Why is it none of the thread posters join any of the races anymore? Do you guys not want to race with your fellow /ovg/er? It's a sad state of affairs when races these days only get around 10-15 people, when back in the day you could get that and more on a Thursday series.
>>
>>28672912
It's not like most people that hang around mumble/mattermost show up either
>>
>>28672912
because we aren't doing gt3s at spa/daytona/lelmans

nobody wants to drive historic race cars from the 60s or fwd shitboxes dressed up as race cars
>>
>>28672912
10-15 ppl is decent tho
>>
>>28672959
Take a look on the doc and see the amount of people that used to race back in the day. Seems like post Covid everyone just left

are the first 3 midnight club games really as ballbusting as people make them out to be?
I only played LA back on the 360 but I'm considering trying the whole series
>>
>>28673065
yes
MC1 is ballbusting because it's a cobbled together tech demo, MC3 because it's got too much shit going on, and MC2 because Angel Studios personally hates your guts

>>
>>28673065
mc1 is difficult, not because the routes or opponents are fast but because the physics are BAAAAAAD. though that was the way to add difficulty at the time. you can see this same in smugglers run series. first title is quite easy until you have to get around the physics.
mc2 appears more difficult during your first playthrough because the routes are confusing and your knowledge of the maps and shortcuts are basically 0. on your third playthrough the difficulty will ramp down.
mc3 lets you choose cars so its difficulty is a bit more open, still pretty hard compared to modern arcade. the cosntant framedrops dont help.
>>28673077
mc1/smugglers run - instant restart
mc2 - short cutscene
mc3 - loading screen

all of this doesnt mean you shouldnt play them. git gud
>>
>>28672912
There's always been a group of naysaying threadposters that disagree with whatever's being run. They don't matter because they just wanna blog about their video game experiences they have elsewhere. Most guys that used to race here have other shit to do, grew older, got married, bought actual real race cars, became important at work or whatever. Remember our races are on prime time for doing something irl, Saturday+Sunday night Euro hours or around Lunch for Amerifags every weekend isn't exactly something you might wanna give up if you work a regular job and wanna hang with friends and go out irl. Average age of race entrants used to be around 20-21 so people had more time but less money to just do the thing irl. A bunch also decided to move to iracing or more recently LMU because that shit lets you race people at any point in time.

Tl;Dr it's natural that people leave

I did, like 15 billion times, I posted wembos and tried to convince people it was a great game only for beansprout necked lisping faggots to cry and seethe about the region-appropriate music and the one AI driver that is a comically stereotypical DEI insert. The game is technically brilliant and a lot of fun.

nfs unbound is hot garbage
>>
>>28673479
Ain't nothing wrong with that. Back in the 50 car field size times most people couldn't really afford buying every new game that came out and dealing with rFactor and it's shit was tolerable.

We did repeatedly but people kept being upset that three songs on the soundtrack and the story is total crap. As if that matters at all for a game best played online (and most of the soundtrack fucks)

It's not "The best"
But it's a great one to try, especially if you are new to rallying.
For the newbies it has good lessons, practice mode, freeroam mode to test and fine tune your cars outside of stages.
For the experienced players it has stage generator, so you can endlessly generate new stages and make custom championships. Why is this good, because you are never forced to memorized stages inadvertently and thus you never turn your rally into circuit racing.
Campaign is neat as well. Both modern and historic rally. I ignored all other gamemodes like rallycross and landrush or whatever they are called.

After you had your fill of dirt 4, you can go for Dirt rally 1.0 (cheap and easy to get)
or Dirt rally 2.0(better graphics, more content, but always online bullshit if I remember correctly)

we are friendly to friends
people who stand outside the bar and complain that the drinks are too salty are friends of no one

also having debates and arguments is natural for friends, just because people disagree doesn't mean there is animosity. what would be far worse is if everyone agrees on things and pretended all was rainbows and butterflies even if it isn't. That sort of fake "friendship" is not really practiced here. real bros butt heads occasionally.

as a matter of fact I do, if you join one of our races you will meet about half of them, they are all incredibly smart, patient, and kind people, whom I respect because they are strongly opinionated and fight just as hard for those opinions as they do for position.

your behavior is actually the unfriendly type, slinking in the corner and making comments under your breath about people who you are too afraid to meet. while I forgive you for having an immature opinion I strongly disagree with it and I also question how strongly you believe in it.

Fiddled with the gearing to be within the 5000-7000 rpm powerband in lower gears as best I could (I didn't feel like spending the whole night switching between garage and free roam because there is no gearing graph like in Forza), put on soft tires, went to the tuner, challenged her around the Ginza part of C1 with the medians, and she still pushed my shit in.
Meh, I don't feel like tryharding and buying an RX-8 to cheese her, I'll just progress the story and come back with something faster.

There's nothing stopping new people from joining and you will only be called a nigger faggot if you act like one, also we are all from 4chan why the fuck would that deter anyone. This isn't some reddit league where we have to race with pride flags, and even if you don't want to join the mattermost or the mumble you can still show up for the races.

these people you are ignorantly calling "complete strangers" are people i have known for nearly twenty years, with whom i have shared worldly culture and drink, the challenges and tribulations of life, and the jubilation of speed and horsepower. there are no living beings on this earth I respect and admire more than the regulars itt.

I have stood in the Daytona Trioval, shook hands with the Queen of the Nurburgring and told her I loved her, watched meme arrow Lamborghinis glitter in the rain all night, consumed clinically lethal amounts of Monster, invented a religion, blew up a microwave, took an Australian to Outback Steakhouse, watched a man die twice and survive, and this is just the shit we did outside of the simulator. If it were not for this thread and it's posters I would probably not be posting right now because I would have an actual job instead of whatever bullshit dead end crap will let me freely take off Saturdays to come race here.
/ovg/ is love, /ovg/ is life. I know the posters here like they are my brothers and I respect and admire them as a brother should.
that doesn't mean we agree on all things. it is the varied opinions that have us doing different series every time. it is a burning drive to git gud and do what we think is impossible BECAUSE we are told it is impossible that allowed us to figure out how to modify, decompile and rebuild a legendary old dos game nobody had ever done before.

don't tell me what friends are if you don't have any

In truth this thread is for people from /o/, who are already here because they love cars first and foremost, to discuss racing games of all kinds. the racing game is automotive artwork, and we are the highest of appreciators. this is no /vg/ thread, we were here before the concept of generals even existed.

the people that want to be here will arrive organically and stay here because it has what they want. it does no good to advertise on other boards, because if they knew they wanted this they'd be here and the people who don't want to talk about cars won't come anyway. There are a scant few who forget /o/ exists but they seem rare in my experience.
>>
>>28674611
4chan doesn't load posts in real time you dingbat, obviously in the time it took me to write that post you had made another I had yet to respond to.

What strangers? You? Am I supposed to lament the loss of a potential friendship with a person who dares not show up to races, who pretends to be scared of what other people think of him? who makes thru-his-teeth comments about people he knows naught about? Who laments the lack of like minded individuals yet does nothing about it?

tell me why I should consider someone like that a friend. why would I want to race with someone who cannot even straighten his spine enough for a funny fuck about no pressure series where we make silly custom ac mods and race them? what good is your friendship worth if I have to spend all this time convincing you to grow a pair?

get good doesn't mean you suck
it means surpass your limits
out there right now is an estonian karting instructor who did just that, he surpassed us all, and one day his name will be among the legends. what of yours?

I used to play on the /o/ LFS server in '10, but what you guys are doing now seems like a much bigger commitment and less casual. Maybe I'm wrong.
>>
>>28674662
it's literally the exact same shit run by almost the exact same people, motm isn't here but several people from the lfs, forza and samp threads are here.
the only reason we aren't doing lfs anymore is because it took the game over 20 years to get modding support and they nuked the dedi on top of it so it's not longer possible to make a pirate server AND you have to pay for hosting. shit is gay as fuck. Assetto Corsa is significantly less autistic than LFS and has endless custom content with free and easy server hosting.
If you don't want to make a car for either of the ac series there are premade cars available you can just arrive and drive, but you have to be signed up so we know how many of those to leave open for you even if you don't want to or can't show up.

I can't remember the last time a UE title was forward rendered with MSAA and didn't rely on denoising for shadows/foliage and other effects.
All UE games now use the same boilerplate template of lumen trash with TSR/TAA/DLSS on top to fix all visual issues and you end up with average blurry image.
What it also means is that performance will not scale at all. You'll play at 1080p, maybe 1440p on a modest GPU and that's it, and VR is completely busted in the crib.
I've got a buddy with a 5090 and EA WRC looks like a mess from the mid 2000s

fun is the basis of all that is good and worth doing in the world
why make money? because it's fun watching number go up, and you can trade earned funbux for more fun, ideally in a manner that does not make number go down significantly because that would not be fun. why struggle in this world? because life is more fun than death, taking on and overcoming challenges is fun.

if you don't strive to have as much fun as possible you are not a human being, just a soulless npc, and not only will you never make it but you have already lost.

austin's previous experience with women would seem to me to be an even greater indication that he would have been open to a less than professional arrangement for the right dollar amount

Has the goal of these moved beyond realism and and into gamer minmaxing territory? Real racecar pedals are so simple compared to this stuff. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult for max realism to rig up real pedals with real master cylinders to a pressure sensor. That would be likely cheaper than whatever this is. And why is the throttle ever more than simply a spring? You could even rig it up with a real throttle cable to a pot on a spring somewhere else for max realism (actually making it slightly shittier).

>>
>>28676139
>This plain isn't true. You quickly memorize sections because they repeat constantly,
Which only makes memorizing the stage harder.
And the fact each corner can have things mixed up, such as rocks, posts, camber or dips and so on.
Means you can't just take every right 4 the same way as the previous one.

Dirt 4 is the only game where I haven't inadvertently memorized the stages.

while that is true the vast majority of sim players lack fundamentals and wrongly believe that very expensive or powerful peripherals will somehow improve the feel of two-decade-old video games and allow them to get into the senna zone when in reality all they need to do is drive the fucking car. immersion is bunk, racing is a competition and all decisions should be made to actually increase your competitive edge, not just larp like you're good with a toy steering wheel strong enough to snap your wrists in a crash.

to be fair, bottom split iracers usually are physically disabled, underage or a boomer, or really just don't care about being fast and the autism required. LMU bottom split is a horrific sight to behold though, those guys are legitimately 10+ seconds off pace and dont care if they wreck you. when I got back into irenting after a 3 year break I intentionally tanked my iR to ease myself back into it and needed the practice. bottom split drivers there are usually pretty clean, even if a few seconds off pace from the higher splits.

I have spent thousands of dollars on this hobby and I don't regret it, but I can also afford it. Dave Kaemmer sometimes likes to play sick jokes on me and place me in top split since im now in that awkward cutoff point between 2nd split and top split on most weeks except when its daytona or spa for gt3s, so I wouldn't consider myself slow either

Ive seen hydraulic sim brakes. It uses a mountain bike caliper and a loadcell. not sure which brand it was though. would be pretty easy to convert pretty much any pedal setup . id go for an actual car disc/caliper/master cylinder though.
>>
>>28676128
without A DOF setup we are all just driving remote control cars. wheel or controller doesnt matter.the wheel is more fun though
>>
>>28677110
>wheel or controller doesnt matter
wrong

an analog stick doesn't appropriately represent how a steering wheel actually works.
in a car a steering wheel is forced back to its center position by the front wheels interacting with the road surface and the caster of the steering geometry. this means the true center position of the steering wheel can change depending on the yaw of the car in relation to the direction it is travelling.
an analog stick is forced back to its center by a spring that has no relation to what the car is doing, and the center position is always in the center, making it needlessly difficult to drive the car at its limits of traction since you can't actually feel what the rest of the machine is doing. the way to solve this is to do like forza or euro truck sim where moving the analog stick feeds the steering wheel in each direction, rather than being directly connected to it, but this introduces input lag and has to be carefully calibrated for the type of driving that is going to occur.
while you certainly can drive a simulated car with a gamepad, it's much harder, since you are lacking the feedback a steering wheel would otherwise provide. in some cases like driving vintage cars that require a lot of precise countersteering, it might even be impossible.
>>
>>28677079
the gear ratio changes the leverage between the engine and the road, you'll slow down noticeably faster with shorter gearing

you fucked up your braking point and nearly spun out, only saved because you are playing codies rallyslop that gives you fake sideforce and even then your stupid ass can't even stay on the road

nope
you stopped moving and went straight as soon as the car was turned because you are playing codies rallyslop and you can't actually get sideways, the game you are playing is casual trash and won't let you. you just stop sliding and go straight because all your momentum is killed by the babby helper sideforce.

Allegedly this car was real and shown off at a JGTC race for the year the game came out.

>Gran Turismo had an exhibition booth at the Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) for some time now, and when we decided that we wanted to display a car that most reflected our vision and philosophy behind the Gran Turismo dream, Nismo stepped up to offer us a helping hand. The result: The Nissan Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R. It was created using an R34 Skyline GT-R that Nismo had tucked away, to be used solely for research and development purposes.

beam's major failing is the lack of tire/wheel replacement without resetting the entire car, so if you get a puncture somehow you might as well restart the whole run. there is an app to repair bodywork and that's actually pretty fun, but flat tires and suspension tie rods are unrepairable.

you can press the camera reset button to change tv cams

>>28677340
beam's tv cam gets stuck in trees if they are too close to the road, it automatically places itself and is programmed to avoid obstructions but if the trees are too dense and the road is too thin it just has nowhere to go, so touge tracks and some rally stages can be challenging to get footage on.

Nice book bro. Im not reading all of that shit. While I do agree that wheel is better than controller, my point was that its no different than remote control cars. You cant experience any of the Gforces even with FFB
>>
>>28678153
irrelevant, the only g-forces that matter are the ones influencing the car's chassis, it is not important whatsoever to "feel" g-forces if you know they are there already. if you don't know about g-forces and need a simulator to teach you you are a busrider and a drivelet
>>
>>28677853
wake me up when they do a total conversion mod for the 2002 season. Craftsman, Busch, Winston. If they did that as DLC, and also add the teammate/rivalry system from the EA Thunder titles, and I would buy it. This is coming from someone who has pirated basically everything he's played for the last decade.

the g-forces are still there you fucking retard, a motion rig's simulation of gees is fake and arbitrarily calculated based on the type of motion platform. there is no full dive solution.
if you are a good driver you can internalize the feeling of gees and go purely by camera movement
only fucking brain dead morons who don't know how they would feel if they didn't eat breakfast in the morning need a toddler's bouncy chair to drive a fucking car
