mitsubishi did some really retarded shit. if they just gave their entire 90s fleet a proper drive train they would probably be up there with the other halo cars, instead of people literally only caring about the evo.

I wish they would go back to making cool cars.

This.

This car, along with the MX-6, should have been RWD.

Nah. Also FWD makes this board seethe impotently so that's another bonus.

an FTO with an evo swap would be fukken sick

Because it's objectively dogshit. They took what could have been an amazing, fun, cult classic car, and sent it to the memory hole grave by cutting corners and making it fwd. fwd exists for two reason, to save money and to increase cabin space. That's it.

Transverse is really shitty to wrench on

My dad had one of these for a bit. Didn't know the difference between FWD or RWD at the time, just thought it was a cool looking car. Drove my siblings and I to school with it a few times and I remember it getting complimented. He eventually got rid of it due to fuel, tax and insurance cost but I was sad to see it go. He doesn't really go for anything sporty anymore, so probably a mid life crisis purchase.

Please elaborate how FWD is "objectively dogshit". This is bound to be a laugh.

You have zero track or performance driving experience if you don't understand. 1) weight transfer 2) weight distribution 3) high speed dynamics and cornering correction dynamics due the the aforementioned (no ability to steer with power) 4) power limitations 5) extreme pain in the ass to service 6) torque steer 7) ur gay and ur waifu a shit

All the positives of FWD are for economy. There is no other advantage. I don't understand why weebs feel the need to cope so hard over this. Your gay little toyota is fwd because it gets higher mpg, it increases cabin space dramatically, and it saves the manufacturer money. End of.

>could have been an amazing, fun, cult classic car

anon most people who love ftos never got them

it already is a cult classic car

and to answer your question it was based off the mitsubishi mirage platform of the same period, so it wouldn't get rwd; *maybe* awd but then it would enroach on evo sales and cost a lot more money.

its from a time period people actually bought 2 door coupes so its meant to compete with other 2 door coupes (integra, prelude, celica, mx3/mx6). it had a 200hp 2 liter v6 meant for displacement taxes from the galant of the same years.

This was my favorite car in middle school b/c Gran Turismo 3.
Yes it's a shame it's FWD, but it's a nice-looking car.

>no ability to steer with power
This is how you know someone’s never driven a FWD car fast, or more likely any car fast. You can absolutely steer while on power. Yeah if you floor it mid corner you’ll understeer off the road, but you’d spin out in a RWD car if you did the same thing (assuming you’re carrying any speed into the corner).

Yes you can’t put as much power down nor as quickly, but if you’re not racing it makes very little difference.

Sub-300hp naturally aspirated Golfs hang with 600hp subarus and BMWs in hillclimbs all the fucking time.
