>Back in 2010 you could buy an Aircooled 911 for 16K euros and a S13 200SX for 3k euros
>Now the 911 costs 60K and the 200SX 18K
When did these cars go up so much?

There was a time back in college I would turn my nose up at a 240sx
>>
behold, 2002 car prices
>>
The prices haven't changed in real currency.
2010 gold price: 1100 euros per OZ
2025 gold price: 3950 euros per OZ
If you bought 16K worth of gold back in 2010 that gold is now worth 52230 euros nowadays. Meaning the price has only went up by 8K when compared to 2010.
>>
>>28659663
The one in the ad looks like a 964 which would have been a 13-9 year old car when the movie released. That's like buying an early 991 series right now and look at what those cost.

Supply and demand, and social media.

Amerisharts decided that anything they couldn’t have from new must be secretly really good so paid huge sums of money for Japanese economy cars, ruining the market
>>
>>28659843
>buy cool japanese sports car for $500
>trash it for a week
>scrap it
You have thousands of people doing it and supplies run low.
>>
>>28658818
New cars got shitter and more people started looking towards the used market to go after their dream car. Most of these people will keep the car for a few years, wreck it, then patch it up a bit before selling it to the next sucker. Do this a couple million times and suddenly there's fewer examples on the street and the value of your rust bucket shoots up.

The whole point of Japanese sports cars was that they were cheap compared to their European rivals. Now they go for new Ferrari money.
>>
>>28660226
>>
>>28660230
GMC typhoon sold for more than both of those combined.
>>
>>28660226
none of the halo sports cars were cheap. supra, rx7, 300zx were all expensive in the 90s and didnt sell well as a result
>>
>>28660293
They were cheap as hell compared to their European rivals. Mazda RX7 was 32K and was much faster than the 40K Porsche 968. (5.2s vs 6.0s 0 to 60). If you wanted Mazda RX7 performance from Porsche you had to fork out 80k for the 928.

money printing, cars becoming gayer, jews, cash 4 clunkers....
but mostly jews
>>
>>28660344
Cars becoming gayer did ruin it. Especially because in the 2000s Japanese car companies seemingly at the same time decided to stop making cool cars.
>Nissan discontinued legendary S-chassis cars, followed up the legendary R34 Skyline with the fucking Infiniti G35. I guess the 350Z was still good and eventually GTR though it's outside most peoples price range.
>Toyota discontinued Supra, MR2 and Celica in the 2000s. Didn't make any cool cars until they borrowed one from Subaru a decade later.
>Honda discontinued the Prelude, Integra, NSX and S2000. Only Civic Type-R remained as their cool car.
>Mazda replaced the legendary RX7 with the not nearly as good RX8. And then stopped making that in the 2010s. MX5 got a downgrade with the NC but ND fixed that at least. They created the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 but then discontinued them. At least they still make the MX5.
>Mitsubishi axed the 3000GT and Galant VR6 in early 2000s. Then killed off the Eclipse and EVO in mid 2010s and ever since then they make the most boring cars ever.
>Subaru kept making the WRX though it did get a downgrade in the 3rd gen. At least they kept making it but they killed off the WRX STi and no longer even sell the Impreza in many markets. At least they still make the BRZ.
>>
>>28660359
The G35 is better in every way than the 90s skylines that were low quality pieces of shit and would rightfully be recognized as such if not for the fast and the furious. I can’t believe people look at jap brands improving their shit as a bad thing.
Honda just replaced the prelude with the accord coupe and the integra was just a civic coupe.
>>
>>28660359
Japanese lost decade, rising crash safety and fuel economy standards all over the globe are just a few of the reasons why the Japanese auto industry got so soulless so fast.
>>
>>28658818
I can literally pinpoint the exact moment they blew up, the Gooding auction at Pebble Beach in 2012. I was in the room and watched as a pretty standard '70s 911S completely shattered the estimate and previous records and that kicked the whole air cooled 911 market into the stratosphere.

I'll forever be pissed about it because I tried to talk my folks into investing in a few when they were like $15k and they wouldn't listen to me.

california craigslist in the early 2010s was insane

all week you could find BMW 2002, Datsun 510, Alfa Romeo GTV and Lancia Fulvias for $4000-$9000

A Porsche 914 was a $3500 car all day long

Even saw a estate sale Aston Martin Laganada for $8000

>>28659451
Good cars never existed
>>
>>28660397
Yup, I remember seeing a Ferarri 400i for sale near to me for £10k back in the 2010s, Lancia Deltas, E30 M3s, R32/33 Skyline GTRs and Supra TTs were £7000 cars.
>>
>>28660397
I almost bought an E30 M3 in 2008ish when you could get a decent one for like 12k in SoCal. I'll eternally be mad that I didn't do it.

Drifters hunted down S13's and S14's to near extinction. Now seeing a good stock one is like seeing a snow tiger in wild. Because of this I think drifters should be hunted down for crimes against humanity.

>15 years ago this car was 16.9oz of gold, but today it's 17.5oz!
In that time I'm sure a few have been crashed or neglected, so the ones in good shape are rightfully a bit more valuable.
Much bigger issue is that your money is now 2 ply.

Yep, and we've all been programmed to be docile to them
We've lost, the game was rigged from the start.
>>
>>28660781
Sure a 300ZX or a Supra was an expensive car back then. But compared to their german rivals they were cheap. A 968 set you back 40K. A non turbo Supra that could match it would only cost 32K. And a turbo Supra which cost 38K would smoke the 968.

But then there were the cheaper Sports cars like the 240SX. Which would cost 33K these days brand new.
>>
>>28660580
I remember seeing BEAT e30 M3s for like $9000

To be fair they never got cheaper than that

Anything from the late 00s-early 10s

NC and ND1 Miatas, RX8s, E90/92 BMWs, S197 Mustangs, Mk6 Golf Rs and Mk7 GTIs, 5th Gen Camaros, C5/C6 Corvettes, WRX STIs (all gens), Evo Xs, FRS/BRZ/GT86, 15-21 WRXs, 350 and 370Zs. S550 Mustangs too if you can pay $20-26k.

At least all here in the USA

That's a 964 Porsche which would have been at most been a 13 year old car when the movie was released. At least here in Europe a 13 year old 911 coupe is around 70-80k.
>>

It's amazing how fast it happened. Look at Toyota/Lexus lineup in late 1998.
>Supra
>Celica GT4
>MR2 SW20
>Lexus SC300/Toyota Soarer
>Lexus IS300/Toyota Altezza

Compare it to 2009 Toyota/Lexus
