Apparently these korean tires are latest hottest shit.
Thoughts?

Korean cars are mid and so is all their tech.

korean tires are tier 2. not bad, but not michelin either.
>>
>>28679192
yang wang is immeasurably cooler, imagine wearing a shirt that said yang wang vs one that said kumho
>>
>>28679175
cool story dude
i'll stick with michelin

Michelins street tires are shit, lol.
Only porschefags who have never been near a track say this.
thoughbeit that i have not tried the new 4s, but the 2s and 3s were ass.
>>
>>28679243
racing performance is not the only metric of tire quality.

Kumho has always made bottom barrel tires that are still outside the exploding Chink range.

Only tire they ever made that was good is the ACR tire.
But it was 2 sizes and now it looks like those are about to be discontinued.
>>
>>28679243
The 4S tire set the new benchmark in 2017 anon.
I've never driven on a tire that has a better combination of dry and wet grip.
I've used 4S on the street, Autocross, and even a wet track day.
Good tire.

I just buy cheapest asain shit rubber I can and burn through it instead, can easily get 4 or 5 sets for the price for maybe a slight less performance/comfort drop.

so you're saying the reviews are bought?

>>
>>28679460
how's the cumsock tire #1 when it scores place 3-4 at most tests?
and how the fuck is the conti tire #3 when it literally scores best in most categories?
>>
>>28679460
That ranking system doesn't make any sense.
The other tires are scoring much higher.
>>
>>28679175

Kumho makes some decent rubbers for the price. The solus 4s ha32, road venture at52, ecsta sport, and ectsa ps71 are all fair to middlin' second string choices in their respective categories if a more premium tyre is not available.
'Hottest shit' is definitely not the first phase that comes to mind though. Or second. Or fifth, for that matter.
>>
i had some on my corvette to pass inspection and ended up keeping them since they fared pretty good. they aren’t michelins but if you need something that isn’t total chunkshit they’re pretty good
>>
>>28679378
this is what I do on my rwd shitbox. I dont want more grip, in fact, I want less
>>
>>28679466
>>28679472
Tirerack tests weight road manners and handling characteristics alongside track times for 'overall' rankings, which is how you can end up with some interesting orderings. If performance is the primary or only concern then of course you can just pay attention to the later.
>>
>>28679460
Unirocinally yes, but do you think retards here bother investigating reviews and tests before spouting their usual shit about products they know nothing about?
>>
I had Kumho Ecstas on my BMW, they were surprisingly shit tyres despite being "better" tires.
Ironically the shit cheap eastern european Kormoran black rings that went for tyres were way better than the Kumhos were.
Couldn't even do a proper skid with the Kormorans, yet with the Kumhos when I left for work in the mornings, I had to go easy on the accelerator or else I'd just be banging against the traction control.
They made good skid tyres because they had dogshit traction, especially when "cold" they were like driving on ice.
>>
>>28679175
their ecstas are apparently pretty grippy, for a while they were a great option if you wanted some fat sidewalls for 15 inch wheels but don't think they make as many now which is a real shame
>>
>>28679175
KUM-HOE
>>
>>28679178
they're better than chinese but they're definately not the best squinteyes
>>
>>28679175
Best marketing. All tires are the same. I will now address all rebuttals to this fact:

>no!!!
Yeah they are.

>nuh uh!!!!!!!!
Yeah, they are.
>>
>>28679243
Being contrarian doesn't make you right.
>>
Kumhos harden rather quickly with heat cycles.
Its literally the only brand that I will never run again.
>>
>>28679558
Yeah but that kumo tire was bottom of the barrel and almost all tests.

It's basically just a question of how you weight the metrics of each individual test criteria. On that day on that car with those tyres and those drivers, the ecstas had the best ride quality out of the 11 other rubbers on the test which along with high marks for steering feel and noise comfort gave it the best on road score. And on the wet and dry track and objective traction tests the top five were all closely matched, which made the on road test results the biggest difference maker in the final weighting.

The utility of tests like this that test multiple things and the way you treat with them is basically just have an idea in mind as to what qualities are most important for your own use-case, and pick the tyre that best matches it.
>>
>>28679288
>Only tire they ever made that was good is the ACR tire.
Isn't that made specifically for the Dodge Viper?
>>
>>28679931
I bet you use that pic a lot
>>
>>28679710
>I had Kumho Ecstas on my BMW, they were surprisingly shit tyres despite being "better" tires.
I had the 4X's on my Grand Prix. I think they have heat cycling issues since they started off decent but became quite shit and utterly useless in the snow. (had to burn rubber to get up my hill when nobody else was having an issue.)
>>
>>28679967
Ya.
Nobody wanted to do some one-off weird ass size for a fucking Chrysler but they were like "fuck it, we suck and have nothing else to do because nobody buys our shit so this can only be good for our reputation..."

Oh ya.
Viper blew a tire and crashed trying to set a record at Nuremberg....
>>
>>28679960
Loses wet grip
Loses dry grip
Loses comfort and noise
Still wins
Uh???

>Thoughts?
>not wanting to use proven Japan Yokohama tire
>which has been around for decades now and had proven itself in the likes of JGTC
>nah lets just use Korean garbage tier shit because its cheap
I bought these recently and got nails in them not even at 10,000 miles. They also started scalloping horribly compared to when I used higher-quality tire like Toyo or Yokohama, which wore evenly and consistently. These might be priced right but they are so shit, I replaced the fronts with Nexen (another Japan tire) and never had problems. The rears already had a nail patch on one of them on these Ecsta. They might be OE equipment on some cars but they are so ass bro.

>>28680142
maybe so, but the tire marking on my model states it is made in Japan. Maybe they outsource to a subsidiary lately like Sumitomo. They have worn down nicely compared to Kumho and have not had any nails. But yes, I do plan to go back to Japan tires like Yokohama soon
>>
>>28680123
Top three and top five respectively with very small margins of difference, equal steering and handling feel to the conti, goodyear, and vredestein, with superior noise and ride quality to the former two and superior ride to the latter, that's not 'bottom of the barrel'.
Like I said, they wouldn't be my personal choice regardless, and the ordering is largely based on how you fudge it when weighting the different individual metrics as well, just saying that there is a method and it has a logic.
>>
>>28680123
they probably factored in the price. those cumsock tires are crazy cheapa in comparison but are only slightly worse than the best tires
>>
>>28679175
>>28679178
My experience with korean tires is that they might be cheap, and they might be fast, but like everything korean, they cut corners (The "land of not quite right" as has been told). So usually you'll have issues like grip falling off hard after a few sessions, or much higher wear rates than the competition (so you're effectively buying a 100 treadwear tire that barely competes with a 200 treadwear tire, for example).
Not complete garbage like Chinese tires, just be aware of what you're getting into.
>>
>>28679504
>road venture at52
Can confirm. Bomb proof go anywhere tire that gets the job done on and off road including wheeling. Hauls loads great too. Real workhouse of a tire.
>>
>>28679175
No it's bad. The only tires you should ever buy regardless of vehicle or use case is the most expensive michelin tires possible. That's what everyone here told me.

these have been popular for like 40+ years, what the fuck are you talking about you retard
>>
>>28679175
Chinese tyres are good enough, I am struggling to break traction in a 400rwhp manual mustang with esc off in track mode no launch control with Chinese tyres.
Have to clutch dump in 1st to break traction and they cost 200 a tyre vs 600+ and they last twice as long.
Any more grip and I wouldn't be able to break traction in 3rd.
>>
>>28679754
back when I had my miata with 15x9 6uls, kumho ecstas were basically the only 225/45r15 available outside of track only tires. You had shit like r888s, but those are absolute dogshit street tires.
Eventually more companies put out 225s and 245s, but can confirm they were the savior for a few years for wide 15s.

I didn't expect such a simple unoffensive statement to cause so much butthurt
I didn't say they were the widest tires ever put on a 15 inch wheel, just that 15x9 inch wheels are wide for a miata.
They were supposed to use 245s but literally no 245 existed at the time and only 2 street legal 225s existed
