I'm trying to learn how to drive a manual and stalled like 15 times.
>>28643931Wait until you catch a red light on a steep hill
>>28643933What do you even do in that situation?
>>28643938Pray whoever's behind you isn't too close
keep powering through it and practicing.most people went through this experiencein my first manuel car i had no one to teach me and my assigned parking spot in my apartment was on a slight angle. so i stalled like 5 fucking times trying to PARK MY OWN CAR I can't say you'll eventually come to enjoy driving manuel, but you will at least be able to drive it competently in the first place to make an informed decision about whether you prefer autos or manuel. >>28643938use your hand brake remember burn clutch is always better than destroying the bumper of the BUGATTI behind you so its ok to overrev a bit.
>>28643938Gas pedal to the metal and fast release of the clutch
>>28643938As another anon said, handbrake approach works well. With something that has good torque like a diesel against a less steep hill you can just start by still holding brake, getting clutch to bite point and removing brake input until clutch holds the car on it's own, then doing the regular stuff to start going by releasing clutch further slowly and adding gas. Torquey enough cars don't even need gas pedal to start going against hill. Downside for this is a bit of clutch wear of course. Either way if you stall on a hill just press the brake down again to stop rolling and begin again from there with chill.
>>28643931maybe your clutch is worn?if not, keep practising. try doing it without using any gas pedal.
>>28643931Practice makes perfect.>>28643938As >>28644007 said, it's better to burn your clutch than crash into someone. Don't be afraid to give it some juice.
>>28643931It's all muscle memory really until you learn the pedal responses. You'll get used to it quickly then never think about it again.
Do carfags really?
>>28644538that looks gay and complicated for no good reason
>>28644544>gay and complicated for no good reasonGood description of the four-wheeled automobile, especially compared to a motorcycle
>>28644550dude a colony of ants could cross the street and that would end your life
do it 15 times more
>>28643931find an empty place to practice.do this exercise: start moving by only slowly releasing the clutch, then push the clutch pedal so the car slows down, and start moving again. once you nail that, start adding accelerator so that car moves easier.
>>28643931start practicing finding the bite point with the handbrake engaged, then practice holding it
Ignore this information gatekeeper op >>28644645 just rev it up to 4k and dump the clutch, you'll never stall again
>>28644653do you work for Big Clutch?
>clutch in>hold revs at 3500rpm>let clutch out as fast as you can while pressing the gas in to the floor at the same time
Get a manual Focus. Transmission can take a beating and is ez to learn on.
>>28643938Use your e-brake.Pull the handle and slowly let off your brake pedal; you'll feel the back of the car rise. When it's time to go, let off the couch and start on the gas just like you're taking off anywhere else. When you feel the back of the car start to go down, let the e-brake handle down and you shouldn't roll back at all.
>>28646892Let off the clutch too.
>>28644056this makes my brain hurt
>>28643931The clutch separates the engine from the gear system so you can shift properly. It has a high-friction surface so that when you let the clutch out the engine can engage with the drive train and transfer the power to your wheels. When you're letting the clutch out the flywheel on the engine needs to have enough power to overcome the friction on the clutch and drive your car forward (and/or uphill if thats the case). All that's to say you need to rev the engine while you let the clutch out. In first gear you don't need to rev cuz the gear ratio is forgiving. But anything past that you need to rev before you hit the clutch's biting point or you'll stall the engine.Keep practicing. My left leg had to develop a bit of muscle/coordination before i could pull it off smoothly. The car will be fine.
Push in the clutch with your left, right is on the brake pedal. Shift into 1st. Take your right foot off the brake and press gently on the gas pedal. If you have rpm meter, press the gas pedal until you hit a bit above 2k rpm. Start releasing the clutch veeeery slowly. When you feel the car starting to move, don't release the clutch right away, let it build some momentum, then let it go. Rest should be easy
>>28647734Are you retarded? He shouldn't release the brakes until the clutch is at its tipping point. OP needs to learn where the tipping point of the clutch is. That's it. Once you do that, you can effortlessly start a car uphill as you can just rely on the clutch to maintain your position as you push the gas pedal. With that said, if you're learning with some 75hp shitbox, might aswell use the parking brake in hills. Those small shit engines have extremely tight and tender tipping points.
>>28643938I still use my handbrake sometimes when I have to reverse up a slope
>>28643938You'll eventually get so good you won't even need the handbrake. Don't worry OP. It's scary at first but it gets easier and then it gets fun
