Why do people conefag, surely you'd have more fun on a real course?

I just drive fast on the freeway for free

Because in the US most people live multiple hours from a track and because of normies like /o/tards, the track time : money ratio is fucking abysmal. The hot pit open practice day or test day was replaced by the "track day" with a promoter and 4 different groups and 20 minutes session fucking GAY

so, conefagging becomes a cheap fun little thing to do in lieu of the massive lifestyle investment that tracking and especially racing is.

Conefagging is like custom tracks but IRL. It's more work to get set up and the courses aren't objectively as good as existing tracks, but you get a new experience every time and raw driver skill is rewarded more than tuning and line memorization.

It’s fun to meet like minded people if you live an area that isn’t just boomers. Helps figure out handling on tight corners. Dirt cheap to drive and run. Unfortunately, I live like 2+ hours to the nearest tracks which isn’t bad, but driving like 10-15 minutes to Autocross is a lot more digestable. Autocross also allows me to test my handling/suspension mods effectively in hard cornering. Random curvy roads do not do me justice

It's cheap and easy to get into. Very minimal safety regulations. And the risk to yourself and your car is low. Whereas going 130 mph on a real track you could crash big time. Destroy your car, serious injury or death.

As far as I know the local conefags only rent the two local race tracks now because it's such a fucking pain to get a parking lot.

The ability to vary the course layout easily makes it useful for learning.

>"track day" with a promoter and 4 different groups and 20 minutes session fucking GAY
you know you usually get multiple sessions, right? and often 1-2 hours of open track at the end of the day
>>
I've done it and it kinda sucks. You get 3-5 minutes of seat time total. It's not fun and not enough time to experiment.
I live where I can take quite a few corners at the traction limit just driving to the grocery store so standing around watching cones for 5 hours doesn't really do it for me. I'm not excited by competition, I don't want to hear Johnny rant at me about how he's going to turbo his mom's Kia, I just like driving hard.

A total of 10 20 minute sessions compared a total of 5 2 minute sessions. Wonder which is preferable...
>>
>>28638747
+1 to this gay promoter shit, Australians require an additional licence/membership on top!

The motorbike ones are worst - they have half a dozen "instructors" floating around giving shit advice. What a waste of money

Also, 6x 20 minute sessions is too much for beginners. They should offer half the sessions at half the prices.

In Australia, all parking lots have curbs/bollards/trees etc, likely actively placed to discourage skids

>Imagine limiting yourself to one specific type of motorsport.
I'll go to the track and then the next day I'll do an autocross event.

>Conefagging is like custom tracks but IRL
lmao. yeah you can have any track you want, so long as it has no elevation and fits in a 1/4 mile long parking lot
>>
>>28639770
Most people here can't do this, unfortunately. Here is a (You).
>>
>>28638889
Track days can get a little sketch with minimal tech inspection, street tires/brakes, no roll cage, and random often inexperienced chucklefucks on the track with you. I had a brake master cylinder start to fail at turn 1 on lightning in NJ and ended up getting around the corner but I put two wheels in the dirt which could have flipped the car if the ground were softer.

Conefagging, all you gotta look out for is corner workers and light poles. And its like $50 or less versus $200+ for track day.
>>
>>28640404
Get good faggot.
Every man should have enough income at 30+yrs old for track days

>>28640408
>$200+ for track day.
Anon, $200 doesn't even get you through the gates these days
>>
damn you mutts get owned hard.
my annual burgerking membership costs me 3k eurobux
>>
>>28640631
My nearest track has a $4500 lifetime membership fee and $1500 yearly dues. Not too bad tee bee aych
>>
>>28640622
but i'm only 24
i'm working on it :(
>>
>>28640631
But isn't the Burger King full of a bunch of retards 24/7?
I thought only the dedicated track days had actual racers there.
>>
>>28640974
yeah but I don’t care. Most slowfags stay out of your way so you can go ham

I have to say club racing tracks that are just an airfield tyrewalled off into a track like east fortune are SOVL. Probably top 3 more SOVL track styles along with

>National circuit layouts
>Road circuits (Imatra, Billtown, Macau etc.)

Every time you race on these tracks the world heals and the Tilke Industrial Complex recoils.
>>
I rode along with my dad conefagging growing up.
It's alright, it's like a cooler version of a boomer car meet cause you get to see most everyone take a spin in whatever enthusiast vehicle they brought.
>>
>>28640631
Yup. Every office job dork with enough money for a 10 year old porsche now thinks it's le epic hobby to have, and the prices got jacked up immensely.
>>
>>28638676
I cant do cones. Its too much to keep track of which way to go when there are 600 cones infront of me. I can do gates ,road barriers, hay bales but cones just fuck me up
