Add to that shitty CVTs as well as selling to anyone with a pulse (including melanin enriched individuals that can't maintain a car), and their reputation was pretty much ruined. Infiniti has never been a particularly respected brand either so that wasn't going to save them. Maybe if they'd made a decent competitor to the BRZ or Miata, or maybe just made a dead reliable reasonably priced sedan they would have scraped back some recognition, but I think it's too late now

Basically greedy execs wanted Ghosn out so they launched an investigation against him and found that he was misappropriating company funds and resources. Thing is that the investigation revealed that it wasn't just Ghosn, but also all the other execs were doing the same thing. They even got the investigator arrested to get them to stop digging.
