What is car culture like in Australia?
>>28629051doesn't exist anymore, the cops killed it. Especially in the eastern states, not so bad in western australia.People who've only had their loiscence a few years can't even drive a gr86 because its too "high power"Everyone sold their sports cars and now hoons offroad in highly modified 4wds but they are cracking down on that too. Average member of the public is brainwashed and supports anything that increases safety or can be framed as stopping DA HOONS
>>28629051>drive 30kmh over the limit once>car crashed, banned from driving for 5 years, 10000 dollar fineonly slightly exaggerating
>>28629064I heard that if you touch one of the lines on the roads you can get pulled over for lack of lane control.
>>28629051They don't care because they have sunshine, beaches and women. Even the dude working in the supermarket has a good life out there.
>>28629066unironically highway patrol let me get away with 28 above, instead of 31 above, which would've been instant loss of loicense
>>28629064>People who've only had their loiscence a few years can't even drive a gr86 because its too "high power"What? GR86 exceeds power to weight limit for p platers but p plates are only 36 months in total, so people who have their license for "a few years" can drive them...
>>2862914636 months is a few years
>>28629077There's no houses due to browns.
>>28629064>license has power restrictions do Austrians really lmao
>>28629168https://vicroadssafevehicles.carsalesnetwork.com.au/#/searchthe list is here, it's generally the same in most states something like 130kw per tonne. Not in western (bestern) australia though
>>28629066kek my boss used to drive 50kmh over the limit so he doesn't get late to work.
>>28629146>3yr wait to drive 200hp shit box>get a Hellcat for your sweet 16 here>>28629157Same everywhere.
>>28629168Only for kids who just pass their practical test.
>>28629051Its fairly good if you like 4wd's and doing offroad things like getting bogged, rolling over in creeks, spearing tree stumps through your sump and attaching enough aftermarket rubbish to a Patrol, Pajero or LandcruiserVast majority of the street cars died out to being a rich cunt's posing scene, too expensive to modify, no one is smart enough to fix their own shit and the 70's to 90's era survivor cars are getting too expensive for casual faggots and poors. There's still a bit of a JDM trickle of imports coming in but its mostly 4wd, van and SUV cuck wagons, all the halo-cars got pegged into a ditch or a tree long ago and being the 11th suicidal owner to fix them up isn't appealing either. They stopped making most of the big sports-sedan type things about ten years ago so there's still plenty of commodores and falcons around, 4th owner, half a meth lab in the boot and only crashed thrice for those wanting the genuine bogan experience of having them stolen by a screwdriver and ebay-spoofer
>>28629051I bet they got a lot of cool rare Japanese cars.
>>28629171>>28629178that's wild. can't even drive a base model mustang
Just a heads up for people in Victoria before this website will likely be blocked from people posting from Australia in December this year, did you guys forget about that. Here are locations of new speed cameras being construction or have been constructed, just know that they are average speed cameras.38°04'12.7"S 145°33'44.7"E38°05'04.9"S 145°45'43.3"E38°11'47.3"S 146°02'00.2"E38°12'04.4"S 146°11'27.8"E38°14'41.9"S 146°26'20.7"E38°12'19.5"S 146°30'35.9"EOh yeah and they also have a 80km/h or 50 mph limit on the fwy in some areas. https://trfm.com.au/articles/new-p2p-cameras/They cost $50 millionI think this proves that waze was working a little too wellNSW is installing some too on the Hume Fwy
>>28629202they do
Coming from Bongland Aus seems great. The insurance is way cheaper (insurance here is so fucking gay) and you've got your pick of the usual euro-shit, some cool imported Jap cars and even domestics. I'd love to own an AU falcon
>>28629168You're not even trying.
>>28629051Buy car, get car stolen by police, tell people that erm actually its not that bad chud and then get arrested for a thought crime
>>28629128They always do stuff like that. Its a tactic they use so they can make out like they're doing you a favour
>>28629798lol at least they have some self awareness as to how much everyone despises them then
>>28629196Good summary. We used to have an excellent car culture, which included engineering and shed tinkering. Australia used to punch above its weight with engineering development.Cops have cracked down strongly on modifications under the mantra of safety. Speed limits are ridiculously low, also under the mantra of safety. Meanwhile, we bring in 1500 Indians a day, and even put some in 60 tonne trucks. Makes no senseMost car enthusiasts have shifted to 4x4 light trucks as 1) sporty cars are very expensive and 2) we have forest land to camp and muck around in. However, we're now full and those tracks are dangerous with shit drivers. Our park authorities are also using climate change scam language to close public access to as many forests as possibleOur quality of life is down the toilet and we resemble India more and more each day. Overall we're doing better than England and CanadaI'm tempted to sell my evo 8, but it's $50k for a Toyota 86, $55k for a WRX, $75k for a CTR, $90k for a golf r.
>>28630042>I'm tempted to sell my evo 8, but it's $50k for a Toyota 86, $55k for a WRX, $75k for a CTR, $90k for a golf r.Yeah, no point selling an EVO 8 if its still good to youI've got an old GTO MR spec that people keep nagging me to sell, but thing is. What do I buy if I sold it and quite frankly, it'd be another stupid piece of shit car but I paid off that in about 2009. If I had to buy a new car, the really sad and surprising result is a GR Yaris GT>Its manual, awd, turbo, weighs about 1100kgI don't even mind the 86, new Civic or the WRX either, but they've just not any real cachet to them, just sort of too modern and I'm too old and stupid to figure out how to even fix one so I'd be much better off with an older 4wd and just go beach fishing and fire trail exploring in that until it turns into dust
I find there are two types of people who always complain about car culture in Australia being dead,>poorfags trying to cope with the fact they couldn't buy a nice car>retarded bogans in clapped out commodores and falcons with trailer wheels on the back and missing rear bumpers complaining because they cops always come to visit them after they burned a set out the front of the local high school waiting for their 15yo gf to leave school
>>28630100Yeah exactly - I'd be happy to be in something a bit newer, but the prices are absolutely nuts. I've had my car 10 years and know how to work on it, so it's probably the best value motoring I'll enjoy.I do enjoy getting in my wife's 2024 rav4 hybrid, smooth and tight. But it's not for tinkering or aspirationalAlso agreed - if I lost the evo, I'd probably buy a 4x4 for comfort and safety. I want to do a few track days but everything is crazy expensive.I'm into motorbikes as well, but a nice modern bike is expensive and so is insuranceThere's no cheap fun anymore in motoring
It is most certainly not dead. Just go spend an afternoon/evening at a decent track for a roll racing event or street drag racing and you'll see it's not dead>waahhh I can't do 200km/h in a 60 zone near my houseYou'll have more fun in your tuned barra at a roll racing event, I guarantee it. You'll beat someone, feel good, then someone else with a bigger turbo in an E series falcon w/ front bench seat will hand you your arse. And you can laugh about it together afterwards.
>>28630322Roll racing is unironically dominated by drug dealersYou can barely get work done at the best engine builders if you aren't biker associatedI'm not being dramatic, I'm only a few of degrees away from association. Also fuck Arabs they ruin the scene
>>28629883Evidently not enough
>>28630325Get away from Skidney then. Most of the people at the roll racings I've been to were regular joes with their passion projects. The guys that usually won it were big wig engine builders or people with engines built by said big wigs. The occasional lambo or Mclaren would turn up only to be embarassed by said E series falcon.
>>28629202Only the kids of wealthy Chinese billionaires drive them now because the prices for any import is now that of a mortgage down payment. I went to a meet not that long ago and every Silvia, Skyline and Evo I saw had custom plates that read shit like "Xu Chu" and adorned in tacky Chinese tat (like Hello Kitty head rests) with their owners looking like your typical Asian hypebeast drop-kick. All the ex-hoons sold their imports long ago and now drive 4WDs.
>>28629051it does not bear thinking about
>>28630391Rich Chinese students only drive european cars..
>>28630405this>>28630391you do sometimes see asians driving expensive jdm cars, but they aren't billionaries or anything. The rich billionarie students only drive bmw, mercedes ect. Check out jerry sells youtube channel for proof
>>28629168For probationary drivers yes, which is a good thing zoomers in a v8 is not something needed.
>>28630470you can't even drive a hot hatch OR GR86 lol
>>28630480Interestingly enough the GR86 exceeds the power to weight limit for pplaters, but SR20DET silvias don't.
>>28630385Yeah, I'm just a little bit salty. Tbh even when I am on an 80kmh road or 100kmh, there's some Indian or geriatric sitting 20kmh below the speed limit. We're so fucking full that it's not funnyI want to take my evo to a skid pan day. They no longer just do a burn out style pad, it's a drift figure 8 only with 4x other cars on at the same time.If I want to be the only car on, I need to pay $350 for a drift introduction course (at least you don't have to buy a licence for this one) Track days are fun, but not actually hooning fun. Tracks are wide and technical, you're not flicking the car around etc. There is a rally sprint on 4x times a year with a really cool course, but that's even more expensive than everything else listedI just want to skid responsibly but it'll cost me over $500.
>>28629051imagine america but too poor for all the cool stuff
>>28629051>What is car culture like in Australia?
>>28630540Motorkhana?
>>28629168Yes, but only for zoomies that have only had their license for 2 years. Everyone knows people at 19 drive like they're in Initial D and crash out all the time.>>28629202We did actually, being RHD and closer to Japan than the UK or mainland US has some advantage I guess.>>28630391JDMs are still everywhere in pretty much anybody's hands, I see them constantly in full bogan spec. They may live in awful houses with awful jobs but I can respect the passion they have for their cars and putting all their money into them, it's a simple and based way of life.
>>28630401> flattened cardamn she heavy
If your car is too low the cops push a little wheel on a stick under your car to see if its legally too low.Realistically as others have said, you don't have much freedom and fines are massive. Minor speeding or driving over a solid white line is several hundred dollars. Everyone that's into cars just drives sleepers so they aren't harassed by the cops. Its not Germany tier but its not great either.
>>28630554Surprisingly expensive if you just want to do one - always very tight cone courses and you aren't allowed to power slide, for the most part.I did one a while ago in my R34 gtt, luckily it rained so it got real slippy out there! There's an event called khanacross which looks fun, small dirt road sprints... But you'd need a beater car, and do club membership and licence fees plus event fees. Unfortunately having a registered car in Australia is very expensive, and I don't have ability to store and tow a non registered vehicleMan, all we need is a large wet skid pan, low entry fees. You don't need a long session, just 3x 5 minute sessions for $50 and no licence requirements would be fine by me
>>28629077If you live in Queensland and the Northern Territory, sure. Everywhere else the weather gets cold as shit like anywhere else. Australia isn't all tropics like people think it is.
>>28630540Why would you want to take an evo to a dry skid pan. Most idiotic thing I've heard.
>>28629051>drug addicts with clapped dunnydoors and falcoons>p platers with lancers and 86/brz with garbage BRAAAP exhausts>bogans with lifted to the moon pootrols and landcruisers>drug dealers and chinese students with AMGs, Ms and RSs>pajeets with modded camrys and cruzes>police trying their hardest to shaft people with modded cars and going 0.5m/s over the speed limit while ignoring all the decrepit deathtraps with bald tyres and no brakestheres your current australian car culture, mate
>>28629146That thing is btween 40 and 50k euros here. Expensive, for basically a boiracer car
>>28630696its pretty cheap in australia, 48-54k AUD. Also they can get them used
>>28630695unfortunately accurate regardless of state/territory. don't forget golfs, whether it be p-platers or low-iq temu parts collage retards in a country where you can just buy a falcon.
>>28629168I didn't notice when getting my license but I really feel bad how young people are infantized in this country, not just cars but many other things. Its generally taught that you have to be grateful to the government to allow you to have anything. Its part of the culture and people are taught this from a young age. I think its why if you search for nanny state Australia pops up near the top.>>28630695also dobbing culture, everyone wants to dob on your to show off for social media>>28629171I knew someone driving their fathers car and the police made then wait 30 minutes while they checked every single car in the database so they could fine them. I think in America there is a time limit they can stop you for.>>28629239I'd rather be able to buy a Bentley which you can have cheap. I guess you have the Carlton and Sierra which we never got.
>>28629338>t. still took the bait
>>28629171We also don't have it in the Crapital Territory but we've adopted a lot of the other gay shit since I was young like not being able to drive more than one of your mates around at night
>>28630790Just tell them he's not your mate and you're just waiting for a mate
>>28630322MUH roll race take it to track>get car defected on trailerHahhahahaha kys auscuck, this country is so fucking gay
>>28630621The skid pan is never dry, they wet it and use some diesel or mix of lubricantCheck out some YouTube videos, it looks very fun. I want to feel the Active Yaw Control in actionThe skid pan isn't a burn out pad
>>28629051Its dying bc nobody can afford a house anywhere you'd want to live. Rent is also bad. Unless you debtmaxx I guess. Being overleveraged on a styrofoam house in the middle of nowhere and a lifted ute with half the ARB catalogue thrown at it seems to be the new Australian dream.
>>28630606It's honestly just luck of the draw. I'm in Vic and see people getting around with cars so low they can't make it over speed bumps, cars with no plates at all (I see this fucking constabntly and idk how they aren't getting fined or pulled over every minute) and cars with retard levels of stance. Police are too busy with real shit here to give a crap about what hoons are doing anymore and are actually doing that "catch da reyal crimnuls" thing now.
>>28632115>cars with no plates at all (I see this fucking constabntly and idk how they aren't getting fined or pulled over every minute) i assume cops are too scared to pull them over, they know they will run and cops basically aren't allowed to pursue afaik because abos keep crashing
>>28632118I suppose that could be it, though probably not for fear of abbos, there really aren't any in Vic. I've only ever seen them in SA and NT (usually in parks and never driving, I figured they couldn't afford cars).Even so, I still see some of the same unlicensed cars all the time and even some car at my work hasn't had plates for over a year now with no issues, it's bizarre considering all the memeing about Vic and cops going after car people.
>>28632120https://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-13/victoria-overhauls-police-pursuit-policy-following-review/6615492
>>28632115you can get unrego permits for a full month to drive around w/o platesyou need to display it in the windshield and you're only meant to use for it for moving or getting it rego'd but the only way they'll do you for that if you're a dumb kunt and park it outside the shops then they pull you over
>>28632144I know about those and trust me, these cars have fucking nothing anywhere. They really are just people that don't give a fuck and drive around without plates. I've only seen that piece of paper just once and that guy even put a copy on his rear window to be extra safe.
>>28632115>>28632118Yeah it's fucked that abos and teens are running amok, stealing cars, aggressively driving (and crashing and dying, harming innocent people) but cops have to treat them with kid gloves.Teens on dirt bikes riding aggressively through main roads is a huge issue, but cops aren't even allowed to pursue. One or two good fellas did have a crack, the teens crash and the copper gets hauled through court. These teens are going to kill some innocent little kid or something soon. I'm sure that I'm not the only one dreaming of hitting them with my bull bar. We all know they're multi generational welfare recipients anywayIt's only use middle class that have to adhere to all laws and pay full share of taxes
>>28630606Police are retarded because legality is unrelated to the overall clearance and is entirely dependent on the specs given by the manufacturerThey will put out a sheet with a minimum height and if you want anything lower you need an engineering certificate, a retarded example is the mx5 which only has a drop limit of 1mm according to mazda but no cunt is getting pulled up for that because its all about the wheely stickNot even going to go into the fact 99% of cops dont know what an intercooler is so they just take guesses and hand out fines based off that
