This generation is aging way better than the S550 onwards. Definitely a future classic.
>>28644160Totally subjective here but imo the S550 is a bit of a high water mark. Brought a lot to the table that is going to keep it relevant for a very long time even more so than the new S650 generation. >IRS for the whole lineup, not just the Cobra>Gen 2 & 3 Coyote, both of which respond fantastically to mods both N/A and forced induction. Yes the 197 got the 1st gen right at the tail end of production, but had the 4.6 through a majority of it’s production run>A decent modern auto option for the 18+ cars, 10r80 >Shelby models that are already classics at this rate, especially the GT350The S550 is not without its issues, but it really brought the Stang into the modern era and put up a good fight to the Camaro and Mopars. >t.Charger owner
S197 Shelby Supersnake is peak Mustang.
not really, the s550 with gen3/gen4 coyotes are absolute beasts with the 10 speed.
>>28644160Agreed but it could also just be early Zoomer rose tinted glasses. I'm noticing as someone approaching my 30s that I find all the cars from the late 00s to early 10s super desirable. I don't know how old you are but it could very well be a case of rose tinted glasses.
>>28644239Yep S550 is legitimately peak mustang in terms of styling and performance. S650 has slightly better performance but took a nosedive in terms of styling lol.
>>28644266I'm 22 and it's not really the exterior that makes me nostalgic, but the plasticslop interior of these early 2000s cars.
>>28644266I have no particular nostalgia for these cars as I'm not a Ford guy, Chevy4Lyfe and all. I just got to see a later S197 in the wild and was surprised how well it held up in styling. >>28644239 and >>28644257 are right that the S550+ are much, much more performant and will hold up better in that regard, this is indisputable. But the styling of the S197 is holding up really well, much better than other early 2010 sports cars and may arguably hold up better than the S550's much more generic "sports-car" styling. I mean it makes sense, the S197 is literally based on the Gen1 mustang.
>>28644160>Definitely a future classic.I agree, it hits all the retro styling cues right in the same way that the modern Challenger did IMO. Of course newer ones are better in performance, everyone knows that. It's like the Fox Body Mustang, in the last 5 years or so they went from cheap shitboxes to full-on collector cars that people are paying more for than an S550, despite barely making around 225hp stock. It's not all about performance, as much as I'd argue you can easily make any V8 Mustang faster. Give it a few years and it'll be nostalgic zillennials buying the S197 and similar cars up (you can currently still get them relatively cheap off boomer 1st and 2nd owners).
>>28644270Genuinely curious here, where have you heard that the S650 is faster? Everything I’ve seen online generally echos the opposite. I’ve driven several S550 cars but no S650s so I’m going purely off of videos and discussions. Seems to me that the general sentiment is that the S650 is a bit of a dud in the performance and looks department so far. That’s not to say it won’t change that later down the line.
>>28644266Dunno anon, I’m 43 and cars from that era just seem to be what cars “should” be. They were the last generation to look like cars on the interior before the iPad-ification took hold. They were far better built than the new crop of disposable 75k mile car like objects.Oddly enough I just got a 2010 gt convertible; the interior is almost perfect(minus a couple of $60 door panel inserts) paint is perfect, no rust, no oil burning etc. 85k miles. That’s not something a 2020+ mustang could pull off. It does have an after market head unit with CarPlay, but super well integrated, so it’s got everything I wanted (NA, manual, v8, convertible) for $12k. Meanwhile that very basic checklist would be like 45k in a new one.. it’s bonkers.Does suck not having the 5.0, but I’d wager that is a good thing for reliability; the bros who’d beat a mustang to death wouldn’t even look at the 2010 due to the 3v.
>>28644160I think the S550 is the better all around car, but the facelifted S197 has a much better looking front end, which was always the S550's weakest point design-wise.
>>28644303As a person who's in the market for a 5.0 S197 for the styling and gave up: they're priced too strong. $15-24k on average, once you hit the $20s you're getting yourself into a Gen 2 Coyote S550. Anything on the low end of that scale is clapped or auto. Usually 120k+ miles too.You can buy a base S550 for the same price as a S197 with decent options/spec, often the same miles too. I gave up and went for a 2016 WRX STI with 73k miles for $16k instead sold by a local Subaru shop with a recent motor and new clutch put in.
13-14 looks better from the outside but there's just no helping that godawful interior. Ford interiors from 2001-2014 are some of the worst in the industry.
>>28644312It went from 450hp to 480hp, with the gen 4 coyote.
>>28644312>>28644483In terms of modding/aftermarket i have no idea which is more capable, i am assuming both are very capable with twin turbos/e85/catless
>>28644475I find the interior in my '12 Stang quite adequate honestly. Its not luxury, but its not the plastic fantastic of the 2000s.
>>28644475The S650 is also heavier so that’s a bit of a wash. Time will tell if it’s as good of a platform as the S550 was.
>>28644483There's the S550 ford performance pack with the gt350 intake that takes it to 480hp, which afaik is the same set up as the Mach 1 and S650
>>28644603Well there's the dark horse s650 with 500hp
why does the speed matter ?when people say. i want a 5 speed and not a 7 speed. what does that even mean ?
>>28645185speed = gears5 speed = 5 gear transmission
>>28644160i like the 6th generation more. the rear end of this one is too weird.
>>28644160I like the super snake more.
>>28644160they're like the Toyota Camry of sports cars. No one cares what trim you get because you're next to at least 2 of them at any given time in traffic. It all blurs together.
>>28645346>No one cares what trim you getWhen they see that snake, they care a lot heh
>>28645590yeah cause it covers up the ford logo
>I KNOW WHAT I GOT NO TIRE KICKERSkill yourself
>>28644266High end euro cars from that period were absolutely bonkers and indeed are super desirable. Hell, even econoco cars still had some mad trim level.
>>28645590only other mustang faggot care. Laughing my ass off when I pulled up to a company even. Sales guy got a new Cobra and I parked next to him in my new ND2 Miata. Every one circling my car in the lot and ignoring his wondering who's it was and then asking me how I got a raise for something like that.
>>28646327nice story normies never care what car you have lol
>>28644270>peak mustang in terms of stylinglollmao
If Wal-Mart was a car.
>>28644160I like my 550 more
>>28646389the boomerbait style is cool and all, but it's NEVER going to increase in value, gramps.
>>28645591There aren't any ford logos on a GT
