If an oil change costs 60-70 to do yourself, with an OEM filter and high quality synthetic, why spend another 40+ on an analysis when you could just change your oil almost twice as often for the same cost? Knowing your engine has extra wear doesn't really change the fact that you need to change your oil more often than the manufacturer states. They only recommend low viscosity for improved mpg and high change intervals to reduce waste because that gets them tax breaks. Am I missing something? The engine is going to last as long as it lasts and the most I can do for it is change the oil every 3k and use high quality fuel, right?
>>28641728Yeah. just another gimmick for autists
>>28641728Why do you have your phone set to military time?
>>28641728an oil analysis can tell you if parts are wearing abnormally or if contamination is a problemhaving a baseline and then when you suspect something is wrong or getting worse you send in another and compareit's for diagnosing a problem
>>28641768I work all 3 shifts, have blackout curtains, and its easier to keep track of what time it is
>>28641781But if anything in the engine is wrong, what can you really do? You're not going to tear it down just to change piston rings or rod bearings
>>28641784oh yeahI guess you just have to scrap the car if the rings go bad
>>28641787I mean hosntely though, what's the average person gonna do? You're not gonna pull the engine out of your daily, you're gonna drive it till it shits the bed and either have a shop put a new engine in it or buy a new car
>>2864176812 hour format for analog 24 for digital

>>28641788do you think the average corolla driver is getting an oil analysis?it's for built engines, modified and exotics
>>28641792Idk it kinda seems to be shilled to the average person
>>28641797you are in a bubble or somethingthe average person gets their oil changed at a dealer or jiffylube
>>28641728Mercedes has the tisim about this. iirc its a part of their fleet program
>>28641768>military timeIs that how Mutts call normal time? Instead of minutes going before hours measured in flying fucks per big mac after Thursday.
>>28641791
>>28641824Do europoors use a 24 hour clock on analog clocks?
>>28641728>>28641764Oil analysis’s are an extremely powerful tool for understanding what is happening in your engine and general health. Being able to track trends in wear metals, fuel dilution, TBN etc. can help you optimize maintenance intervals as well as catch issues before they become big problems. Perhaps you notice your fuel dilution has been steadily going up over a couple of OCI, you might have a leaky injector that needs to be replaced or you’re getting high levels of silica which might indicate unfiltered air getting into the motor or a filter issue. Maybe you’re shearing down your oil faster than the prescribed OCIs and need to shorten them to maintain grade. I have analysis’s done on my personal vehicles as well as equipment because as that old hackneyed saying goes; “oil is cheap, engines are not”
>>28641849Kek, what are you driving, an antique Rolls or something? Otherwise why would you give a flying fuck about any of that>unfiltered air getting into the motorOr you could just take out the filter, inspect that area and find out in two seconds.
>>28641768>military time?In the rest of the world this is just a 24 hour clock.
>>28641846Sometimes. But OP is not analog clock.
>>28641824>>28641861Their military also uses kilometers and millimeters for some reason. Strange, huh? As if the Metric system gives some advantage or at least doesn't result in a disadvantage compared to the rest of the world.
>>28641728Oil lab tests are extremely important. Not all oils are created equal. For example: I used a 10w30 Mobil 1 oil for a few autocross events and the oil broke down pretty much immediately. There was a lot more metal in my oil than there should have been. I switched to a redline 10w30 and the wear rates dropped by a LOT.In my race car, I kept seeing 310F oil temps and I was curious how the Race oil held up.Turns out it's fine as long as the change interval was 1,000miOr in my daily Corolla.Apparently it has a very tiny head gasket leak and a little bit of sodium gets into the oil. After 5,000 mi the level is high enough to change it. But otherwise the oil could have gone 7,000 to 10,000 mi without any issue. But if you never test the oil, you would never know. I then continued to test a bunch of different brands of oil and I found that the Mobil 1 extended performance performed the best in my car and was actually the lowest cost oil.I ran that little Corolla engine past 300,000 mi without issue or even loosing compression.
>>28641947oil is also very sensitive to temperatureevery 10°C more cut the lifetime of oil in halfI am a germanfag and I visit the Nürburgring quite often.Oil temp is above 130°C within the first lap which kills the oil really fast.Got an external oil cooler and oil temp dropped below 100°C which should make the oil last 3 times longer. I still change it quite often but the oil should survive longer than just a weekend of WOT uphill.
>>28641967>am a germanfag and I visit the Nürburgring quite often. where are you getting your oil analysed? Dutchfag here and I haven't really been able to find any companies that offer it at a reasonable price. Also have you looked into using Rowe oils? They make some fine shite and tend to be priced fairly aggressively.
>>28641728Only way to figure out if your oil is doing your job.Brothers car:His drive can push oil to 12,000mi without any loss in protection. But not all oils can do it.Meanwhile my daily commute is difficult and I can only push oil to 6,000mi
>>28641728It’s cheap insurance imo 35 dollars for a test to see how the engine is doing and tracking when the oil is shot. Pic is 17k mile oil change and is still fine so why shell out a couple hundred dollars prematurely.
>>28641768Military / 24 hour clock is vastly superior. Try it for a couple days.
>>28641939Yeah but you’re going to still have analog clocks it makes sense to just do 12 hour time everywhere, than having analog clocks on 12 hour and digital on 24.
>>28641941Because when you’re calling in artillery or air strikes you need very high precision. In day to day life, if you’re dealing with something in miles, you likely don’t care about having meter/yard precision. Tenths or fractions are likely precise enough.
>>28642504>it makes sense to just do 12 hour time everywherePeople can't even agree on how to call noon and midnight using a.m./p.m., what are you talking about?>than having analog clocks on 12 hour and digital on 24.Go for ana-digi clocks, best of both worlds if done right.
>>28642760Midnight should be PM since you roll over at 1:00. But it doesn’t even matter because you can tell based on the context 99.9% of the time.
