Why are vehicles measures in horse power instead of something like bull power?
Because horses were used to move equipment, machinery, objects, and generally perform work like field plowing or carrying shit up a hill. Horsepower estimates about how much work that electric motor or gasoline engine can perform.
Space ships are designed around horses. It stands to reason cars would be, too.
