>>28671700i've got a chrysler c body. the factory steering box is absolutely numb, you cannot feel the road at. all. you can get aftermarket upgrades to improve road feel through it and make it more responsive too. the cop cars got a firmer box, but the aftermarket options let you pick more responsive options still. you can get entire replacement units from borgeson for lhd cars that weigh a lot less and have a more modern steering ratio so you can turn quicker as well. it won't be as good as a rack and pinion setup, but it's as close as it gets.

>>28671755There was no standardization of gear shifts on American cars until 1966 when the government mandated the PRNL2D setup for government fleet vehicles, and it inevitably got used on everything for cost/logistics reasons. As you see here it uses PNDLR and back then people sometimes got into accidents when they tried to drive an unfamilar vehicle and ended up putting it into drive when they thought it was reverse.

50s-60s cars are a little bit of an asspull because modern gasoline is not quite like gasoline back then. In particular 60s gas was higher octane so modern premium was more like regular back then and 60s premium was close to 100 octane and lacks an exact modern equivalent--the closest is racing gas if you can find a place that sells it.
