Has anyone here even driven a BMW? What is it like?
>>
Compared to my Toyota Corolla for example
>>
completely sterile and soulless, if we are talking about a modern one. a thrilling motoring experience if we're talking an older/vintage one. such is life when you have a gayPS system.

I drove a 540i e39 and it was sterile and soulless
the engine was fast, it could take turns at an absurdly high rate of speed, but the audis I drove were a lot more fun to wring out

I would say the engines are smooth and fast relative to the competition but the ride is firm and I hate that
also probably depends on the model but unless you get the high-lux ones the seats can be kinda uncomfortable

>implying an e39 is not modern
zoomie begone

i've driven a dodge challenger with the bmw made zf8 spd

What do you think, OP?
They are called (U)ltimate (D)riving (M)achines for a reason.
There’s no substitute.

It was great for a while, both fast and comfy while being balanced. Was surprisingly cheap to buy and ran economically and reliably for a bit. Then started eating expensive parts at an obnoxious rate before seizing entirely shortly out of warranty. 5/10 would only do it again if I were planning not to keep it, which isn't how I treat cars

Old BMW:
>Excellent chassis tuning
>Holy Trinity of manual transmission, naturally aspirated engine, RWD
>Excellent steering feel
>More sporting than luxury

New BMW:
>Absurd power
>Full of tech
>Numb driving feel
>Luxury oriented

how is rwd + manual + turbo inline 6 worse, what's wrong with the b58/s58
>>
Yeah which one do you want to know about
>>

>what's wrong with the b58/s58
Whole thing is plastic
>>
i leased one for 3 years. not impressed
>>

Engines aren’t plastic

Nothing wrong with it but chasing revs in a naturally aspirated engine is peak driving experience. Turbo is more about big power and you have to change gears pretty much immediately as you get into the higher rev ranges. Naturally aspirated -> higher revs -> louder, better noises -> monkey brain likes.

Not to mention that a naturally aspirated engine is quite literally timeless whereas a turbo charged engine has a shelf life of 10 years before turbo maintenance + walnut blasting becomes a necessity

It's against the ethos of BMW ///M that they used to swear by, because they used to believe in high-revving, powerful n/a engines rather than compensating with f/i as it was believed to give a more direct feel when driving (while turbocharging was seen by BMW M as a way to add complexity and weight to an engine).
Emissions mostly pushed them towards succumbing to turbocharging and direct injection, and most just use their cars to do highway pulls at this point so it's also an easier way to make power and have good performance on the spec sheets (while letting wrenchlets plug in tunes to make even easier power until their motor pops).

What's so special about BMW engines?

More like luxury marketed, they ride like shit.
Also their start-stop is truly terrible.
>>
Seats too low, had to shift them back really far. It was a 5 series and it took up all the rear legroom and I'm not even tall. Their diesels are pretty good, especially 6 cylinders.
>>
>>28644154
utter mediocrity.
they are fleet cars for middle managers. Only Americans think they're 'luxury', because they're classless mutts.

The majority of people I see in BMW are pajeets and mudslims. Most of the well off white people I see are driving mercs, jags and Range Rovers.
>>
Yes, I tailgated an AMG GT Black series in my Uninsured E90 330d the other day.
Could have been a life changing experience in a chink mobile.
>>
e34 520i was fun
e39 530d was boring
e36 320i convertible was nice with the roof down but otherwise boring and slow

I only drive cars that aren't MONSTER TRUCKS thougheverbeit bmaooooo!!

Just kidding. Thank fuck that brown retard is gone.

owned 4 cars so far, all over 100k miles. A 2005 Subaru, 2000 Avalon, 2007 accord, 2016 340i. Subaru fell apart 18k miles after I bought it, the only nice thing about it was that it fit my surfboard. Avalon was great, rode smooth, had a front bench seat, and was overall very comfy. It had some problem with emissions, but I hydroplaned and slid it into a rock about 8k miles after purchase, after I rebuilt suspension/serviced trans/did timing belt. 2007 Honda wasn’t very comfy but had the nice v6 and most options. 22k miles after purchase, transmission/suspension service and timing belt again, the tranny began going out, just like all v6 Hondas of that era. I put 30k miles on the 340 in 10 months, I love it. Comfy, modern, powerful, only repair that was necessary was the water pump that I could do without lifting the car because of the longitudinal engine. Also it gets better mpg than anything else I owned. Not going back to poorfag cars ever again.

They vary widely.

The beginning of my enthusiast awakening was when my boss-lady at the time got a E36 convertible and had me drive her somewhere. It drove like nothing else I'd ever touched. There was just an immediacy to the steering that made you feel connected to it. That 3 series convertible became my "achievable dream car."

Fast forward a few years and my Z3 Coupe fell into my lap. After getting it fixed up and running I was in love within the first quarter mile. It's small, nimble, quick, and everything feels manual and connected.
Test drove a 330i ZHP and that was amazing.

That being said, I test drove a E39 530i and wasn't impressed. It had really slow steering compared to the 3 series or Z3.
E85 Z4 sDrive35i felt like an Accord with more power and rear-wheel drive.
M240i I only got to take around the dealer parking lot since it was waiting for safety, but it felt like a bathtub, the window sill plastic trim felt cheap, and I couldn't tell where my right front corner was.
