why are they obsessed with hatchbacks? Is it because their streets are narrow af?
>>
>>28670516
Insurance prices for anything that isn't a 1.2 Corsa are prohibitive to put it lightly
>>
>>28670524
this
>>
They're common and cheap. Road size isn't the issue, it's the fact that we are a piss ant island that is overpopulated so parking is more often than not a total bitch.
>>
>>28670516
It's because that's all the poors are allowed to have
>>
>>28670516
They're practical.
>>
I could afford a bigger car, but every time I actually visualise it I remember how small the parking spaces are in my town centre and think about all the Chelsea tractors doing 15 point turns to get in and out because little Tarquin absolutely would not be safe in anything less than an Audi SQ7.

I like low stress driving and an extra foot of room to weave and park is a big deal for that.
>>
>>28670606
>q7
>long
wut, its a fucking midsized car at 199 inches long.
>>
>>28670610
Parking spaces are smol here, one good thing about my workplace is that they have burger sized parking.
>>
People here are obsessed with having practicality that they absolutely totally NEED which combined with the economy being fucked this last decade or so leads them to chase one car that can do everything. Hot hatches fill that need very well.
Other examples of this mentality are the obvious """"sporty"""" crossovers and those stupid "gran coupe" versions of cars like the 4 series, 8 series and A7 where the fucker wanted the sexy coupe body but REALLY NEEDED those rear doors, so bought the four door version that fucks up the sexy coupe body so you might as well have bought the 3 series/A6 anyway.
>>
>>28670610
It's 2.5 ft longer and 8 inches wider than my car.

It's not big enough to make it impossible to use, but enough for me to feel like it's annoying.

Then you add to the fact that everywhere has speed bumps here so a low car is annoying to use as well and you end up in the space where you get a hatchback if you don't have kids and an estate or SUV if you absolutely need the extra room for the crotch goblins and their friends.

If you have more money, you just get a nicer hatchback like a Golf R or Audi RS3 instead of your standard Corsa or Astra
>>
Britfag here. The answer is yes, plus >>28670524, and anyone with money spends it on things which aren't cars. Or, if they're middle class and tasteless, they buy an SUV, much like every other middle class Westerner. The average town's traffic is divided between wagies in hatchbacks, mums and old people in SUVs, tradies in vans, and then the remaining 5% is everything else.
>>
>>28670516
As opposed to truggs?
>>
>>28670524
cor m8 the 1.2 corsa is the big boy, practically a hellcat
>>
I brought up landrovers in another thread but 110s are common.
>>
>>28670524
Only for younger drivers, I'm 30 and I've got a 350hp supercharged jag, insured it for about £550 a year
>>
>>28670853
This. Hatchbacks are the most common but theres plenty variety.

Sierra cozzeh kept getting knicked, insurance went to several grand so car manufacturers had to event a new genre.

Hatchbacks are over now anyway m9, all about the cuckover and the suv (*warning may not contain sports, or utility)
>>
>>28670516
hatchbacks are objectively superior to sedans in every way
just like wagons are superior to crossovers
>>
>>28670516
They're European and hence gay. Picrel is Australian though.
>>
>>28670861
Where the fuck did all these GLAs come from?
>>
>>28670516
Gas prices in the UK are insane and most hatches are diesel.
It's not a choice thy made willingly.
Coupled with congestion charges that makes the choice to drive a hatch a necessary one.

Gross aftermarket fingernails, feet smashed in by modern footwear to resemble a pug's face. Tragic.
>>
>>28670516
we're not? the only people who drive hatchbacks are U25s because of the insurance jews. Once you hit 25 and they let you drive anything cheaply, it's all German saloons, jap rockets, jags, etc.
>>
>>28672352
You are what they call a mega gay

fits in the lines, what you crying about?
>>
>>28674293
I'm not exaggerating when I say that man is a parking God and I could not afford the insurance premium hike that I would get for crushing a peugot a week trying to match it.

Think about the skills of the average driver and you'll understand why RAMs are so rare here.
>>
>>28670516
crossovers are more common than standard hatchbacks for the average person now
>>28670524
just got to not live in a shithole. my MX5 was £450 per year at age 22.
And I could have almost anything insured for under a grand (chrysler 300c, v8 jags, etc.)

a work vehicle you can't use to do any work is the gayest thing I've ever heard of in my life
>>
>>28670602
How so? How do you fit a 4x4 sheet of plywood in a hatchback? How do you fit a 90'' TV in a hatchback? How do you carry a half cord of fire wood in a hatchback?
>>

Because Brits are subjects, not citizens, and are taxed as such.
