Why does everyone have a car payment?

I spent $9k australian on a used Honda Jazz (fit for americans) a few years ago, and people at work keep making fun of me for having such an old car. Every other car in the parking lot is less than five years old, almost everyone has least their car through maxxia because we get a government discount on leases.

https://www.maxxia.com.au/car-offers?sort=price-low-high

People keep pushing me to get one of these cars but the math just doesn't seem to work for me. Every single co-worker it's telling me that I am missing out by not upgrading to a leased car, and my boss is calling my Jazz unprofessional.

My car payment is $0. My insurance is $80 a month full coverage.
>>
>>28647481
Ignore them. And if your boss wants you to change vehicles tell him to give you a fucking company car.
>>
>>28647481
Mines $320 (USD)
>have 2014 fusion titanium, completely paid off. 165k miles, but looks/runs great
>get sideswiped by retard cunty doordashing faggot
Now I drive a 2010 mustang gt. Made a mistake in replacing the fusion with a 2011 135i that was completely clapped out; traded it in for the mustang due to mounting potential repair bills (oil burning, water pump, leaks, etc). Took a 6k negative equity hit.
Mustang is in perfect shape at least; no oil burning, manual transmission, pristine paint/interior, zero misfires excellent service record etc. (v8, N.A.; so with oil changes it should outlive me)
>>
>>28647498
The car payments on that website are Weekly, btw
>>
>>28647509
Kek, 320 a month :) I have great credit and a good salary, despite how my tale of woe sounds.
>>
>>28647509
Oh. My bad , didn’t check the website. When a lender wants weekly payments you know they’re raping you. Here in the US it’s mostly brown people and the white trash women they impregnate that fall into those scams.
>>
>>28647520
Everything is so expensive in Australia that things are listed weekly because it makes it seem less terrible.
>>
Eurofag here with 2016 Ford Mondeo 2.0tdci, paid off, 0€ debt. Car just turned over 100k km, barely broken in. Plan to enjoy it for the next 10 more years at least, if it doesn't start falling apart.

I would say fuck all of them, let them be slaves. Nothing better then a paid off car with zero problems, and low mileage/km
>>
>>28647481
Depending on what you do for a living, they might be right. You wouldn't go to a meeting wearing a stained tshirt and shoes with a pinky toe sticking out, you wouldn't go in a crappy beater either. Of course if he's not paying for a company car then it's not your problem but factoring in potential customer's first impressions of you might be worth $200 bucks a month.
Imagine you did decide to go to a dealership to look at a new car and you see the salesman hop out of a 2011 Nissan Altima bubbly window tint and a space saver. You're gonna think "I'm not buying a car from this fucking guy"

Nigger, my youngest car is older than 4chan. Your coworkers and boss are just NPC cattle who can't stand the idea of not needing to have the latest thing. A used car is better than a gay leased nucar because you actually own it. Even better if it was built pre 2004.
>>
>>28647481
0 euros a month because I don't own a car. I'm in a market for one right now but haven't found the right deal. But once I find it I will still have a 0 euro payment because I'll pay it full in cash.

I paid off it immediately, like 15k Euro. I make good money but even then would never lease a car. The mathematics almost never make it wortwhile. You will in three years time spend 150k Euro on the car, and you'll still be cucked on how many miles you can drive it per year too

Meanwhile if you buy a car for that money, you can easily resell it in 3-4 years time with a value depreciation a fraction of the money you've spent on leasing. This is of course assuming it's not a brand new car. But nobody buys a brand new car privately owned.
>>
>>28647481
2015 auris, €0, €35 per month insurance, €300 for fuel and about €400 average per service twice a year
i am very much wanting to buy a new car for a more comfy ride but cant justify the cost
>>
3600/month. 4.5% at 36 months. Could've paid in cash but bought stocks instead. Cheap debt is based.
>>
>>28647590
One day this stupid life hack to acquire free money for no work will end and we will all eat shit when that happens.
>>
>>28647596
Won't happen because the stock market is rigged and now they're competing for investors with Bitcoin. If anything the scam will get even worse and they'll start doubling money every year soon.
>>
>>28647481
>What is your car payment?
$0. The car is 15 years old and I'm pretty sick of it, but I like having cash a lot more than I'm willing to have a payment on an upgrade. With how I maintain it, it will probably last another ten years, and I will be ready to retire it instead of maintain it when it hits the 280k-300k mile mark. The only way I can think of adding entertainment value is adding a PIT bar from a police car and ramming things with it.

Also the US auto market is insane right now. Dealers ran out of low-mileage cars since no one traded in their new cars, so they're charging $30k USD for 140k-180k mile (225k-290k km) cars that are basically near end-of-life. Some of that is Toyota Tax, but they're trying to pawn them off like they're CPO off-lease vehicles.

>>28647481
>Every single co-worker it's telling me that I am missing out by not upgrading to a leased car, and my boss is calling my Jazz unprofessional.
People have seen me actively fuck up my already ruined paintjob by sliding around in gravel and ramming through icy snow, so they have absolutely no expectation of a new car purchase. They find a morbid fascination with how my car hasn't died yet.
>>
>>28647509
>The car payments on that website are Weekly, btw
All I noticed is that it's infested with cheap chink bullshit and Australians are probably getting absolutely fucked with factory-defective cars. I had to scroll 1/3 down the site before I actually saw a real car for sale.
>>
>>28647576
>The mathematics almost never make it wortwhile.
The only time I've ever seen it be worthwhile is frequent flyer zog who needs a car for a short time before redeploying overseas again. They can break leases without penalty under the SCRA. They just find the cheapest lease possible and just return the car when the orders come in.
>>
>>28647618
There comes a point when all pyramid schemes break down. This constant over-investment in the big scam that is the American Big Five will bring about a financial crisis to the western world that will allow China to finish us once and for all.

08 Swift Sport, no loan, paid cash, plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. I don't work in sales but at the company I work for they have a few company cars that the salesmen can take to clients if they need to be flashy. It'll be a cold day in hell when I spend my own money just to make my coworkers and/or boss happy.
>>
0 Euroshekels of course. I bought my BMW E90 316i in cash with about 161k kms on the clock
It still holds up well
>>
>>28647618
It literally can't last forever. Pretty much every company on the stock market is realizing this and NONE of them know what to do about it. There's no such thing as infinite growth. Profits will always eventually plateau. Then they freak out "oh no, our profitably rating didn't go up this year. we're still profitable, immensely so, but we're not significantly more profitable than we were" so after they realize they can't increase profitability by growing, they try shrinking. Instead of making more money, just spend less money. This is the phase we're currently in. Quality goes down, layoffs occur, services disappear. "Hey look now our profit margins are higher and investors are happy. This was a great idea". What happens in 5 years? You can't cut forever. At some point you still have a sell a good or service and you need employees and facilities to do so. You can't lay everyone off and liquidate all your assets.

my car payment is $625/mo (USD) but it's a short period for 0% interest.
I wanted to get an older car but the used market here was (still is) fucking insane so I went new instead.
>>
>>28647618
Yeah not sure how it'll all end. There's almost no pensions anymore. Most jobs have a 401k/403b which makes you put money in the market for your retirement. Not sure what people are supposed to do with excess money aside from investing in real estate and stock market.

Isn't "Auris" what they called the Corolla hatchback and wagon for a while? For some reason, they decided that only the sedan would be branded as a Corolla. This resulted in the Corolla mostly disappearing from a number of countries.
They went back to calling all of those Corollas in the 12th gen / E210 models.

It’s actually pretty simple every developed nation besides the US already does it. You just have stocks pay a dividend that competes with bonds. In the US that’s require a massive crash to make happen, but this is 100% an American problem, not one with capitalism.

It’s not the 401ks and pensions that are the issue. It’s USD being the world reserve currency. Rich people all around the world transfer large sums of their wealth into USD and then park it in the US stock market, real estate, etc. Because those are all USD denominated assets.
This is why other developed countries don’t have a massive stock market like the US, although some like Canada and Australia have this problem with real estate.

When I was paying (2013-2016 I think) iirc it was 200 minimum but I'd usually send in 300+ because fuck interest.
I'd have to dig up the paperwork to find how much my total cost of the loan was, but in the event my current car gets too expensive to maintain I expect to pay about 1k5-2kUS interest depending on stock market conditions.
My current insurance is ~77US/Mo, and new car insurance would be ~83-132US/Mo depending on model, the low end there being an Impreza RS (which is oddly inexpensive to insure, beating the Corolla) and the high end an EcoBoost Mustang, with Civics and Mazda 3s coming in at just under 100/Mo.
>>
>>28648059
My Fit is starting to rust out the rear frame. A give it two more years before it starts to crack. I cleaned and primed it last year before winter. I'll do the same this year, but it is time to get rid of my 2009. I just don't relish paying 25k for a used CR-V or 40k new.

Because you can literally buy a $100,000 car and be poor. Sure the payments last for years, but it’s only $1,000 a month when you make $3,000 a month. Any money issues down the road you’ll figure out later.

Take it to a redneck welder. Not even joking I paid a local guy $650 to reinforce my frame 5 years ago (live north east) and it’s not only held up perfectly, but the extra rigidity makes it better handling.
The trick is finding a redneck not some faggy body shop that’ll just give you all the reasons something can’t be done.
>>
>>28648093
That's unfortunate, but then I'd just get a better condition used Fit/Jazz when you're looking. There's gotta be more of em out there. New vehicles are an absolute scam, nothing wrong with getting something like a 2013 Jazz and calling it a day.

they wanted €700 to change break discs and pads but i changed them myself

Dealer service isn't usually that much more expensive since they're forced by laws to compete somewhat fairly. If the car was newer, it might even be worth it for the no-hassle extended warranty and getting that service book full of dealer stamps (a full combo often increases a car's resale value a lot).
He's definitely getting to a point where the dealer stamps aren't worth it, though. I doubt that car has any kind of extended warranty or anything left. And if that 10 year old shitbox still has some value, it's going to drop rapidly with him driving that much.

>>28648879
Yeah, "somewhat" meaning that they're required to share documentation and service records with independent shops, and can't overcharge too much or people will just go there instead.
The dealer's also supposed to honor the warranty even if the car has been worked on at another shop, as long as the shop can prove that all documented procedures were followed. Might have to go through the court to get some dealers to pay up, though.
>>
>>28647538
You mean sales. That's what you mean when you're saying image is important in your job, He needs to be in sales for that to be a real factor, because people in sales, interact with other people in sales, and that means they're out-compeeting each other on who's looking better. If he's doing any other sort of work where he's not dealing with the public, all his co-workers and his boss need to shut the fuck up and mind their own business.
