>$500 for power window mechanism repair and parts for all 4 windows
>price of my beater car: $350

Is there any way to just keep the windows up permanently? Duct tape, inserting a piece of wood, cardboard wedge between glass and door panel, suction wall mounted hooks etc. Seriously I've tried them all and they all failed.
>>
Yeah. Take the door card off and lock the mechanism in the up position with zip ties.

kek fucking wrenchlet retard

The fuck? Are you looking at brand new?
When this happened to me years ago I took the door card off and shoved a cardboard box in there and some other shit under it to lock it in place until I got a used mechanism for like $30 and replaced it myself.

You can do what we racing guys do- get an old seatbelt, attach to the bottom of the internal window frame, feed it through a hole in the top (make one if needed) and pull on the belt it to close it. Then measure up a point where you can put a sturdy hook on the door under where you fished the belt from, make a hole in the belt, put an eyelet in the hole and catch it on the hook. Voila, you have windows that can stay securely closed, but can also open. Add more eyelets on the belt for partially open positions.

your car is a GM product isn't it

Are you stupid? Just take the door panel off and look. It will be immediately apparent

>inserting a piece of wood, cardboard wedge between glass and door panel,
Helped someone do this with his car once. Bit of 2x4 offcut wedged under the bottom edge of the window and jammed somewhere in the door, with the door card put back on over it. Was a stopgap IIRC until we would get a replacement door cheap and then we just whacked that on and bolted the electric motor from the old one into it (that door had a manual window but the holes were all there to install the power window stuff) and it lasted as long as we needed it to. The window in the new door fell in as well so the chunk of wood may have been the better option in the end.

The aforementioned was kek. Not American made GM though if that's what you're thinking, would have been made Japan I think, or maybe the Philippines.

Did your stupid ass go to a dealer or something?

That sounds like a $20 junkyard part

Where did you get a 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox for $350?

Why didn’t you just replace the regulator instead of the door?

Good thing you only have 2 doors. If that same regulator is for OP's car then $136 x4 is already $544 parts without labor

Junkyard window regulators and elbow grease.
Bring a 10-14V battery (some drill batteries work, just check the voltage) and alligator clips to test the regulators before buying.

My real question is how did you manage to kill all 4 regulators?

Can't remember exactly since it's been a while now and it wasn't my car but I think there was something wrong with the thing that carries the bottom edge of the glass (not sure about the exact term for it) and the window kept falling out of that. I think we did discuss trying to finagle that part in under the existing window but it looked like it was going to be a right shit and we were also concerned about bending it or otherwise upsetting it on the way in and ending up right where we started, since the window in the new door seemed quite firm and steady as it was. So we figured it was less fuss to just bolt the door on and I ran the wires in for him so he could still work his other windows while driving. Again the new one shat the bed later so it didn't help us much in the end. Oil in the fucking thing was lasting longer than the windows, he ended up selling it later because of that.

Previous owner of my old 5 series hired Plank from Ed, Edd n Eddy to help. The cable of the the window regulator had obviously corroded and snapped, and this was their solution.

fpbp. Something like this. I briefly had a E300 that had a rear window regulator go out and that bag of ass was just not worth it so I cut a piece of scrap metal to length, and welded it inside the door to jam the window up permanently. No regrets.

is that an MOT issue?

How the fuck would that fail?

Nah, MOT only covers safety related stuff, They don't give a shit if your windows work or not.
