Where can I find the value of a bike. I was looking at a Triumph america 2002, with about 30k miles. Needs a very minor repair and then has some cosmetic damage. Asking price is $3.5k. Is that reasonable?

I want to upsize from a Kawasaki z500. I also want it to be usable for track (so looking at sport only), as I want to start getting into that. A litre bike seems too much, while some 600-700cc seems like too little. Seems like the Yamaha R9 is the best option here. Any thoughts?

In the same boat and also narrowed it down to R9 or GSXR750. With a side of 765RS and F900R. I want a wind screen though and the F900R would be a nicer road bike, but only has a 3.5 gal tank.

Ignore the other tards, LAR9P doesn't even have a usable frame and is only fit for #biktok pictures, any of the 600 supersports are good, but R6 will last the longest before you have to replace the suspension, brakes, etc as you get better.

I've heard that before from amerifats, here you are responsible for the actions of the bike unless you can name the person you pretended to lend it to, or have proof it was actually stolen. They also track you if you run from them even if they don't take it to court, your plate and license becomes "hot" and they'll pull you over just to harass and fuck with you for any minor infraction you have (missing mirrors, turn signals, tail tuck, etc).

Do you want track or street oriented ergonomics and engine?
Any street bike, especially the sport editions with upgraded suspension and brakes, is more than likely better than what you can max out any time soon.Track bikes are generally pretty awful everywhere else except on the track.

MT09SP is what I'd go for. Street Triple 765 is also great sporty street bike. KTM 790 and 890 are also great fun, but some of their engines had issues.
>>
>>28657290
Already having to be modified in MA/SSB/WSBK, nu-Yamaha have bad frames, see the MT-09 being literally infamous for frame cracking, even from factory kek. Yamaha is turning into a jewish brand that only exists to suck the cash from its loyal consumer base who will die on any hill so long as that hill has the company name on it.

Kawasaki makes new stuff, Suzuki just keeps the old good things rolling, Honda offers reliability (at the cost of performance), Yamaha removes the R6 and replaces it with a paralLEL twin CP2 that is now the engine for 90% of its roster using different names to trick its retarded fanbase.

The literal only reason for the LAR7P and LAR9P to exist while removing the R6 as an option is to trick people into buying these more profitable bikes. Don't believe me? They are still making the R6, its just track-only. So you can't even say that the R6 was costing them too much to produce, its purely just a money grubbing scheme.

ParalLEL twin and triples are just easier and more profitable to produce, Yamaha has given up being a racing brand, its just for LARPing now.

>600cc seems like too little

I want to use it for track riding, but still be able to drive it over to the track without having to put it on the back of a truck or trailer. I've never done track before, so maybe starting off with a track specific bike is overkill, but I also don't want to have to buy a new bike every 1-2 years as I progress.
I feel as though I probably won't be making the most use of a $400 track day if I bring my current z500 there.
>>
>>28657363
>but still be able to drive it over to the track without having to put it on the back of a truck or trailer.
Bad play, track is where you go to crash, driving your bike there is already a semi bad idea, but using your main bike is the worst idea. You don't stunt your main bike, you don't track your main bike. You have pet bikes that are made to be thrashed for those purposes, unless you like being nobike for weeks waiting for parts because your lowside broke your rearsets and shifter.
>>
>>28657363
>>28657383
Also I'm NTA.
>>
>>28657268
I'm probably gonna buy new and I don't think they make the cbr900s anymore in their lineup. At least I couldn't find it on the Honda website
>>

>>
>>28657363
You're not going to grow out of 100hp< street bike with fully adjustable suspension any time soon if you've been currently riding a 50hp beginner bike.

If you don't plan on riding on the street besides to and from the track, the classic Japanese 600cc track bikes from around the 2010 are likely your best bet.

I rode to the track because it was 10 minutes away for years. I got clowned but whatever
The biggest downside was hauling a gallon of water and snacks. My wife and kids would usually come at lunch though and bring me provisions.
I also would get a garage with a few people to keep out of the sun.
Smart play is trailer and pack everything but I’m not very smart
>>
>>28657427
>10 minutes away
Yeah no one else on the planet is 10 mins away from a track bud.
>>
>>28657427
The track is 40 minutes away for me, but I wanted to avoid having to put the bike on a trailer since it would essentially be adding 2 hours of setup time to rent the trailer, set it up, and return it the next day. I'm a rentoid so I don't have a garage to store a trailer even if I bought it. Storage space for water, snacks, small tools I'm not too worried about with a backpack, side motorcycle cargo cases.
>>
>>28656988
Thanks fren. I'm still like 80% tempted even at that price which is what I think was their goal all along. It's not a bad price, it's still at or below MSRP however you want to think about it (MSRP is maybe $500 higher), but holy shit the fact they tried to hook me with the first price put a sour taste in my mouth from even trying. If they had told me the first number I may already have done it, because so far if I want sport touring, the vstrom is probably my best bet without putting the price of a small car into it.
>>

tldr since this was two threads ago: dealership tried to sell me on a Vstrom 800 touring for 8599 OTD, suddenly price became 9999 when numbers guy who wasn't sales guy showed up.

idk if a touring model that can't do dirt is even worth that.
>>
>>28657453
In regards to what, handling?
>>
>>28657456
>>28657452
I'm not sure I'm sold on the idea of adventure bikes on the dirt anyway. Yeah, sure, they can do it, but if you want dirt get a dual sport. If you want mixed get whatever you want.

Anything can do mixed man. i've seen R6s on gravel with street tires do just fine. Adventure bikes are generally a meme off-road because they weigh 400 pounds and you get by purely with torque and throttle.

idk about those numbers but I can say that a tenere 700, the GOAT of mixed riding bikes, is 10,5 MSRP
>>
>>28657068
If you guys wanted to setup an R6 for touring, what would you do to it?
>bigger windscreen
>raised clip-ons or dirt bike bar conversion
>adjustable rearsets
>>
>>28657458
Yes, it takes away a lot of the "falling into corners" feeling. I also added a 25mm rear lift kit and lowered the front a bit by pushing the fork through the bridges though and that also makes a difference.

I hadn't thought about that. I thought about trading someone for an FZ6 or FZ1 or just selling it, but it's got Monatana plates. That might scare some people off. The Montana reg is pretty convenient, though, because it doesn't need to be renewed. This bike was only $600 and it's practically brand new.
>>

Finding the ones for wheelies is easy because all you need are those straight industrial loading bays that all the stunters use, but actually I want a really fucking big one to practice corner entry at a reasonable speed unlike the usual useless <20kmh Homojitsu drills, I'm thinking something like 70kmh or so. Just need a nice flat area without the concrete lamp-posts they love spamming everywhere in parking lots, don't want to wrap myself around those.

The ferries and railways have them, but usually have security guards, especially the railway ones, I'm going to check a couple of the ferry lots late at night I think. Perhaps some of the further out places away from most people might also leave their lots without a gate.

VFRs are awesome, specfically the 5th gen ones. However my answer depends on what you got already

aaaaaaa why can't I remember any of those companies that actually made good stuff like vinyl stickers and jet tags

How do you use it, just make sprocket and chain in a straight line going to the front sprocket?

I wonder too. It probably wont sell well because vroom vroom activates normie neurons more than vroooooooooom. The AK550 engine might be able to be shoehorned into something if you can weld.

Maybe. I'm not sure exactly what I want because this is my first adventure bike.

any Vstrom chads want to chime in and maybe tell me which bike I should be aiming for?

idk what you mean desu. break old chain with tool set to Break position, perpendicular to chain. crank secure it with the main bolt and then you crank the pin to push it out and break the link. I ripped an impact gun on it last time, yoinked that shit out in seconds

Chain breakers seem unnecessarily hard on the tool set. I grind the heads of the rivets off first then use the breaker in my cheap rivet tool set to pop the link out.

>I also don't want to have to buy a new bike every 1-2 years as I progress
If you want to get into track riding your going to buy a bike every year or two from clapping the bike hard anyways and if not a new bike, you'll rebuild the bike every year or two then. Also, you won't hit the handling limit of a z500 in a single track day

Reading the thread I've learned that different people ride bikes for different reasons. I have no interest in taking a bike to a track to ride for lap times but I take great delight in filtering through traffic at twice their speed.

Long day of riding with friends, didn’t even go fast, just were riding all day. Proper tuckered out, it feels so good to just ride even if you’re not hauling ass and practicing on improving a skill.
Every type of riding is so fucking fun, I love what this hobby has done for my life I’m so much more outgoing and happy now. I love motorcycles

Probably won't post right or anon won't see it but my bike has a hydraulic clutch that's uses a master cylinder (attached to the clutch handle) and slave cylinder (attached to the engine). The ring collapsed and got gunked some how. Engine oil doesn't interact with it so probably just seals and spring dying from enough time in brake fluid but it was cheaper to just get another off a donor than rebuild

I would say that you should just use the one you got first on the track, Z500 can get ya quite far if you are just starting on there, but NEVER DO IT if its the ONLY ONE YOU GOT. I would go with a GSX-8R myself if I could but I guess the deals for used 750cc gixxers are good and abundant, so you save that money and put it on going to the track. Otherwise go find a low cc bike for cheap and run it like hell, a lot of R6 owners who do track buy a 2nd hand R15/3A first and put them through hell, besides some races being low cc exclusive.
Also what >>28657290 says about Yamaha is sadly true, they don't make them like they used to.
>>28657339
the KTM 790s where mostly the ones with issues since CFMoto was doing the stuff for them, yet now that CFMoto themselves putted out the 800MT-X model, they most likely fixed it meanwhile KTM took all the bad shit as a shield kek. Still fuck CFMoto for making the entirety of T-box owners be treated like shit.
>>28657471
ADVs are for doing both highway and dirt somewhat comfortably on either terrain, kinda like a SUV, won't do amazing in either vs a cruiser or DS, but it can get by with no problem. Imo KTM 390 Enduro R is most likely the closest an ADV bike comes to be in Dual Sport territory without being terrible on the highway.

Scooterchads always win though.

Is it too much of a gamble to wait for the bike I want to get a deal on it next year?
Really want a 2025 white TrannySlap, Two of the local dealers have 2024 models for almost exactly $10k OtD with discounts. I don't want a Black 2024 model, however. I don't want to pay almost $13k OtD for a 2025, so waiting a couple months and hoping they still have a holdover seems like the best option. There are 4 white 2025s in my area, one of them has to stick around past when the 2026s start rolling in, right? Motorcycle sales numbers are down, and I don't think we'll see a buying a frenzy soon. Should I wait, or should I just attempt to negotiate down the price as low as possible to get the color and bike I want now?

winter is the best time to buy a motorcycle because demand will be low so sellers would be more desperate to accept lower offers.
>>
>>28658109
I get that. I think I'm just a little bike crazy and cash flush at the moment. I'm down to only one now after selling my grandpa's road kang for a ridiculous price, and selling my DR-400 2 years ago for another ridiculous price. I'm down to just my 01 Savage and well I love it, I need something bigger and more capable, and I've been getting impatient everyday I head to work on my 24yo thumper cruiser.
