Yeah if it's like 1am and traffic is clear and you see another sports car, you can pull up to them and go for a race
>t. never got a traffic citation in my life

I used to street race a lot. I've been in hundreds. In the '00s it spontaneously happened several times a week, just commuting, and there used to be big meetups in every city where we'd organize races or just hang out. It's just good clean fun.
I'm always down to race, even in slow cars, from a roll or dig, idc. But I've only been in one in the last 2 years, everyone is too paranoid (cameras, cameras everywhere) or against having fun now. And compacts or modded cars are extremely rare these days.

fucking sucks that retards doing dumb shit like takeovers caused cops to ruin everyone's fun

>race on track
>something bad happens because someone was stupid
>soccer moms scream OMG THINK OF THE POOR INNOCENT BABIES IN THEIR SPORTS CAR FIX THIS RIGHT NOW
>regulations now require tens of thousands of dollars in car modifications and safety gear that will in no way stop something bad from happening if someone is stupid, just make random freak accidents that barely ever happen less dangerous
>people end up racing on the streets because they don't want to turn their one car in to a track car with a 5 point harness that's a pain to get in and out of with its roll cage and non-adjustable bucket seats
>something bad happens because someone was stupid
>streets get filled with 1984 cameras with AI license plate recognition and unmarked secret police cars
>people end up racing on deserted streets outside the cities far from help when something bad happens because someone was stupid

Only really stoplights with randoms and stuff, even then it can be pretty risky. You could get kamikazed like in pic rel.

It's not the safety regs, there's no regs for track days other than a helmet. It's the cost (from insurance mostly) and the fact that in most of the US tracks are half a day a way at minimum.

I was there 3000 years ago...

The city I lived in had a drag strip operating on an old Navy airstrip and that closed in the mid-70's. However it had taught the locals how to run a drag race and when I started hitting the meets and races in the early 80's as a teen the races looked just like an NHRA event with the flagger for the two cars staged, lane boss directing the next two for their burnouts, and 4 more cars lined up behind them waiting their turn. Keep in mind this in like 1am on a county road on the back side of an airport. No one parked beyond the starting line and only one guy was at top end with a handheld radio to report who won that race.

That kept up for a few years and the old heads started getting families and real jobs and stopped coming out. Unfortunately they didn't train any successors so the racing in the same spot kind of devolved to an every-man-for-himself thing with no organization and parking everywhere, mid-strip, top end, wherever they felt like. The racing further changed to where with any serious races the participant snuck off and got it done without an audience because if they didn't an entire circus would follow them out there and make it damn near impossible to get a good race in while also attracting law enforcement.

By this time it's roughly 2000 or so and all my peers have quit going to the street races in favor of garage parties with an occasional run out to a nearby county road if a race needed to be conducted.

I am that anon. We only ever raced with a clear road ahead. I've never raced through or around traffic, nor have I seen anyone do that IRL. Mostly stoplights with an open road ahead. Or we'd have a spontaneous roll race on the highway where we'd slow down to 30 for a while to create an open space ahead.
When I was really into it we even had people do rolling roadblocks behind us to make sure the road was clear and one guy would go ahead to verify no cops. No one ever wanted to be responsible for hurting anyone, we took precautions.
I've never seen a race go through or around traffic or not stop for lights and signs. I have seen TFATF-style races where we shut a road down and race between cars parked on the sides, that was too sketchy for me personally but I saw it happen.

This sounds like the reality I know of.

Yeah two street racers hit a truck running a red light and both died.

Go to a real fucking track you terminal turbo retard.
>>
>>28643316
Seriously.
There's more fucking retards trying to "race" everything these days than there ever was.
Does OP even drive?
I have to deal with these fucking mouthbreathers "street racing" in rush hour traffic on workdays now.

>There's more fucking retards trying to "race" everything these days than there ever was.
This is the polar opposite of what I see on the road every day. 20 years ago, driving the same roads in the same town, I used to get hit up to race on a near-daily basis. Now I don't see anyone race ever, I don't see any modded cars, and I never, ever, see anyone other than myself go wide-open-throttle.
Traffic today is WAY more calm than it was in the '00s. Everyone wants to believe that their time is the worst time ever boo-hoo.

Kinda
I have a Lancer GT, and I like to step on it, so it revs a bit. That's gotten me a bit of unwanted attention on the road back from work. First "race" was against a 6th gen mustang, the road I was on has a speed limit of 30 and I was going around 39/40 Hes on my left going about the same speed as me, I say to myself "Man if he wants to get caught by the cops he can go for it" Then i hear him step on it. I just throw reason out of the window and step on it as well. I was infront of him for abit before he overtook me. We stopped at a light I had to turn I waved and thanked him for the fun night.

Even worse. The only way to defeat the overpowered Stage 2 bosses is to turbo-swap an MR2, not the land barge L6 turbos.
>>
>>28641182
people still do it regularly but it depends on the area. for example browns are always cutting through traffic and crashing their infinitis bmws and hondas her in ny and especially with newer technology you can get cars way faster for way cheaper compared to the 2000s. honestly wish it wasn't so accessible
