Why aren't there any car races where someone has to go to the dealership, buy a honda civic and race that?
what?
>>28643341I want to see like nascar or f1, but instead of their bullshit bespoke handmade cars they have to drive massproduced shitboxes straight off the lot
>>28643345they do, its called entry level racing.
>>28643345> massproduced shitboxes straight off the lotare not built to race it is literally dangerous to try to race them at high speeds in their stock econobox form >so just go slowerthat answers your question of why no one does this
Sounds a bit like old school touring cars.I would like to see homologation models being raced. was more interesting.
>>28643367>it is literally dangerous to try to race them at high speeds in their stock econobox formsounds based
>>28643345It's too dangerous for most pussy ass drivers and racing organizations. It's clearly that simple. This is also why "production car" record attempts are dubious at best because they often put a racing seat and/or roll cage in the car. Which is not production equipment therefore making it a modified car, but apparently it's okay to just lie.
you already see this thoteenagers driving their mom's nissan sentras trying to "swim" in highway traffic like they saw on youtubeexcept they dont have a sports car so they just end up wrecking themselves
>>28643460A roll cage is not a performance modification No one would discredit a production car record because you painted it a non-factory color
>>28643337>go to the dealership, buy a honda civic and race that?26k down the drain instantly, racing during the break-in period lol, that 2.0L BIG BLOCK engine is pooched. Those handle like ass anyways, unless you bought a bunch of Si's you'd be better off racing literally any 20yo sports sedan.

>>28643471I don't think he means racing it straight out of the dealership onto the road. On a track or something like they used to. "Win on Sunday sell on Monday" and all that.
>>28643345>What is Nissan Micra/Sentra cup series
>>28643345That exists. The cars are still modified, but aside from a cage and stripped interior it's mostly bolt-ons like coilovers, sway bars and an intake + exhaust. At least in the case of the cars used in the Sentra Cup in Canada, which are modified 6-speed base model Sentras taken right off the lot. The UK has an equivalent with Fiestas IIRC as well.
>>28643337That's something I always loved about the Gran Turismo series. The beginning of each game is basically "go buy a random underpowered shitbox and race it against a bunch of other random underpowered shitboxes so you can earn money and upgrade it until its actually kinda almost decent". Eventually you're driving supercars and whatnot but the first part of the game is the most fun for me.A lot of racing games focus on high powered stuff, but I wish there were more that let you find out what would happen if a bunch of retards took their 160hp Toyotas to Laguna Seca for a day.
>>28644318Of course it's Canada with the sentras.
>>28643337Best Motoring magazine in Japan used to do that. They would review various econoboxes (usually in some sporty trim) by racing them around Tsukuba.
>>28644299no he literally said >>28643345>drive massproduced shitboxes straight off the lot
>>28645106Yeah "taken from the lot" as in, as is, retard.
>>28643345That's what NASCAR used to be; it's why it's called Stock Car racing. Of course, it hasn't been like that for decades and the lack of that feature is part of the reason why I think it sucks in the modern era. TransAm started as this too. There's modern SGT and GT TransAm racing, I guess, but that's not quite the same. Might be one of the closer things to it though like the Sentra Cup mentioned in this thread.
