If I'm getting fancy brake discs they'd better be ATOMIC
>>
Drilled is a meme it just makes them more likely to crack. Vented and slotted better.
>>
>>28659043
this post brought to you by drum brakes
>>
>>28659063
most performance rotors are a meme. if you're at the point where you need drilled/slotted rotors, you'll know you need them.

Nobody on the entire board has seen a rotor split apart from being drilled. The "stress cracks" that develop around the holes are inconsequential.
That being said....
Drilled are stupid and provide zero advantage on a street vehicle.
Formula 1 doesnt run drilled or slotted rotors (pic)
>>
>>28659206
I'm just gonna stick with napa rotors
there's no benefit to any kind of aftermarket rotor for 99.9% of cars. even if you track your car regularly, the different is negligible.

some wrc cars use drilled* rotors, but they also have a pit crew that changes rotors probably every fucking race
>>

>Stress cracks
>Inconsequential

Brother cracks don't just stop. Drilled rotors suck, if you want holes in your rotor they need to be cast in.

because the rules tell them what they have to use
>>
>>28659197
slots can be useful for wiping off abrasive grit, but no good rotor is literally through-drilled; they are forged in place that way, or else it's trash
>>
>>28659206
Doesn't apply to Carbon-Carbon brakes anon.
you can't slot C-C disks.
>>
>>28659052
Hey that's kinda cool, do they make a semitic brake rotor?

I drilled your mothers cunt
>>
>>28659206
F1 would 100% drill rotors if they could, only for the fact that it would shave off weight.
>>
>>28659561
And reduce braking performance anon.
I doubt F1 would do that at all.
Holes in rotors are for looks.
F1 is all function over form.
>>
>>28659580
Even with the super soft, they still lock up.
>>
>>28659597
Anon, that's at lower speeds.
I can't lock up tires on my race car at 120mph.
But I can at 60mph

Also, super soft tires aren't used anymore.
7 years ago was the last use.

>>28659028
Imagine not having sicc drilled and slotted rice rotors on your shitbox with hubcaps

>>

hw did they make those holes then?

Y'all have no skill.
>>
>>28659023
nah i always want slotted only but nobody ever stocks them. then when i got to order they tell me it will take a month. everytime. some sort of jewish slotted rotor racket going on
>>
>>28659052
>ATE Powerdiscs masterrace
They just shred brake pads but its worth it
>>
>>28659023
how many horsepower does that add?
>>
>>28660372
None. But it helps vent gasses from very hot pads
>>
>>28659023
Now here's the question, does anyone on /o/ drive anywhere near the level that this would make any kind of difference?
>>
>>28659206
>Nobody on the entire board has seen a rotor split
I'm >>28659063
My boomer uncle who has raced spridgets since 1964 and built racecars for customers for decades used to drill rotors himself, until one customer's cracked thru the drilled holes.
Like this >>28659216
He kept the rotor and showed it to me but it was in like 2007 so I don't have a pic.
Not worth it to drill rotors just for looks. & nobody can show data showing a significant enough improvement in lap times or braking feel that a hobbyist track user would appreciate with drilled versus not drilled. Why bother?
>>
>>28660416
I melted my pads to my rotors street driving so yeah
>>
>>28660467
You need higher temp pads, a drilled rotor wont do shit for you, at the operating temperature of regular ceramic pads, (cold to 300f) the holes and slots are places your pad isn't touching to slow the car down

>>
>>28660375
What "gasses"?
>>
>>28660563
This, if your ceramic pads are gassing out, you don't need a rotor upgrade, you need to calm the fuck down on the touge because the brakes are likely becoming ineffective, you need to run those loud ass metallic brake pads that actually work at high temperatures, Ceramics are very good but they perform best when being used for commutershit like driving on cold brakes.
>>
>>28660467
I do know a guy who did that irl too. But it was because he overloaded his work van with bricks and was speeding down one of the bigger hills in town.
Dude had no thought in his head about things
>>
>>28660621
Kek gotta be engine braking down hills in vehicles, especially with a load, that's why they put tow/buttons in trucks, is to engine brake it, normally automatic transmissions wanna be in the highest gear, especially if you take your foot of the gas, which is basically like driving off the edge of a cliff when going downhill without engine braking, you will not be able to stop.
