What do we think about minivans?
>>
outmoded by crossovers
>>
its just a
its just a
minivan
>>

Extremely good at what it sets out to do. Unfortunately what it sets out to do is carry 2 more people than a crossover (0 more than an suv) and be slightly easier to get car seats into.
So nobody really wants them.
>>
>>28628460
Overrated. All they have going for them is sliding doors. If you ignore that a full sized crossover does everything a minivan does and more. They're also expensive as fuck for what you're getting. By the time the dealers done with you you're looking at $50k+ for a mid trim minivan. That's getting pretty close to Suburban money.
>>
>>28628460
Why they gotta be tall? I want wagons.

family had a 1993 caravan that we had until like 2010 and we left it in the upstate new york mountains for a summer car to use. that car was fucking awesome

I like those Japanese passenger vans. I see similar to OP pic by Toyota and Nissan around my town. My favorite is the Toyota Granvia/GranAce, which is closely related to the HiAce

They’re not as common here, but they are huge especially on these tiny streets. I personally like the Nissan Elgrande.

I like the lower center of gravity on my new Odyssey, which was a selling point for me. Didn’t feel as tippy in the corners as the 3-row crossovers I tested. The Mazda CX-90’s cargo space is too small.

My mom had a Dark Green 2003 Mazda MPV with beige interior. As an 8 year old I thought that thing was fucking rad with it's captains chairs and 3rd row AC controls. We sold it for like $300 when it was fully rotted out to some Ugandans or Nigerians who shipped it off to Africa.

I got to ride in a Honda Stepwagon that was pretty nice. Roomy and good visibility and doesn’t look as fat as an Odyssey or Sienna. I wish vehicles like this were even an option in the US
>>
>>28628460
they're more comfortable for passengers and better than suvs
>>

Are we psychic?
I could have sworn people here drew crap like that 10 years ago as a joke.
>>
My wife's pregnant with our second kid, and our car's getting a bit old. I'm thinking of buying a Carnival even though I know I don't "need" it. Minivans are comfortable, have tons of bing bing wahoo gadgets, and will have room to grow for the times when I need to carry adults + kids, or for when we have a third kid. They're expensive, but I think you still get a lot for the money. My main worry is just whether it'll be hard to manoeuvre its enormous girth, but especially since they come with 360 degree cameras, I think I'll get used to it. If I ever get a second car it'll be something small like an i20N.
>>
>>28628462
>>28628678
Crossovers and suv EAT SHIT compared to minivans.

>>28628693
>All they have going for them is sliding doors
You can't downplay the sliding doors that easy you faggot. Suv forever mogged by power sliding doors. Can always fully open in tight spaces. Suv could never.

>>28629833
We got a minivan when wife was pregnant with our 2nd and immediately got used to the space, comfort, and utility. Go for it.
>hard to manoeuvre its enormous girth
It isn't.

Very practical. I want one.

YOU RIKE BIG GRIRR

I like the ones manufactured in the US. Asians keep wanting to turn them into limos.
>>
>>28629519
>I wish vehicles like this were even an option in the US
Closest option is probably a Ford Flex or Ford Freestyle.
>>
>>28628460
Most modern minivans are minivans in name only.

Why are they called minivans? They are as big as a Camry at least. I would have thought very small sized would be a minivan, like the size of a MINI branded vehicle.
>>
>>28631795
>Why are they called minivans?
Because in comparison to a full size van, they're smaller than a van. The big selling point of a minivan in the past was that they fit in a garage.
>>
>>28628460
they are fine but that thing is ugly as fuck
>>
I was born in 2007 in the back of a Toyota Sienna
>>
>>28628462
Crossovers are just homosexual SUVs for menopausal women and SUVs compromise interior space for the truck chassis (and unibody SUVs are just compensation copium crossovers). Minivans are like regular vans but more civilized; lame but highly functional and comfortable.

China is basically the reason why companies should not even attempt full globalization of their product lineup. The BIG GRIRR phenomenon that the Chinese love alienates the rest of the world.

The reason? Buick used to be the state car of China. Big fucking grill. After that, Hongqi became the state car and they wanted their big red line to be the trademark of the brand, so they made a fuckhueg grirr so the styling decision conveys power and status.

Here are other weird regional preferences in Asia
>accent lighting conveys wealth (amber for poors, white for top trim)
>indians won't buy commuter cars with fewer than four doors, period
>chinese big grirr
>seamonkeys love gigantic rear lights
>seamonkeys really love rgb interior lighting
>arabs must have an option to buy in white
>northern asia prefers suvs over pickup trucks (winter is cold and roads are lol, lmao even)
>hong kong likes minivans with limo conversions, who give a fuck about power if you're stuck in traffic
>>
>>28628693
i got my 2018 sienna for 31 out the door
bought it in maybe 2021 i think. the sliding doors and the height are great for kids.

Okay but I wasn't talking about buying them used. Also there's probably a reason why they lose almost half their value after 4 years. One reason being their notoriously shitty trannies.

they are now synonymous with Yakuza in Japan. If you see these roll up, you know 6 niggas in there about to skin someone alive in their own office.
>>
>>28633483
why would you buy new ? lol
all cars lose half their value after 4 years, but if your argument is that minivans lose it more quickly or greater than other cars, i would guess it's because of the demographic buying them wants maximum reliability because it's going to tow around children, and even innocuous things are a nightmare if you are missing your car seats for more than a day.

don't know about the transmissions, they're not for hauling trailers

Damn, I wish. They're hardly depreciating these days. A lot of them are clearly dealership returns after the normie that financed it realized they can't afford the payment.

Looks like a fucking fat brick compared to the Odyssey--which also happens to be out its league in terms of handling and acceleration.
>>
>>28633580
They don't depreciate as fast as you're implying. I just checked and 2021 Carnivals cost $50-55k AUD, while a new one is $80k. That's 37.5% depreciation even if you assume they're identical, which they aren't. Prices have risen since then because they've added a bunch of genuinely good features. And of course there's a difference in value between a car with 0km and a warranty, and a car with 150,000km and no warranty.

So you can own a vehicle that wasn't beat to absolute shit by a housewife? So you can not spend $7k replacing the tranny she fried?

Trucks and SUV's don't.

Risk is ever present, given people are worse with cars these days now that it's trivial to get behind the wheel.

You can stand up in a full size commercial van, they're much larger than these passenger vans.

Vans have gotten significantly bigger too. The largest ones may as well be minibuses in their passenger configuration.

I don't have need for a minivan, but I am considering getting a van van next year. Would like to build it out for work with a way to optionally camp in it. Pretty sure it'll even fit in the garage with a solar setup on top.
>>
>>28641284
crossovers are just hatchbacks with a lift kit
>>

I wish Mazda made a modern minivan like your MPV. Odyssey is great, but I like Mazda more than Honda.
