Volkswagen is a failed brand. They gave up after the Touareg didn't sell in America (and it didn't sell because they cheaped out and used an ultra-heavy steel chassis instead of an aluminum one). They realized "Porsche" which is just tarted up VW's usually on RWD platforms makes much more money and they can sell individual options for thousands each to fools with more money than taste who want branding and prestige so they just gave up on VW and Audi and the only cars they even half-try on are Porsche still and even then Porsche is an ULTRA conservative brand and so it's pretty muted. They clearly have the capacity for high fashion designs, but they gave up. Dieselgate didn't help but that was regulators' fault for making diesel regulations too strict and requiring expensive urea refills super often (every few thousand miles if you tow), and everyone else who sold diesels was cheating too .Have you seen the "new" audis? No new platforms for combustion models (PPC is not new its a revised MLB version 3), interiors are slightly nicer VW spec and the current VW spec is dismal and corporate.
