why not spend the 40 on a really good ss/xr6t or something? seems like a waste of money for a corolla. what did you use to drive?

yeah thats right
more realistically spend 25 and keep the rest spare. a good vy ss would be much better than a new corolla surely

Went to inspect this over the weekend. 1973 series 3.

I know plenty about fixing and maintaining classic cars but I know exactly nothing about land rovers. How cooked would I be if I bought it?
>>
>>28678595
new landys are shit but i think the old ones were decent. itd prob have asbestos gaskets like the old brit stuff did i think so be careful when ur working on it. if not it will prob piss oil everywhere. manual?
>>
>>28678599
I'll keep that in mind. It's a manual and I think he said 2.2 petrol. Kind of assumed these would all be diesel but I don't really mind either way.

Diffs and transfer look like they need new gaskets. Hard to say with the engine, it was generally grimy but nothing concerning for its age.

It only has about 6 components though so it's not like anything could even break. I've been googling and I can see a few au stores and a bunch of uk stores with a huge range of parts, although they're not """""cheap""""".
>>
>>28678607
pre cool but. you gonna take it offroad or just have it as a project.
>>
>>28678612
It'd probably be a project. I've never tried off roading although I'm willing to give it a go and see if it's fun.

I'm selling my bike

Bought my wife a new rav4 hybrid, love getting in that thing

Very tempted to get another one for myself, or a 4x4 Ute for that macho loop, unironically

Daily drive an evo 8, love the thing, but there is such little opportunity to speed and its not as comfortable as a rav. I do love tinkering though, and she's reliable and I know her inside out
>>
wtf happened? 5 years ago selling an evo 8 for a rav 4 would of been a ridiculous concept
>>
Trying to sell a Rolls Royce Silver Spur II in this country is a joke, arabs and jeets pretending to be rich cunts while haggling to get the car for peanuts. Nothing but arabs and jeets.

>>
>>28678629
Speed limits dropping
1 million Indians imported per year clogging up the roads
I'm just getting old

I wonder if it'll become a classic in 10 years, as classic muscle cars are now?

>>28678631
I was selling a veloster not long ago, same thing with the jeets. Offering literally below trade in price. I don't even respond to any brown people these days.

>>28678633
Don't blame me, blame the female gaze. Other than a vehicle that projects wealth, their most attractive rated vehicle for men are truggs (as the yanks call them).

That said, unbelievable how expensive a 4x4 Ute is. Even the Chinese junk is in the $50k range
>>
>>28678637
it will be if car culture stays as it is with all the tiktok clout chasers. though i suspect (and hope) that the trend will die and the price of enthusiast cars will go back down a bit. wont ever be what it was before covid tho

went for a drive today and figured this was relevant
>>
>>28678638
Evo prices never went too crazy - I paid 20k in 2014 for a decent condition imported gsr. At the height of covid distortion, Max value would have been 45k (absolute top of the market for the short period). Market has stabilised at low to mid 30s. Overall, that's more or less tracking inflation.

Can't believe how much s15 are listed for, considering what you get.

If I didn't need the back seat for a baby seat, I'd be very tempted to buy something that I could take to eastern Creek drift nights

I wonder if I'd be very regretful if I sold the evo and got a rav4? Is it worth pushing through to be the "cool" retro car guy in 15 years? I'm a home owner and a dad, and gainfully employed, I certainly don't have much time for hobbies. Anyone else in a similar boat?

doesnt matter about being the cool guy in however many years. evo 8 will always be a better car to have for an enthusiast over a rav4. i assume at least ive never driven either. i just think youll regret that exchange and might be priced out of having something that good again. like you said unless you replace it with another evo everything else is worth way too much
>>
>>28678648
This, the evolution is going to hold its value pretty well even if you put a lot of kilometres on it, rav4 is a depreciating asset
>>

>>
>>28678648
It's tough, because I live in Sydney and I can rarely open her up or throw her around. Was ok when I lived on bells line of road, but now it's crap.

Rav4 is same chassis as a Camry and desu I'm extremely impressed with the handling, relative for an SUV. It went down bells line pretty well. New cars have come a long way - plus all the suspension components are brand new, shocks/bushes/ball joints etc

>>28678649
Rav4 is holding value extremely well! One of the main reasons that I bought it

I could always sell and buy another evo later... But there's just not much that you can get for $35k these days. 2018 hilux with 200kms and dpf on it? No thanks

>>28678722
Meh. I'm married, and in my 30s & maturing.
Like it or not, life is a popularity contest and your image plays a part.
I actually want comfort and safety more than anything, but many 4x4s are now engineered like road cars, rather than ladder frame leaf spring offroaders, so it's not a choice with compromise. It's also by far the most popular new car category in Australia and USA, so not sure why you've got your panties in a bunch.

had some jeet in a corolla start speed matching me when went past him, we ended up doing 20 over and he still kept hanging in my blind spot. my left turn was up ahead but he insisted on staying there so i just stomped the pedal and shot in front. guy's now trying to keep up with me doing 100 before the turn, then at the chicanes on this particular road i could see him slowing way down while i just kept it pegged at the limit lol
>>
>>28678735
Unfortunately popularity has nothing to do with quality. In fact it seems to have a negative correlation
>>
>>28678749
Why are jeets like this? Happens to me all the time on the m1, they are sitting in the far right lane 10 under the limit, go to the middle lane and overtake at 7 over the limit, they match speed.

>don't think much of it, move to the right lane since my turn is coming up

Any advice for finding cheap starter shitboxes? Seems much more expensive now and when the odd option pops up on Carsales I never hear back
>>
>>28678595
They're really not too bad, they aren't fast or particularly refined things but they work for what they're intended to do- go off road, be a bit of a farm wagon
Provided you sorta keep that in realistic expectations they're not inordinately difficult mechanically. Everything is old and tired after 50 years but its also not like anyone got them going fast enough to hit anything fast enough to seriously bend them either!
Obviously a frame off, full resto is heaps of work, but keeping it looking like a rats nest, get the engine reliable and sort out all the other rotten bits of rubber, fucked cables, clogged up radiator and rattly bits will keep anyone busy enough for life. You could go something like an older Izuzu turbo diesel engine and driveline like the army did with the Perentie and that will make them a much easier mechanical platform.

But really, if its lasted this long with what its got, chances are its probably still fine
>>
are there any cheap enthusiast cars left in this shithole country?
>>
>>28679603
if there are you'd have to be quick. maybe old school newspaper classifieds might have a gem or two. wouldn't be surprised if there's an old dude or lady that doesn't really into computers and probably has a really nice car they want to sell
>>
>>28678848
This isn't the best write up, but close
https://indiacurrents.com/crushed-by-the-juggernaut/

Effectively, Indians have a long tradition and perhaps a semblance of "honour" to be close to and crushed by large moving objects. They can't help but get crushed by trains, and now that the white man's engineering has given them motor cars that their monkey brain cannot fully comprehend, all they do is extend the 2 tonne hunk of metal as their own person needing to be close to other people and items. Like lemmings, but instead of a cliff, it's getting close to heavy moving objects

>>28678866
It needs to be your full time job. All the third worlders and intergenerational welfare recipients spend all their time lowballing and arbitraging the good deals. Yet another disastrous impact of mass immigration and the welfare state.

>>28679603
As above, no.

I'm sad that I never got into v8s as I was a JDM fag. Now they're gone. Mustangs are way over priced, and so is the Nissan z

Wrx is plentiful, they're just a little "soft" compared to the old days
>>
>>28679791
v8 soarers go for pretty cheap if you want jap v8. the jz ones are much more expensive, can only assume it's because people think the v8 will guzzle fuel. can even manual swap them which would probably be really fun to drive, ive always wanted to try out a 1uz with a 5 speed.

All those cars are getting very old :( even mighty Nippon steel cars don't last forever. Niggling wiring issues aren't fun.

>Watching YouTube, I get second hand fatigue with guys doing a complex swap and nothing working out easy! Only oem plus for me
fair enough and that's one of the reasons i manual swapped my cressida, it was extremely straightforward. the neat thing about that car is that you can get mounts to stick a 1uz in if you want.
the soarer v8 conversions are quite sorted out now, what with 20+ years of knowledge. there's bolt in kits available, not cheap but they're out there.

at least for my cressida the manual made it so much fun to drive, i racked up 50,000 km in 2 years driving the piss out of it for fun and as a daily. for a frumpy churchmobile it was more nimble than you'd think, probably because in japan these were sold as regular, luxury and sports/performance cars. people like turning them into drift missiles but i really do think you'd have more fun with the stock suspension.
the is250s seem more isolated/coccooned from the outside though so it might be a bit more numb/dull.

if you want a cressy there's a carsales listing in syd thats going for 7800. i know that same light blue car was posted at 12k a year or two ago. seems to be in really good shape, has nice sheepskin seat covers, interior is very clean, no rust, it even has the dealer/oem headlight protectors. done 263k km so there might be the possibility that the head gasket is fixed too.

are bmws really as nice to drive as people say?
>>
>>28680208
Genuinely, yes. Things get a little weird in the early 2010s models since they wanted them to be more on the comfort luxury end of the scale rather than sporty, so they took on a boat feeling, and then went back to balanced between sport and comfort in the very late 2010s.

I still like the F10 despite it being a big early 10s boat, it feels like a 7 Series and is comfy on the highway.

Heavily depends on the engine imo. The twin turbo is a nightmare, I'd only ever consider one with the N52 (325 or 330). They're all really good to drive, I think my all time favorite BMWs to drive would be the E60 (better handling overall), then the E92 and then the E38 (obvious reasons, those things are beautiful but obvious very large and not meant for hard cornering).

>>

That pic has aged pretty bad now, a lot changed post-COVID. Sydney actually has more trannies and homos than Victoria now, stats say a large amount migrated there after COVID. QLD has also become extremely jeeted and WA is a land of meth.

>Is ACT a good place to be a car guy
Lots of car thefts, so that's up to you. Believe it or not, but VIC is about as good as it gets in this cunt now. Shit has gone retarded nationwide in the last few years.

What, with the massive ethnic crime problems? Sudoniggers running around slicing people up in public with machetes? Entire swathes of suburbia out west where white people are an extreme minority? The state with the highest debt to GDP of all states and territories? Record high crime but magistrates down there have a complete inability to lock anyone up and will instead authorise the release of actual criminals with the smallest bail possible?

Victoria's well fucked and yeah it's a *little* bit of the pot calling the kettle black because I live in NSW, but literally everything I hear in the news out of VIC is telling me that the state and Melbourne in particular is a complete disaster. It's a shame because I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years before 2020 and quite liked it but it seems to have really fallen apart in a big way recently.

If I had to pick anywhere right now it would be QLD followed by WA. Queensland is the place to be, far more sensible road policing and car modification laws, absolute shitloads to do, and great weather and beaches. NSW is experiencing a lot of white flight at the moment with white Aussies packing up and leaving for QLD and WA, I can only imagine the problem is worse in Victoria. Tasmania is a good spot but unfortunately difficult to find good employment.

I'm not entirely sure what it runs at now, there's still a few places around like Ironchef imports, J-spec Imports that bring in cars and are well regarded for their service. Going it alone, don't recommend it

Juggernaut theory is a real eye opener. The symbol of India is the sky wheel and it is their form of the Universal Saturn worship of ancient times where we also get our Knights of the Round Table and Joshua rotated around the walls of Jericho and similar cultural artifacts world wide. William Simpson wrote a great book about these wheel cults in 1894, discussed here:

How this plays out in India is a belief in reincarnation and that being crushed under the Holy Wheel is the highest religious honour. They then respawn as a Jeer with better luck.

Travellers have observed them trying to do this for centuries.

Any wheeled vehicle will do. It should look a bit like an accident. Or rather, gives God (Saturn) a getout clause if he wants to spare them. If you notice, they always make it look like an accident but they have a friend ready to record it whenever tbey are crushed by a vast wheeled vehicle.

One of them recently crashed an Air India jet full of people to this end. The Hindu pilot just turned off the fuel to the engines just after they took off. The Christian co-pilot was horrified and tried to restart the engines but it was too late.

Their highest relugious honour is to be crushed by a wheeled vehicle. Insanely these people are given driving licences. Even truck licences, the craziest possible thing for a people who are part of a truck-death cult.

Yeah, I don't like people that shit on America and Americans. They tend to base their views on a propagandised lefty liberal noisy minority. Ironically, nearly all negative outcomes in America is based on the proliferation of blacks and spics. All negative social policy is either from black and spics, or Jewish subversion and fraudulence.

By all accounts, ridgey didge Americans are super friendly and approachable. They may as "stupid questions" but that's only out of curiosity and friendliness, and the fact that as Americans they are unironically at the centre of the world and do not concern themselves too much with formally being abreast of politics and culture of various backwaters. I don't blame them.

Note that places like Canada, Europe and Australia are starting to see similar issues to America as we get more and more Africans/asylum seekers and various soft oppression and surveillance state.

I have a lot of time for my American cousins. I am open hearted to my European cousins that may have been snarky for a long time, but are coming around now that they have Noticed and have to deal with open borders for a decade or so, and it's impacts.

Am I an utter moron for wanting to spend 15-20k on a Toyota crown hybrid (Or a late 2nd gen IS350/ early 3rd gen IS if the idea of a crown isn't smart) when I'm also saving for an apartment while living with my parents? I've got a mediocre, base 07 impreza hatch I got from a family friend and have been craving something else pretty much since before I owned the damm thing. I finally am earning reasonable money but buying anything like this would be a reasonable chunk of savings in the end.

I really want to move out finally but I feel that if I purchase an apartment I'm not gonna have the money on hand to buy a nice car for a long while. Am I an idiot? Is moving out ASAP the obvious right move or is delaying it to have a comfy car an ok decision?
