What went wrong?

nothing really, something about racist cvts blowing up for black people, women and only working properly for Japanese and pure Aryan men.

They always had dubious quality (well not always, Datsuns were pretty good).
Nissans in my mind are like driving at 11/10ths - you do an awesome lap where you're cornering at the absolute limit but then you fuck up one corner and crash and the whole lap is ruined, then some guy who's driving at 9/10ths the whole lap cruises past you.

That's what Nissan build quality is like - they will make an awesome car or an awesome engine with all the latest and greatest tech which is better than everyone else, but then they'll fuck up one crucial component which just ruins the whole thing. Of course the shortfalls can often be rectified with aftermarket solutions, so the cars are still special, but it's easy to see why the 9/10ths manufacturers are doing more sales.
>>
>>28659421
Nissan was never really known for reliability like Honda/Toyota. Add to that shitty CVTs as well as selling to anyone with a pulse (including melanin enriched individuals that can't maintain a car), and their reputation was pretty much ruined. Infiniti has never been a particularly respected brand either so that wasn't going to save them. Maybe if they'd made a decent competitor to the BRZ or Miata, or maybe just made a dead reliable reasonably priced sedan they would have scraped back some recognition, but I think it's too late now
>>
it's not going bankrupt. it's about to undergo a renaissance, a re-nissan even. the new gtr will be developed alongside the new nsx, sharing a platform. and the silvia and xterra are gonna come back

jatco cvts

The french.

the bankruptcy is a nothingburger, they are coming back
>>
>>28659506
Anon, their comeback plan is hybrids and crossovers, and a new Skyline that will also be a hybrid. They're done for.
>>
>>28659421
Hondas bitch
>>
>>28659511
Toyota and Volkswagen have done almost exclusively that for two decades and are the biggest two car manufacturers in the world
>>
>>28659554
Toyota and Volkswagen are supported by decades of consumer goodwill, something Nissan doesn't have. Why would anyone buy Nissan's crossover instead of a near-identical car by Toyota?
>>
>>28659421
I honestly kind of like Nissan. I wish they would completely scrap everything they make that isn't RWD based, or commercial vehicles. But I know they primarily rely on Altima and Rogue sales to stay relevant so that would not be sustainable at all but it would 100% vindicate them in my eyes.
>>
>>28659567
Honestly they make the most interesting shitboxes. Juke? The new Kick or whatever the duck it is looks insane. Not good, just batshit crazy pure soul middle finger to the class.

Juke unironically is a good car tired of pretending it's not.
>>
*saves Nissan*
>>
>>28659426
>>28659502
Shit take. Renault was saving Nissan from itself.
>>
>>28659421
>What went wrong?

They got rid of the guy who already saved the company once before and oversaw the best years of the company ever because they got greedy.
>>
>>28659421
>What went wrong?
They stopped making iconic cars.
Silvia? Dead
Skyline? Dead
Z? Might as well be dead

Even stuff like the laurel or pulsar, fucking dead. Everything they make no sucks dick
>>
>>28659569
Juke is kind of like Multipla or PT Croozer
you either love it or hate it (and most hate it)
>>
Was Ghosn really doing some financial shitbuggery or were the nips desperate to get rid of him so they can take charge?
>>
>>28659830
>They stopped making iconic cars.
People forget that said iconic era of 90’s cars also almost bankrupt Nissan which is why they had to partner up with Renault in the first place. People are less inclined to buy sports cars now than they did back then so bringing back another Silvia or GTR wouldn’t save them from this situation (it would help brand awareness for performance a little tho). Besides, Nissan did well with just the Z and GTR in the 2000’s so not having a Silvia or Pulsar didn’t hurt them
>>
>>28659426
There wouldn't be a Nissan without Renault.
>>
>>28659888
He dindu nuffin. He did everything he could to unfuck Nissan but the japanese didn't like how a foreigner was changing the work landscape not only at Nissan but also in Japan (no more employement for life, etc).
>>
>>28660041
>>28659741
Shut the fuck up shlomo, if the price for staying in business is making garbage like the juke then it's better to go bankrupt making silvias.
>>
>>28660049
>no more employement for life, etc
That's an objectively bad thing

You can't sell trash to poor people forever, even Ford and Chevrolet and Dodge have cool shit every now and then to keep their image up

>get laid off
>find another job a few weeks to months later, with a 20-30 percent pay bump to boot
That's how it works in most US industries if you weren't a nepo hire or outright scamming your previous employer
>>
>>28659888
Nice digits. I think the fact that he escaped Japan hidden inside a cargo plane probably signals guilty.
>>
>>28659741
Isn't he the one who greenlit the extensive use of Jatco CVTs?

I've always heard that Nissan was sketchy when it came to reliability, but ever since I bought pic related I've had multiple compliments on having a "solid reliable car.." They mostly come from the foreign types though, last guy was Albanian.

I don't know if this particular model/VQ engine is the diamond in the rough or what
>>
>>28659566
>Why would anyone buy Nissan's crossover instead of a near-identical car by Toyota?
Well these days it's price. You can buy a nice Infiniti with decent miles for the same price as a used Corolla with 80k miles on it
>>
>>28659423
Doesn’t it get boring?
>>
>>28660910
the vq only really has one real achilles heel and that's the oil gallery gasket
>>
When your brand is ubiquitous with poor people it becomes hard to attract any other type.

Altima's or Dodge caravans without dents or damage are rarer than some limited edition hypercars
>>
>>28660920
>Dodge caravans without dents
or a handheld air horn
>>
>>28660797
He also greenlit the GTR so it cancels out.
>>
>>28659888
I think it was a bit of both. In a different country or situation he'd probably only be looking at maybe paying a fine and being forced to resign.
>>
>>28660914

they started using cheap paint on their cars so they looked like shit before you were even done paying it off, just kidding idk if that's the reason but it happened to my friends nissan
>>
>>28660124
Absolutely retarded take.

You left out that under Ghosn, we also got the GT-R and FM platform. Also the Nismo department was living up its namesake and the Infiniti brand was at its most relevant. It's very obvious to non-retards that from the time he got Nissan out of bankruptcy in 2000 and then Nissan becoming a total shitshow by the greedy dumbfucks that ousted him that Ghosn was saving Nissan from itself.
>>
>>28659888
Those aren't mutually exclusive concepts. Both are true. Basically greedy execs wanted Ghosn out so they launched an investigation against him and found that he was misappropriating company funds and resources. Thing is that the investigation revealed that it wasn't just Ghosn, but also all the other execs were doing the same thing. They even got the investigator arrested to get them to stop digging.
>>
>>28661308
The Infiniti brand was never relevant

>>
>>28660667
Back in 2007 this would be the fastest car on the road, nothing would even come close apart from an occasional 997 turbo. Those were the times.

Maybe I'll buy a Silvia now
