goddamn gm d52 calipers, anti rattle springs kept pushing the pads out. Anyone know how to bend them to make sure they actually hold the pad to the piston?

I've seen plenty of cheapskates who buy BMW M series whatever and cheap out on maintenance.

Luckily in my case the front discs were only a few months old, just flash rusted, but fuck they looked bad. I can see why people end up cheaping out, though, a full set of discs from BMW cost over a grand. Very glad I got rid of that car.
>>
>>28656757
who buys oem discs though?

>buying oem brake discs
the fuck are you doing. you can get legitimate track spec floating rotors for that kind of money.

I’m actually looking to buy a vintage late 80s e30(?) 2.8 liter inline 6. The parts are inexpensive and it has a sunroof. I know it’s slow by modern standards but I really don’t care. The interior looks nice and feels good. Those M cars are probably way faster but I like good and cheap (in terms of price but not quality). I’ve had fast and drain-your-wallet cars before and that’s not something I want anymore.

I did just to keep the invoices looking good for when it came time to sell. Most stuff wasn't mega expensive, but just seeing genuine parts being used on the invoices really helps attract buyers. The OEM discs are also a 2 piece design that saves some weight, hence why the bell hasn't corroded in the same way as the disc.

I was well aware of this, but I wasn't going to own the car long enough to warrant spending the cash for a floating setup; I'd essentially be buying it just for the next guy to get all the use out of them. My brother bought the front discs shortly before I bought it, then I paid £370 to get new rear discs to match. As you can see, they've increased in price quite significantly since then.

>>28657163
Nice! I think the E30 is a much nicer car to own, too, so much so that I ended up with two of them. When you say a 2.8, is it an M20 Stroked to 2.8, or an M52?

M30 inline 6 for the late 80s era e28 (got confused on the chassis codes for a moment) BMW 5 series and came with either the 2.5l or 2.8l engines. At least, this was for the US spec models.

Aahhhh, that makes a lot more sense. Fair, hope you enjoy it, they're really nice cars~
>>
>>28657468
It's either this or a Porsche 944 from the same era. Or some Mercedes w124. I dunno. Amazingly, I can find good quality parts for all of them and I know how to wrench and have tools.

>Cast iron brake rotors are heavier and provide better friction and thermal transfer, making them suitable for most vehicles. Steel rotors are lighter and handle heat better, but they are less durable and can warp more easily.
Thank you, chatgpt
