if i'm not mistaken those are the last mercedes to have a normal interior. nice car, enjoy it.
>>28672638bastard didn't leave you the house? I'd be fuming
>>28672647I love the fact it has a column shifter>>28672650parents live there
>>28672638If it's the turbo 4 pot you need to regularly check the timing chain. The tensioners are rather poor and will fail prematurely so you need to see ifbthe chainbis loose or not.The electronics tend to go to shit because the cables rot, rust or simply snap.If you live in a humid climate rust can beba problem since MB decided to be penny pinchers. On the cars equipped with bigger engines the front breaks wear out prematurely, but you won't have to worry about that. What you have to worry about is the 7G Tronic gearbox, which doesn't like any form of abuse. Follow the maintenance schedule (60k KMs/3 years) and pray. If it's the later model of the facelift it might have the 9G unit which is marginally better but still, I would suggest you keep on top of maintenance and don't trash it too much or hard. Overall they're pretty comfortable euro barges that are allergic to sportiness, the smaller engines tend to be shit and God help anyone who didn't buy the facelifted model.t.owned an E400 for about 2 years
>>28672747Sorry for the shitty grammar, I'm phonefagging and can't stand the shitty keyboard+autocorrect combo.
>>28672747>>28672754thanks a lothow to check if chain is loose?also are the pre-facelift cars that bad?
>>28673046As far as I know there is no physical way to see or check the chain without taking things apart on that engine. There are signs you can watch out for, like rattling or ticking noises, misfires, reduced performance through different spots in the rev range, rough idling, the check engine might be on with a misfire error code if it's bad enough but at that point you'd also have issues starting the car.I have no personal experience with pre-facelift models but I've heard some horror stories. As a rule of thumb when it comes to MBs in general you want the facelift model if there is one and you want their bigger engines. Not sure if they are not capable or not willing to build a proper long lasting small engine, but their budget engines have always been a bit crap.
>>28672747>the smaller engines tend to be shitNTA but I’ve been eyeing the E350 bluetec 4matic are the big engines more reliable or just less shit?
>>28673046you will hear rattling on a cold start when the timing chain needs to be done. at least that was how it was with my W211 diesel merc.
