In the US? The most popular jap econobox you can find because the USDM is cooked as I hear. Maybe Ford and Chevy are viable choices.
In Europe? Same as above + anything BMW 3 or 1 series, Volkswagen exonoboxes, Peugot, Opel, and several other EUDM brands I am too tired to remember.
t. own E90 316i and parts are still plenty(though it's not that old desu)
You can still find parts for even the E36. Probably the E30 too

This, the amount of money even a basic economical ass car loses in value means you need to be a millionaire to afford this shit, niggas literally spend $28,000 on Honda Civics that all end up being worth 3K at some point, and they'll keep buying new cars or leasing over and over, which means they eat depreciation their entire life just to drive slow as fuck economy cars that are new.
>>
>>28671842
Everything depreciates, even houses. Land is the only hard asset that doesn’t.
>>
>>28671816
Nah, but I have functioning brains.
>>
>>28671842
depreciation is a peak midwit thing to bring up. nobody buys a car thinking
>I’m going to drive this around for years and then turn it back into as much money or more than I paid for it
they buy a car with the mindset of
>I’m going to spend 28k on a machine I can use to make money and improve the quality of my life

I spent 18k on my car and I fully expect it to be as valuable as scrap metal when I replace it.
>>
>>28671842
A car isn’t an asset retard. Why do midwits always talk about muh depreciation
>>
>>28670278
Yeah, but just think about all the crusty boogers under the driver's seat.
>>
>>28671322

>>
>>28673323
i think he confused investment with asset? dunno.
but yeah if you buy a fucking new bmw for 120k, then sell it a couple years later for 30k, that's not an insignificant amount of depreciation.
>>
>>28673331
He's been screaming that cars aren't assets until he's been blue in the face for over a year on /o/. Even though they get labeled depreciating assets all the time.
>>
>>28673331
Why would you do that instead of using the car for less than a quarter of its useful life? This is the problem with thinking of a car as a financial asset. It is primarily a tool, and it's worth and usefulness as a tool has little to do with it's monetary value.
>>
>>28673377
fuck if i know? but it happens all the time; where do you think used cars come from? :)
>>
>>28673381

>>
>>28671416
The 316i has 100hp. BMW and Mercedes make shitboxes in Europe, it's interesting seeing them have a prestige image in other countries.
>>
>>28670767
I’m doctor and people generally get pissed and make comment if you drive a nice car.
‘Is this procedure making your car payment!?!?!’
>>
>>28673731
Well my point of reference was the used 2011 135i e88 i had for my last car.
It was a shitbox with 90k miles that I got for $9k; BUT it definitely isn't what I'd call an econobox.
(n55, decently fast car)
As for prestige, no not at all, hah. the interior was falling apart, it creaked and rattled, some dingus thought he was some kind of tunerbro and tried wrenching on it and completely fucked up so badly my mechanic told me to "run away from this car as fast as you can."
>>

Kek. Whenever I'm in a surgicenter I drive my sedan. If I'm parking at the hospital physician lot I drive my sports car.

Can't blame them. If I see a contractor come to my house in a ram trx with giant tires I'd think they're ripping me off also.
>>
>>28674468
>Having to take a day off work to dick with a contractor.

You are getting screwed over completely. If you had money you'd be a dude who writes the check after texting the door code to a vetted, insured company.

>normal people are not gonna like seeing their doctor driving a $2,000 shit box.
Normal people think their doctor lives at the hospital (and in many cases they're not wrong). They have no idea what he drives, as evidenced by the fact you don't know how many doctors drive 30yo shitboxes because they cba to go buy a new one

>>28673331
>buy a fucking new bmw for 120k
Imagine paying that much for a "luxury" car
>then sell it a couple years later for 30k

Just because you're bad with money doesn't mean cars are a bad thing to spend money on.

>>
>>28683781
It'd be sour grapes if I were stuck driving my shitmobile, but I'm not. It's reliable, it's rwd with lsd, good handling, physical controls for everything, cable throttle, hydraulic steering, good suspension, and it tows. The only thing a new car does significantly better is fuel economy.
Meanwhile the new car will have obnoxious safety features, will have a cheapola touch-screen, and I don't trust computerised systems to last.
That's even if I bought a very high end new car, which I would need to if I want to match or beat the driving quality that my old beater has. 95% of new cars are simply worse at this.

Also, I do have a new vehicle. My motorcycle is a 2020. I've also got an old 2003 motorcycle, with carbs, no fuel gauge and no ABS. I prefer the new bike's tech, but only because of the ABS. The fuel gauge sucks so much ass I'd give it and the EFI up to have a reserve tank back.

Complete newfag here. Am I really that stupid for wanting a new car?
I wanted to plan for the future and get something that can last as long as possible but as far as I can tell I'm just gonna get fucked no matter what I do. I don't know how long newer cars will actually last in the age of planned obsolescence, 3-4 year old used cars seem like they're only slightly cheaper, and I'm willing to learn how to wrench if I found a good older car but I still don't know what the fuck I even want

Scotty Kilmer may be king of the clickbait but he is a wellspring of knowledge when it comes to buying used
If you want something fun or flashy get a motorcycle, chicks are into Euro 125cc scooters (be sure it has seating for two) seriously, they're programmed to dig scooter bois

>power locks
fair
>power windows
not needed imo but nice
>power sun shades
this is the first time ive heard of this, sounds stupid
>backup or even panoramic cameras
not needed but nice, not a deal breaker either way
>rear seat climate controls
people in the rear seat can deal with my settings
>rear seat seat heaters
seat heaters/warmers are dumb AF and I will not change my opinion on them
>7,8,11,15+ speaker sound system
fair
>power adjust mirrors
fair
>powered seat and steering wheel adjust with memory
memory? do we really need all this?
>blind spot monitoring systems
surely you can lean forward to see the blind spot in the mirror?
>automatic rear gate hitch
most cars dont need to drag a trailer, when was the last time any of you needed to, that dont have a truck for that purpose?
>forward collision avoidance
keep your eyes on the road moron
>rear cross traffic alert
keep your eyes open, back out slowly, dont be stupid?
>radar cruise control
cruise control is something I cant trust, much less with radar
>automatic high beams
I hate these with a passion, learn to change the high beams yourself
>automatic windshield wipers
half the time they dont work, go back to 6 speed wipers
>heated windshield wipers
just use defrost and preheat the car in this instance

I got a new car this year and I want an old car again.
Really hate the touchscreens, cars really need to go pack to the 3 knob aircon.
On the plus side, cooled seats and 360 cameras are really nice.

My new Z has neither of these issues
Surely there are other non-cucked new cars?

My car is 23 years old. and everything on it just fucking werks. I've driven 85 on some pretty rough and remote side roads, and not even my circa 2003 audio system hitched, ever, while playing my CD that includes this, nor anything else.

*I suppose I kind of cheated. Adjusted for inflation it cost about 80K in 2035 dollars, but I got it for a mere 7k about 8 years ago, with 28k miles on it. I was in a hurry, but knew the value of what I saw the minute I got into it. I wrote a check for it and drove off without the dealer questioning it.

*Oops, 2025 dollars. Also, it's kind of fun to lose big trughs in your rear view mirror when on interstates paved level and smooth as a runway for 10 miles. My displacement is generally about the same, but my air resistance about 1/3rd. I can hardly feel the difference between 70 and 110 on roads like that.

it's pretty nice if your wife drives the car sometimes. she gets in, presses one button, seats in her position. you get in, press another, goes back to the way you like it.

Didn't think of it that way, being the kiss-less touch-less virgin I am.
Still it could probably be a van or SUV only thing where is it more needed. Or like a $10 addon.

This. I keep my trucks for 12+ years so having a nice solid vehicle that will last me a long time that I will enjoy is worth the money and depreciation doesn't effect me as much. I still look at the truck I bought 2 years ago when I walk away from it and I'm very happy with it even though it costed me a good amount of money.

Buy one with 15k miles that's a year or 2 old which eats the bulk of initial deprecation but assures you it hasn't been beat up too bad. Change the fluids often and sleep easy knowing its been taken care of since basically new. Do your research into the drive train of the car you want for the year you are looking at there are plenty of good cars still being made.
