Am I retarded to want to buy a kit car? I am a style over substance guy.
>>28675770The majority of kit cars these days are LS powered poorly designed tube frame death traps, definitely substance over style. If you're talking about some shitty beetle powered Countach or Studebaker based Zimmer then yeah that's pretty gay.
>>28675777What would constitute a non-gay kit car? I confess a Countach is appealing to me in a childish sort of way but they aren't really sold pre-built where I am based anyway and the kits are very intensive.
>>28675786get what you want bro fuck the haters
>>28675770DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
>>28675802>>28675811Thanks anons. I have a decent chunk of change to invest in terms of insurance and maintenance so it's path I want to go down once premiums settle down
>>28675770The REAL countach is basically a mass produced kit car with an exotic engine so go for it OP. Just don't put some mexican built pushrod LS pile of shit in there and you're good.
>>28675770>Am I retarded to want to buy a kit car? If you're a poser who wants some shitty fake lambo, sureIf you're a high iq enthusiast who wants to experience a million dollar classic without the worry of ruining one you get a high end kit like pic related
>>28675864What a shit take. >a fake is bad unless it's an expensive fake. Then it's ok.
>>28675872>a fake is bad unless it's an expensive fake.imagine being too stupid to comprehend the difference between bolting Chinese "lambo" fiberglass and world class modern engineering recreating something that isnt even commonly available you 75 iq mongoloid
>>28675921An expensive fake is still a fake.
>>28675927no one who can afford these cares what a stupid poor such as yourself frames it as
>>28675932That's an awfully uppity attitude for someone who is too poor to afford the real thing.
>>28675770>classic car replicaCool but a waste of money for the most part>Caterham, Factory Five 818/GTM, or similar track kit carsBest performance for the money if you can find donor parts>Literally just a bodykitKill yourself
>>28675770Depends on what car it is, and otherwise only if you're going to do something cool and custom with it that would otherwise make purists cringe. I can understand things like Porsche Speedster and Cobra replicas, a Countach is borderline to me yet understandable IMO but most of the replicas of newer stuff are poorly put together shit that's usually just bought by people trying to pass it off as the real thing.Heck, I'd drive a Countach replica but I'd feel dirty about having any Lamborghini badges on it - I'd rather badge it as something meme-worthy like a Pegassi Torero from GTA or something that at least makes it unique and not a copy (or leave badges off). The Porsche replicas are the only reasonable ones to throw badges on since eh, the modified VWs they're built on are semi-related anyway. I'd feel less bad hacking one up with something like a turbo Subaru motor than I would doing the same for an actual example (insane cost aside with the real thing)>tl;dr it's not retarded, just don't try to flex a copy as the real thing
>>28675770Kit cars are awesome man. Some of the best looking cars as well as some of the most fun cars I've driven are kits or body swaps
>>28675864> high iq enthusiast who wants to experience a million dollar classic>>28675945> Best performance for the money if you can find donor partsLOL, AYY LMAO. > 0-to-60 numbers are in the 3.2 second rangehttps://www.superlitecars.com/slc-faqs>builds can cross the $100K barrierSo, slower than a Corvette for more money, way less safety, potential to fall apart, and lots of work. The reality is that it's going to be a creaky piece of shit that takes half a year of full time work to build that is unstable as fuck and requires a full shop. Again, just to be slower than an off-the-shelf car.
>>28676636> it’s prudent to have your work checked out by a pro race shop before you hit the track or the street. A good shop will be able to go over the car, and do an initial suspension setup if you aren’t totally comfortable doing it yourself.> Is there a build manual? One is in development. > But the car is simple to build, and if you are familiar with basic wiring and plumbing tasks, you’ll find it easy to assemble.Ayy lmao, should be good if you have ever dropped a transmission on a Civic. Totally the same thing, but we did tell you to have professionals check the whole build in case it turns into a fireball!
>>28676636>CTK Virginia International Raceway lap time: 1:48.8 in 2015, under $100k all in>C8 Corvette ZR1 ZTK Package lap time: 1:47.70 in 2025, $212k MSRP ($225k with dealer markeups)Real great argument there, boyo
>>28676618>Depends on what car it is, and otherwise only if you're going to do something cool and custom with it that would otherwise make purists cringeI think that's the big thing about it. With originals you are incentivised socially and financially to keep things as close to stock as possible. But because there is no expectation for resale with kit you don't have to worry about stuff like that and go wild.
>>28676636They aren’t there for 0-60, but check out their lap times. A Ultima/Radical will get you into sub 7 mins Hurrdurrring times. It will booty blast Corvettes and 911s at any track
>>28675770To be quite honest, I would buy a countach, but i never see any advertized anywhere, and I have looked for a while. I can find a Diablo though, which are also based.
>>28676890That's kinda funny. I can find quite a few listings for Countachs on places like Lambo kit car facebook groups but I don't think I have seen a Diablo yet. I would prefer getting a Diablo but only because it is the closest thing to pic rel in terms of looks. I don't think there has ever been a true kit for a V16T beyond trully bespoke garage builds.
luv' me kit cars
>>28676905I meant a real lambo though, not the kit. I kind find heaps of replicas. For some reason the Countach seems to be relatively rare
>>28676669Nice try, maybe even a stealth flex attempt comparing (what exactly, we will get to that) to the top of the line Corvette, when the base is under both $100,000 and 3 seconds.> $70,195–$88,945> 60-mph time of 2.8 seconds, and a quarter-mile pass of 11.2 seconds at 122 mphhttps://www.caranddriver.com/chevrolet/corvetteI don't even like Corvettes, but lets not delude the kids into thinking these pieces of shit are fast. As far as the time you posted - not for a typical example, because that doesn't exist. Was probably tuned by a racing shop. Typical example will just have a control arm pop out randomly and then break your neck without a Hans device. I will concede that if you just want to race it and build it to racing specs with a full cage and wear full gear (including hans), its kind of whatever and do what you want at that point. I think most people posting here are thinking of a street car though.>>28676844Ties in with much of the above. I haven't checked your facts on that, but I believe it - with the right wheels / tires / engine. What I don't believe is that it will do it without serious adjustments from a serious shop and extremely expensive engine/transaxle options. The reality, for me, is that I can't afford to "race" from a tires / pads / time to bleed & align everything perspective past Miata spec and carts anyway, so all of these are an abstraction to me. I always think of people who buy them as people trying to flex on the street, but they fall apart from that perspective too.To be concise - I think this is a discussion who see "$50,000" and think they can have something very special for that within a reasonable amount of time, but that's just not the reality imo.
>>28677199P.S. I keep looking at the Superlite kits. E.g. one for sale: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rx2xlRj6/2018-superlite-gt-r?ss_id=51800257-b0ec-431d-a611-a79ca2dbb628&ref=pr_1_1Boomer build thread: https://www.gt40s.com/threads/grimoire-e-10-superlite-gt-r-build.57244/To stress my point above - when you are trying to do in on a budget, it's not worth it. We even talked about my friend's shop building them to re-sell, but it didn't make sense either. And if someone is rich, it just doesn't seem worth it in that case since there are alternatives that aren't a pain in the ass.So it seems like the only application might be niche racing with a fairly high budget and an absolute obsession with it. And even then, I really really doubt that they surpass modded factory cars, but I guess I don't know. Thanks for reading my blog, but maybe OP finds it interesting.
>>28675770>style over substance1975 C3 corvette vert.Or [malaise barge] if it suits you.
>>28677207And while I am shitposting - the build linked above started in 2023, in a shop, by a professional mechanic. 2025? Abandoned.Captcha: GG
If you guys got one, what would it be? Btw, pic related is what the interiors ACTUALLY look like.I would go with the Superlite GT-R I keep posting above for sure, but yea - 5 year builds, ~$150,000 all in, minimum mechanic/shop, preferably with racing experience, and at least a barn 4-car garage for build space.
