They do not like to be idled. To avoid this you must either disable the system by changing the cam out or buying a manual transmission car, which carry a 10,000 dollar premium over the automatic model and gets over 10 mpg less, so it's actually not true at all the V8 gets mpg anywhere close to the v6. The only way it can is by turning into a 4-cylinder.
