 12 months, whatever comes first. So, in your case, you would do once a year. But yeah RTFM
>>28624414I change my oil every…(•_•) ( •_•)>■-■ (■_■)3 hours.
>>28624414>>28624458I drive a Tesla so I don't need to change my oil
>>28624463They now claim the drive unit oil is "lifetime" but they used to recommend it every 50-60k and you should still do that.
>>28624467I don't think I will
>>28624468Really no oil? So it’s just a metal on metal drive train :) your battery car is so cute!!! Do you have a Tesla butt plug adapter for when you’re sitting at a charging station? I got the messaging one personally.
>>28624368Every 5k miles for anything on the road. 200 hours for equipment and trucks that run while sitting a lot.
>>28624474Wow anon u're so cool hip and especially masculine
>>28624368In your case, once a year. The mileage is irrelevant for you
>>28624497No I’m edgy and drive a Tesla. >>28624599Pffffftt!! Ok Scotty Kilmer. Go back to jewtube.
>>28624723Most of not all Oil companies will recommend yearly changes regardless of mileage.
>>28624418>shelf life
>>28624450thats like reading and trusting the talmud. They want you to buy a new car after the warranty is up
>>28624414Pretty standard. I do every 3 months or 3000 on full synthetic .My car is tuned and also alot of cars pull power after something like 500 miles on the oil.
>>28624368You should prly get a motorchickle or an elecdick bypsycho or an eScooter. For your car oil change every 1-2 years is fine. You drive so little that even under-changing it won't show any issues by the time you sell it, because you would have only accumulated like only 5000 miles after 10 years. So if you're a cheapass or own an old shitbox, the secret trick they don't want you to know is: NEVER CHANGE YOUR OIL.
>>28626818>>28624414You guys are fucking retarded
>>28627369>tell me more how you know nothing about performance cars, tuning, racing or maintenance. If you race your car or run it hard on the street you need to change your oil way way wayyy sooner than if you were driving normaly. Lots of short trips in the city and lots of idle is almost as hard on the car and also needs more frequent oil changes. retard.
>>28629043Respectfully.Unless you are squeezebenz'ing it in your car daily or attending track days - it doesn't need oil changes as the often as the comments you are defending. Now if you have a use case that justifies a change every 3000 miles - you should probably be including that in your context as to why before jumping on random people who have correctly called you retarded.NPCs doing short city trips don't need to be doing anything special, just not neglecting the car.
>>28629062I stated my car was tuned. That should be enough to imply that its driven hard and working harder than factory settings. I also stated alot of cars pull power after about 500 miles on the oil. short city trips are hard on the car. short trips dont allow the car to get hot enough to evaporate the water the has made its way into the oil and also allows for carbon build up but thats a separate conversation .
>>28624368Once a year
>>28624368I go up to two years since I drive super low mileage on some cars as well, always high quality full synthetics. Depends on use too, I'd trust an old mechanically injected diesel or pushrod V8 on few years old low mileage oil but not a modern DI turbo car.
