Boomers unironically think that having sludge keeping seals going is a good thing. My engine is sludged up, so I am doing a flush with atf and kerosene. My boomer neighbor laughed and said I was going to destroy my seals doing a flush. I am prepared to replace the front and rear main seals, well the front since the rear seal is less than 6 months old and I replaced it when I changed out the clutch. How did boomers clear out sludge?
>unironically flushing an engineYou probably use the bleeder valve when changing pads too.
>>28680442no idea ive never let my engine get sludged
diesel
>>28680442A high pressure flush will cause leaks if it’s high mileage past 100k miles. Just do a drain and refill.
>>28680442Just change the oil more often with a formula with higher detergency. Like valvoline r&p or mobil1 fs or rotella t6.
>>28680822I'm doing it once a month or 1000 miles, whichever comes first. Oil still black after 20 miles. So I flushed the engine out, dropped the pan and dumped the crap at the bottom of the pan.
>>28680442Nothing enrages the boomer more than realizing that all the "wisdom" he thinks he's earned and make him so important, are worthless.
>>28680442remove the plugs and fuel pump relayremove the oil pan and attach a hose to the pickup tube.place the hose into pic related.crank the engine for 10 minutesflush with 2 gallons of oilreinstall oil pan, fill with oil, drive 100 miles, and change oil again. then do it at 500, and 1000 miles.
>>28680442Esters keep silicone and rubber conditioned and “plump”. That’s partly why ester based full synthetics are so good, they keep the internal seals in good shape while offering superior lubrication.
>>28680442Fill the engine with diesel not kero and turn it over just don't let it start
>>28681018>5 gallons>cranking for 10 minutes.>9 of those minutes were spent sucking air from an empty bucketYoure an idiot that doesnt even understand how much oil and engine moves
>>28680998same thing's going to happen to you when you're 60 and gen alphas are telling you they don't need to know anything since the AI chips implanted in their withered brains can just answer everything for them.
>>28680442Boomers are idiots, if it's leaking from the seals, replace them, it's an old motor that's been heatsoaking and cooling, shit get brittle and leaks, it's nothing to due with sludge.
When I do a flush I just do an oil change with the cheapest shitass oil and shitass $3 filter, put in the $5 oil flush additive, then idle/rev it a little for a few minutes, drain then put in the proper oil and filter. If it's REALLY bad maybe drive it for 20mi like that lightly then change.
>>28681360>Cranking>He can't hook a drill to his oil pump and run it independently NGMI
>>28681018lol this is dum dum shitAlso boomers are all over the hill, the quality of that experience is questionable, and any knowledge they gained is dated. For example I just bought picrel motorcycle from a boomer.>rust holes in tank patched with bondo, entire tank sprayed with generic paint, filler hole wasn't covered, paint flaking into gas>tank still leaks>pod filters, improper jetting, runs lean>cheap aftermarket windscreen mounted such that you get to choose between dragging the clutch or brake>rusty chain with two master links in it>throttle sticks a bit>two year old oil>one (unoriginal)mirror, cannot be adjusted >gas gauge broken> front turn signals inoperable, rear turn signals missing altogether>clutch adjusted so it can't completely disengage even when windscreen doesn't touch>shitton of blowby>low compression AFTER I adjusted the out of adjustment valves>rear tire mounted backwards.None of this was disclosed outside of the low resolution pictures in the ad. And I talked with this guy on the phone multiple times, and he assured me I could ride it across the country. Which I did, but I absolutely would not have made it if I hadn't brought my tools and basic fucking knowledge of how to not fuck up a motorcycle with me. Had I not flown out to bumfuck Minnesota and had him drive me an hour from the airport, I would have made it VERY clear that he needs to hang it up.So yeah once you're actually know what you're talking about on a subject, it becomes very, very clear how many people will mouth off about it when they in fact do not know anything more than what has already been parroted to them. So at this point I don't take advice on anything unless you can demonstrate your expertise somehow.
>>28681360obviously you only need to crank till its emptyfeel free to hook up your starter to a 6v battery for slower cranking.point is to get that shit everywhere inside your oil gallies to dislodge and clean out the gunk
>>28680442He's exactly right. If you're ready to change the seals, fine.
