If you take one to a show boomers openly insult you and restorers won't bother with anything that's not a 2 door. I just never understood this snob attitude against sedans.
>>28669055i have no idea except that it's an American thing and in Scandinavia everyone loves vintage sedans
Not a wagon :(If you get my gist.
Sedans have a lower survival rate than any other body type most got scrapped/crushed.
>>28669055>muh spooooortttt!!!>muh 20 trillion hurspuwrsss!!!>muh 5 bitches in the backseat!!!meanwhile me: wanting an outdated-out-the-factory 50s sedan, which could actually fit 7 bitches and one on my lap
>>28669079did he mention that most cars in the 60s were sedans with I6 or small V8s the vast majority did not have performance big blocks
>>28669055you can always tell what cars were designed as 4 doors and which were designed as 2 doors. the 65 Chevy was clearly meant to be the latter which is why the sedan looks kinda wrong.
sedans (and now crossovers) are for people between the ages of 30 and 50 to cart around family and friends. before 30 you get a coupe, and after 50 you get a 2 seater. if you're a man you'll also have a truck by 35.
>>28669055>>28669082In that time they often marketed 2 drs as for families with young children since the idea was it would prevent them from opening the back doors while on the road. As your children got older/smarter you would upgrade to a sedan.
>>28669055boomers hate being reminded of the car that their uncle molested them in
2 doors were the most desirable option for showing off at the time. Its like asking why people don't go for 1990s estate versions of M3/S4.
>>28669055>Why do boomersdont give a fuck about what these retarded American people think. Even with the advent of internet, they are just now discovering there are cars and machines from other places in the world. Its a good thing no one cares about their "classic" shitty ass 1960-1970s American cars anymore today.>I just never understood this snob attitude against sedans.you're just around retarded people. It says a lot about you actually.
>>286690552 doors are factually better than 4 doors from an aesthetic and enjoyability standpoint.Doesn't mean that 4-door versions of antique cars aren't cool, but they'll never be as cool as their 2-door variants unless you have some 4-door prototype that never went into production
>>28669132you've never been to Sweden. people here love vintage 60s American wheels, except we actually appreciate sedans.
>>28669093It becomes a symbol of youth that boomers are desperately to cling to.
2 door and convertible of any make or vintage is always worth more. Prewar luxo boats like Packard, Pierce-Arrow etc can be had cheap if it's a 4 door but the 2 door models are unobtainium unless you're Steven Spielberg.
>>28669055here's a 59 Cadillac. it would have been more common to see ones like this back in the day than the pink and red Barbie doll convertibles you see at shows.
>>28669210Good point.>2060>Timmy shows up with a generic restored 2011 <CUV>>b/o/ommers get mad about restored CUV>Timmy posts OP to 206/0/
>>28669055I always like the look of 4 doors better, maybe the 2 doors seemed too showy and ostentatious. I loved the look of those American cars from old TV shows from the 70's especially driving around in places like New York like in Columbo or Jake and the Fatman. For boomers I think they don't actually like the cars but "want to feel like a kid again" or if they get an old Cadillac because Elvis had one. There was some state in the USA that wanted to take away tax exemption from classic cars and some boomer was whining how 80's cars are just regular traffic.https://youtu.be/9oyMPdPqgs0?t=52Fucking boomers are horrible, my grandparents generation never did shit like this.>>28669182It can be real cool but they'll call it jap shit or whatever but if Jay Leno likes it then suddenly they will like it.
>>28669239The ACCA considers an antique vehicle at least 25 years old so anything made in the 20th century can now qualify as such.
>>28669239>Fucking boomers are horrible, my grandparents generation never did shit like this.Or so you think, except I've heard boomers say how back in the 70s you would go to shows and it was all old guys with prewar luxo boats and none of them would accept anything but, like, a 1925 Stutz as a real antique car and they considered 50s-60s cars just used car lot garbage.
>>28669239>and some boomer was whining how 80's cars are just regular trafficI saw an 80s Caprice parked somewhere last week and it looked quite vintage to me.
>>28669239that Torino was also clearly one designed to be a 2 door not a 4 door
>>28669239I don't think anyone is that nostalgic for or misses 80s cars.
>>28669239>It can be real cool but they'll call it jap shit or whatever but if Jay Leno likes it then suddenly they will like it.If Jay Leno liked a 92 Corsica they would probably start digging on them too.
>>28669055boomers do be faggots do
>>28669055Fordor is peak Model 18 for me.
>>28669055because they are desperately trying to cling onto their youth
>>28669055It's this >>28669079Despite boomers saying that 4 doors are doomed to be slow, most sedans only really ever weighed a few hundred pounds more than comparatively-optioned coupes. Slam in a big enough engine and you'll barely feel it. Most boomers are blatantly ahistorical about this kind of thing anyway since as >>28669082 said any engine over 300ci was a big deal at the time. To this day the 440 remains the biggest V8 Chrysler has ever made and the second biggest engine after the Viper V10. Most "performance cars" were running something around 340-350ci. The idea that everyone was running around with a hemi or a max wedge or a 440 six pack or a 390 4v or a 428 cobra jet is a boomer fantasy and a 4-door with a 350ci would have been plenty fast for the time. There are subcultures which idolize 4-doors regardless. Lowrider and cruiser communities love them. There's a whole boomer subculture for Impalas specifically too.
>>28669676>boomer car enthusiasts only care about cool carsThis is a bad thing... how?
>>28669678>assuming 4-doors aren't coolStandard /o/ bait. Both of my classics are coupes and I still love 4-doors. My favorite car at one of the last shows I went to was a 4 door i6 commuter-spec car, bone stock. It's so rare to see things like that these days because everyone shoves V8s into them.
>>28669091>manManlet*
>>28669055i like that the stigma drops the price of them. a lot of the classic sedans still look pretty fucking sick so it's a win for me>>28669058>>28669179australia too, people don't really care whether it's two or four door. if it's a classic it's already cool
>>28669680or, big block V8s when most cars had a small block that was mildly tuned
As he said although sedans were the most common body style in the 60s they also have a rather low survival rate as many were scrapped and not preserved like 2 door cars were.
Wagosn are cool too but disliked by boomers as mom mobiles and they're also heavy and kinda sluggish.
>>28669676>Most "performance cars" were running something around 340-350ci. Gas wasn't cheap forever and insurance companies caught on a lot quicker to "interceptor specials" and such than boomers like to remember. A 5.7L was more than enough, especially when it meant the car was actually balanced pretty well with the other suspension goodies instead of having a 700 pound boat anchor of an engine in front.
>>28669277it looks better as a 4 door
>>28669135>factually better than 4 doors from an aesthetic and enjoyabilityDo yourself a favor and shut the fuck up until you understand what words mean. I know that you think that you do. But trust me, you do not.>>28669179Hell yeah brøtherI think originally it's because some cars just tend to look a lot better in the two-door configuration, like a 68-72 Chevelle for example. That and the four-door versions were the base model economy cars that you would see everywhere on the road. It's kind of like how a base model Civic or Golf is completely unimpressive these days even amongst the faggot front wheel drive crowd. That said, times change, and I appreciate any vintage iron on the road regardless. They're so little of it getting appreciated or much less driven these days that I don't think it's really worth it to be a snob about this or that.Picrel it's my 89 vette I dailied for a year and a half. Currently for sale, NE1 want a v8 rwd shitbox? NE NC area. Anons get a discount, code word tendies
>>28669055They're floppy as shit. I'm not anti sedan but back then driving a sedan was like driving a pool noodle.Younger generations don't know this because of how well developed metallurgy has gotten. Coupes vs sedans really don't have no difference.
>>28669803Most of the Chargers used in Dukes of Hazzard had 318 engines as it was more common and the cars were lighter weight and cornered better when filming chase scenes. Only one of them had a 440.
>>28669827wait till you drive the pillarless hardtops. the more determined would add subframe connectors underneath to further stiffen up the chassis
>>28669803>Gas wasn't cheap forever and insurance companies caught on a lot quicker to "interceptor specials" and such than boomers like to remember. Also part of the reason why the majority of performance engines made were slotted into personal luxury cars. If you could afford the car, chances were you could afford the gas and the insurance too.
>>28669824you may cope about your four door car on your own time. real (honest) men prefer coupes every time
