>Advocates say the technology will save lives, pointing out that Europe already requires limiters in all new cars. But critics see it as a dangerous precedent: the state taking control of how fast your car can move.

>Once activated, the limiter doesn’t allow flexibility — emergencies, wide-open highways, or personal judgment no longer matter.

Europe is getting this shit soon, or already on new cars as their cars use GPS and satellite data to determine the speed limit of your current position. The car will chime if you are any bit over the speed limit. Ignore it and it will shake the steering wheel. Ignore it a third time, it will force the car to slow down to the current speed limit.

2026 marks the debut of anti drunk driving tech in all cars. GPS is already a thing with modern vehicles and onboard telemetry (Both EV and ICE).

At least some comedy can be had when we see police chases at the speed limit. It'd be hilarious if LEO also had their vehicles limited. Would make for entertaining chases.

Here is how I think it should work:

>every car has mandatory GPS, and accelerometers
>all insurance gives you a score based on how often you violate certain parameters
>if you violate a parameter, such as turning or braking too hard, you are immediately notified somehow (in-car chime, warning on display, etc)
>this directly affects your insurance rates

Bam, solves so much shit. Want to drive like a huge faggot? Go ahead and do so, you will just pay extra on insurance. Want to drive like a princess but let it rip once in a while? Go ahead, your insurance will barely be affected.

Most people will start driving the speed limit, stop taking turns so fast, stop braking so hard, stop tailgating. Accident rates go down, car ownership cost goes down. And if that doesn't happen, it will just be the few assholes who drive like lunatics that will pay a shit ton of money extra.

I knew this board has been a lost cause for almost a decade now but damn lmao. This is an extremely slippery slope that I've been warning about here for years now, always to crickets.
"But don't worry", the sheeple say, "this is just for those reckless driving browns!" without realizing that they're next. In the EU it's already pre-installed in cars, meaning the tech is essentially already in a large majority of cars that aren't the 2025 Chevrolet Express. What starts as a device put into cars of what the state deems reckless drivers is going to end up as a "mandated safety feature" within a few years, I'll just name 2030 as a date. They seem to really love that year - almost as if there's some global agenda going on involving 2030.

I don't understand this one. Surely they must allow that as you need to do so on occasion to avoid collisions. I used to work for a blood services logistics operation (courier job but the cargo is transfusion blood containers). They had onboard monitors that would record these things, including hard braking, but it all just amounted to a report they assessed in a vague way to determine you either drive reasonably or you do not. I liked that job. Lots of comfy rural drives to small town hospitals.

Oh shit, not this again. America decides to test something but cancels it but then we end up copying it without even checking. Eventually they will fail anyway, the maps will become outdated and the mobile service of the car will eventually stop working. If you have ever used an old gps with outdated maps you know how bad they can be.

I'm already getting spammed with this shit that pops up on my dash for no reason at all. NO, KIA. I AM NOT DRIVING ERRATICALLY Also, when it's really sunny on the highway, and I drive under a bridge, the shade triggers an automatic collision detection warning, and my piece of shit car starts to frantically beep as the auto brake slows me down, EVEN THOUGH THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. I feel like everything just keeps getting worse
>>
>>28653380
this rarely comes on in my sportage
and the only issue ive ever had with the automatic collision thingy is if you are parking and there's cars going past you rapidly it gets confused
do you have the newer one with a camera?
I feel like mine all it detects is if you somehow wave you hand right in front of the instrument cluster otherwise it never comes on
>>
>>28653385
I got a 2022 Forte. It's a decent ride, gets me A to B, excellent gas mileage, but the dash spam is annoying. And the auto collision detection happens to me quite often on bright sunny days
>>
>>28653389
ive never really had either of those issues you should check with a repair shop to see if the sensor might need recalibrating
the auto collision detection thing where it wouldn't let me parallel park cuz there was SO much rapid traffic going past in the lane to the left happened at night
ive never noticed issues in bright sunlight and im super thankful all the ADAS stuff works the same or better at night

Wow look at that, two gen x office schmucks talking about how god damn awful all of the sensorino tech gadgetry is, all the problems it causes, extra expense, downtime, and neither of them will admit this stuff is garbage and a waste.

Years ago I had an uncle who felt all smug that his subaru forester had some kind of adaptive cruise control, but was then clearly dissastisfied with the two settings available being either too close or too far away, and having no option to tune it.
Now we got lane assist shittery that freaks out from worn paint lines, freaks out if you dont forcibly perfectly center in the lane through curves. Brake assist that freaks out from shadows and glares. Parking assist that freaks out from litter. Sensors that make ghost data. A dozen other bullshits.

All this stuff has actually contributed to is dipshit people justifying being on their phones while driving, and people as a whole being worse drivers.
Fuck off. It's all bad.

Instead of toiling away cracking video games, why dont pirates try to crack ECUs and get rid of all this junk?
>>
>>28653409
I think you are just stuck using only older/worse Subaru software and sensors. Works fine on my Kia. The cruise control has 4 different following settings, and I guess people complained the closest one wasn't close enough cuz it's REALLY close and I don't mind people cutting in on me vs tailing me.
The lane assist just seems to turn off randomly like once every 100 miles, not because of any clear defect in paint
the problem with the Kia system (the version I have) is there's no warning chime when the lane keep assist stops assisting
> freaks out if you dont forcibly perfectly center in the lane through curves
it doesn't care about this but it does have trouble following and slowing down for hairpin curves
I think the newer versions are supposed to be better in curves
>Brake assist that freaks out from shadows and glares.
never
the worst it does is brake hard if someone REALLY slows down to make a turn but is already out of the lane
>Parking assist that freaks out from litter.
it does beep if there's like brush nearby but it's not too bad, the 360 camera is way more useful than the parking sensors and once you have the 360 you don't really use the parking sensors as much
>Sensors that make ghost data. A dozen other bullshits.
nope
the only other flaw is if a lane veers off to the right, and there's no dotted line between them, it keeps right even if your navigation path is forward
>>
>>28652819

The car will chime if you are any bit over the speed limit. Ignore it and it will shake the steering wheel. Ignore it a third time, it will force the car to slow down to the current speed limit.
Most cars just chime once and then stay quiet until the speed limit changes or you pass over the limit again.
You listed all the things they're allowed to do to implement ISA, but it's enough that one of these things happens. Manufacturers have overwhelmingly chosen the chime, which is annoying enough, but can thankfully be muted in almost every car.

Some car makers have also been adding convenient buttons that disable all the nannies so you can delete them for the rest of the drive in one press.
Which is a nice thing, since the speed limit data is often outdated crap, doesn't update properly for winter speed limits, the cars can't recognize signs because of rain or snow, or even mistake random stuff like candidate numbers in election ads along the road for speed limits.
Hopefully the economic woes the car industry is going through will make them lobby for less automated crap that they have to develop, test and maintain.

The 2020 Corolla doesn't have annoying warnings except for the seatbelt warning (which is loud as hell). The lane assist stays off between starts. Infocrap's a bit dated but supports Android Auto, so whatever.
Maybe Toyota's dated electronics and design aren't entirely a bad thing.
Strangely enough, I bought it slightly used a couple of years ago and have driven it quite a bit, but used Corollas of the same model-year and with more kilometers on the clock now cost more than what I paid for it.

The hyundai i rented recently would beep at me while i was turning because my eyes moved away from the front windshield. At least i think that's what that beeping was about. one problem: car production has MASSIVELY expanded since back in "the day"
case in point: there were barely more than 100,000 E-body Challengers made in its entire 4-year production run, B Body Chargers totaled barely over 200,000 units

there are over one million registered LC/LA Challengers in the United States.
the infamous L32 Nissan Altima sold 1.5 million between 2007 and 2012
the amount of Ford F150s that exist is a number not speakable by human tongue.
every american citizen alive today could be given a car for free and there would still be cars left over. absolutely nobody is ever getting rid of cars without a full on mad max apocalypse scenario that makes using them physically impossible. there are so many cars that getting rid of them all at once would cause a far worse ecological disaster than if we just drove them. that cat is so far out of the bag it's running for president.

Anyone can order a tiny size, low power GPS jammer from overseas and use that in their own car. These are usually plugged into 12v outlet or USB port.
No high power GPS jammers so it wont cause issues for others outside of your own car.
