I need a new family car and have shortlisted the following options for consideration in Australia, intended as business purchase. The second car is a 12-year-old Jeep.

Hilux (primarily for tax benefits, strong resale value, goes off-road)
Camry (very jeet and relatively expensive for its features)
Honda CR-V (poor packaging in local options and limited tax benefits)
BMW iX3 (appealing for a business lease arrangement)

Thoughts? Something else: Model Y, used LR?

You're probably right; I don't enjoy off-roading just for the sake of it, but covering 20-30 km of dirt road at a decent speed to get to a campsite or trail head would be very uncomfortable in anything other than the Hilux on this list.

As someone who used to daily a Hilux, I don't believe those 2 words belong in the same sentence.

comfortable as is if driving faster than 40km/h and not being anxious about breaking control arm or getting a rock through the oil pan.

Subaru. Resale values are similar to Toyota and Honda, best off-road you can get without locking diffs, good visibility. You can pick by size needs between the Outback/Forester/Crosstrek. Outback xt's are turbocharged and both fun and comfy to drive, the Forester is kinda meh in my opinion and I haven't been in a Crosstrek yet.

for better or worse, the outlander is the last vehicle what's left of mitsubishi motors takes pride in these days
surprisingly well appointed and comfortable interior, can pull surprisingly high g's when cornering for an suv, which is more impressive considering its surprisingly high ground clearance as well, and in that vein, surprisingly good awd traction control for when trails get wet and muddy, too

Hilux is useful if you can make the most out of the bedspace and off road capabilites, and if you do have your own ABN the benifets are always a great bonus, but if you do have to do a bit of innercity driving it could be annoying.
If you've got a family already a bit of extra space is always useful as well, so you're leaning towards the CRV also consider a mazda cx-5 or 7, although that might be better as your wife's car.
Beyond that, if you want something very left field a commodore wagon would be sick, although getting any sort of tax benifets would be a struggle.

Camry is your best bet, but avoid the 1AZ/2AZ ones, those burn mega oil. See if you can find a cheap Accord Euro or something.
Your gas is expensive, right?

Nta but but out base is 91octane at around 1.75/Litre, so not sure how that compares to gallon pricing over the pond but i'm gonna assume not great since our goverment doesn't want to be self sufficient.
Saving grace for OP will be if he cane claim a percentage of expensese on his vehicle, including fuel, so long as he does the right paper work to get a good percentage between work/personal use of the vehicle he'll enjoy a good tax exemption at least.

Also, the biggest thing that will transform the road performance of any car is what rubbers you put on it. A 100 dollar difference in tyres can be worth a 10,000 dollar or more difference in car.
