Who the fuck at Mercedes was retarded enough to sign off on this? Operating temperature is almost 3/4 up the gauge, not in the center or slightly below center like the entire rest of the car industry. Unironically undrivable.

sometimes i forget the autism meme isn’t actually a meme for this website

absolutely disgusting

>>
>>28647480
Its actually right in the middle if you look at the scale in total.
>>
>>28647620
Then the H should be at the end of the scale, not before it with the needle sitting closer to the H and not centered between the C and H
>>
>>28647620
This
>>28647631
Retard that doesnt understand the purpose of a gauge.
>>
Same as if the RPM needle is at 4k rpm when operating in the middle of the total range of 0 - 8k rpm. It would have the exact same angle as the temp needle. Think a little

the needle literally doesn't move until your engine has already exploded, the miats temp gauge is literally the most useless in existence

>I want my gauge to be horrible and meaningless
>it should statt to overheat when it's at 3/4 of the way to the red
The gauge you're complaining about is unironically a much better scale than the trash you prefer.
>>
>>28647672
Mine has moved just a little past center and confirmed to match just above 207° where the fans come on with OBDII data, skill issue.
>>28647720
>horrible and meaningless
Cool strawman bro, not what I said. I want operating temperature to be centered between C and H, and C and H to be on either end of the scale. Not the H just randomly placed somewhere between operating temperature and the end of the scale. You seem to have this confused with talking about the gauge mechanicals where it's merely the print of the gauge face I'm pissing and moaning about.

It's placed so that when you hit H you know you need to pull over, instead of arbitrarily at the end of the scale long after you already melted your fucking engine
>>
>>28647877
>closer to the H than the C
disgusting
>>28647884
Or, if operating temperature was just clearly in the center, if you weren't retarded you could just see the gauge anywhere "past center" and pull over.
>>
>>28647653
Lol.
So you think as long as its not on the bar at the H its safe?

Tell me....
What does basically every tach look like (?)
Now ask yourself why it looks like that.
Then think about your temp gaige and OPs temp gauge.
Then formulate a response and post it.

if your gauge just has C and H with no actual units of measurement then it is made for women and should not be used as an example of a correctly made gauge. your entire premise is wrong and you should be embarrassed for having made this thread and spent this much time and effort arguing your position.
>>
>>28648042
Yes, so they should be replaced as preventative maintenance. I do it with each timing belt at the recommended 60k interval.

iirc only the '89 (and '90?) miats had a real temp gauge and you can modify the one on later cars to work like anon thinks it does, but from factory it's literally an idiot light for the coolant temp sensor and not an actual thermometer.

It clearly isn't when I have watched it reading accurately past the center when it ran a little hotter when I had the undertray off in the summer. You're probably thinking of the oil pressure gauge that is a dummy on later NA6 and up.

Up 'til '94 miatas had real temp guages. My '95 had the "dummy" on/off switch one but many people swap to real ones and it's cheap to do.
My Subaru just has a blue light that is on when the water temp is below some threshold, I've got a ScanGuage II that tells me exact digits though (pic not mine).

Why does it look that way?

what actually bothers me is my wife's car fuel gauge
its far from being linear
full to half ~300 miles
half to empty ~100 miles

fucking lazy engineers didtn bother to correct it for the shape of the gas tank

>>28648050
anyway I prefer the womans gauge
oh no temp is 5 degrees higher than usually
what are you going to do anyway? Replace random parts that might be broken?

it's mind boggling to me to read the second half of this post on a forum for car enthusiasts.
>>
>>28648631
Well I had a car with an actual temp gauge and it just gave me a headache
Its normal that the coolant temp is not always exactly the same
So I dont care when it moves around a little

good luck with that ass clenching everyime you look at your gauges and spot one being all the way over to one side or the other

I liked the 90s/00s Lexus cluster. Kinda like a watch.
>>
>>28647889
Operating temperature of 100C is closer to overheating (120C) than cold (25C) especially with the equal distance hash marks.

>>
>>28649383
If you have a truck or suv that you use for towing you’ll want to monitor your transmission temps. If you also do a lot of off road activity you’ll likely want to monitor your transmission temps so it’s not getting too hot.

MIne still works, but I heard it's easy to repair it, since the only things that fail are the stepper motors and backlight bulbs. I did the bulbs in other panels and the hardest part was to order them from the US.
>>
>>28649383
>don't care about the temperature of the fluid
>don't care about changing the fluid

>>28649688
Any transmission could benefit from such gauge, I mean, car trannies ACK themselves all the time. Most cars don't have anything besides "TRANS OVERHEAT" message, and that one is usually set too high.
>>
>>28647480
That is just below half way up the gauge?
