Why do people on marketplace get so mad when you offer $500-$1000 less than what they originally offered?
>>
>>28674264
because they're massively in debt and they also think their shitbox is super rare and valuable.
Stay strong though. They will accept $1k under.
>>
>>28674264
Do you just message them saying "Hey, will you take $xxxxx?"
You're supposed to go see the car then haggle in person.
>>
>>28674291
wrong
you need to prehaggle. if you save the haggle to when you get there, they have the upper hand (you've travelled so far, you won't want to go back empty handed, etc).
you can always haggle further upon arrival.

The guy is almost 3 hours away. I don't want to drive that long for nothing. I'd rather get the money situation sorted out or move on to something else.
>>

I made an offer of 250 for a 40s or 50s chevy rolling frame listed for 500 dollars and he laughed in my face.
I might would've haggled to go 250 but without the 250 6/transmission cause I didn't really want it
but i mean i can't believe he was upset that I wouldn't go 300 for what is basically metal driftwood of a car.

I like bookmarking these and checking them occasionally to see if they ever get sold.

>person offers $500 less than asking
>say sure come get it
>they don't come get it

i'm pretty sure 99% of offers that immediately offer less than your asking price without any other questions are just bored retards

I don't really haggle unless there's a tangible reason for them to drop the price(there always is), seems super fucking lazy.

It's not hard to nitpick and then use actual logic to haggle. Just find a dent or some wobbly part or rusty part and say it'll cost x to replace that so I want x off the asking price.

At least you won't seem like a Jew or some dumb pajeet asking for some arbitrary discount for no reason.
>>
>>28674264
because everyone in the used car market is trying to get more than they paid for it despite adding 4-5 years of wear
>>
>>28674351
I've got listing in my bookmarks that are over a year old, price hasn't budged and it doesn't seem like it'll ever sell

Personally I have never haggled. Both times I bought cars off of FBM I just waited for an extremely good deal to come around, met the person at their price because it was a good deal, and got immense bonuses for not wasting their time. The first guy dropped the price several hundred dollars for me unprompted because there were a few unfinished things for the car, and the second guy hand-delivered the car to my house from hours away for paying the asking price.

Turns out when you just deal with reasonable people and try not to one-up those around you you can actually skip all bullshit and live life easily.
>>
>>28674705
You remind me of that episode of King of the Hill where Hank thinks he gets a good deal because he pays sticker price from a dealership. And everyone is too scared to hurt his fragile ego to tell him that he actually got fleeced for being the schmuck that every seller hopes for
>>
>>28674889
The real world is not always so cynical. I could have flipped both cars for thousands a few months later if I wanted to, especially the second one I bought which has been going for $5k+ more than what I got it for for a while now. You just have to be patient and watch the market and wait for a good deal.

Because the internet is not real and everyone acts tough behind a screen.
The tried and true negotiation method is done during the test drive.
Point out every flaw and complain, a lot, about everything.
Act totally disinterested. Use your body language to express disapproval, judgmental glances help, a dissatisfaction fart or two. Complain about personal finances and make up personal health issues to garner pity.
>>
>>28674911
Well I guess it's not for you then. C'ya.
>Check cell phone when I get home to find 17 frantic missed calls from the buyer begging me to come back and sell at asking price.
No thanks.
>>
>>28674944
too late, you already sold it to me at the price i set after fart #3
>>
>>28674291
This. People hate when offers are given over messenger instead of in person. They probably get a dozen messages a day asking "will you take *amount* instead" and stupid trade offers of motorised billycarts and fish tanks.

Literally all it takes is “are you firm on the price or do you have some room?”

Then you go and negotiate in person. I bet you’re the type of retard that says “whats the least you’ll take?” over messenger.
>>
>>28674296
That goes both way you retard
The seller set aside their time to show you the car, and you have what they want.
You're also there in person, right at the moment, which is very rare for marketplace sales. People flake constantly.
