is this an good deal for $2.8k, Odometer: at 159k she takes diesel 2 owner fully loaded, going test drive it on halloween, the miles is the only thing that has me worry
>>
>>
>>
>>
it probably needs 5k in suspension an engine repairs if not more to keep it in shape, to say nothing of what it will need in 10-20k miles
the initial cost isn't the issue, it's the cost of parts and labor and expensive repairs
>>
>>28681307
This, if you're not a rich ass motherfucker who can lease a new one without thinking about it, a cheap BMtroubleU will keep your poor just to keep itself going

right now im trying to get the seller to send me an vid of the car running, because its just pictures seem off right?
>>
>>28681323
I'm hoping she is running Anon, because if it isn't running due to something catastrophic, then the car is $2800 for a reason.
>>
>>28681289
This was owned by obvious ghetto trash. If you can get it for $1K maybe
>>
>>28681324
yup, sure as shit hope so, this would be my first BMW so I hope the bullshit it has is nothing crazy
>>
>>28681358
I highly advise you not to get this as your first BMW, but if it runs you might as well just for the price
>>
>>28681366
not saying im gonna pulll the trigger but if you have to point me to another model what would it be? I'm working with $6.8k here or should I hold off
>>
>>28681385
I would get the nicest running car you can buy for that money from either a dealer or a private seller, that has service records and isn't going to make you run out of money, you do not need to be buying shit from copart auctions where totaled cars go because they're a nightmare with limited funds, also don't be ashamed to look at Hondas Anon, you can get yourself a really decent Civic or Accord for almost 7 grand, especially if you're a young guy you don't need your life to be suffering.
>>
>>28681385
Straighr six E39 or LCI E90
>>
>>28681389
Those are good ass cars but you need to buy a good maintained example, and they're often more than what OP has, the man needs to buy a Honda Civic or something, which even if it needs repairs will not ruin your life.

Like any BMW it's all about how it's been maintained, especially oil changes. Engine and gearbox don't like being neglected.
The fake M badge, shitty wheels and other miscellaneous scratches makes me think the owner wasn't the most careful, perhaps young, perhaps of brown variety, perhaps was more interested in shitty mods and drifting at wallmart rather than maintaining his vehicle.
If anything breaks you're up the creek with no paddles, a used gearbox is around 2000€, don't wanna think how much it's in Burgland. Hard pass from me.
t.owned several BMWs, still own 1
>>
>>28681399
We talk like dicks sometimes Anon, but really most of us don't want to see anyone suffer, also ignore anyone being a stupid ass, it's just what they do.
>>
>>28681392
I bought a 2000 528i with 198k miles for $2400 and it was the car that made me fall in love with E39s and good BMWs in general. I've had 2 more E39s since then, only one was more than what OP has
>>
>>28681323
>brake warnings
Yeah, it's fucked. Whatever brownoid had it probably did 0 maintenance and now the engine or gearbox is on its way out. Seen cars that were religiously maintained develope scorched rod bearings at around 180k miles. Heard of horror stories of engines blowing upnshortly after 100k miles. Really peculiar about maintenance and the type of oil used.

These were the biggest red flags. And it just sitting in the desert
>>
>>28681404
He's right, for a BMW in otherwise such decent condition to be at fucking copart where the wrecked cars go, some clout chaser ass kid likely blue up the engine doing pops and bangs
>>
>>28681403
here an better look anon
>>
>>28681410
It runs, but who knows how well? the copart auction says mechanical damage, and on BMW that could cost you more than you even have.

You have to get yourself a clean title, no sordid history car Anon BMW or whatever it is, you don't have the money to lose like the YouTubers do, Tvarish or Tyler Hoover can take a huge L on a basket case car and it doesn't matter because they're loaded and making money from YouTube videos.
>>
>>28681417
You’re completely right that’s exactly why I came here to ask. I could’ve asked some family or friends, but most of them don’t know much about cars anyway.

I guess it was smart to make this thread.
>>
>>28681426
Yeah you're fine to be curious Anon, because it is appetizing, a 5 series BMW that's not smashed for crazy low money, but being an Inline 6 BMW diesel, which with tuning can make about 400HP, 600+ ft lbs of torque, and the owner was clearly a hot boi, he may have not blown the engine, but was beating the shit out of it while not minding the temperature of the transmission, which can blow up a known good ZF 8 speed transmission, that's a weakness on these cars when you're making such ridiculous amounts of torque that it didn't have factory.
>>
>>28681430
This is why I say E39 or E90, way easier to work on than an F10
>>
>>28681436
Yeah if OP can find a 328i E90/E92 with the N52 motor and a 6 speed ZF automatic I think he'd do fine, the fuccbois generally stay away from them which means they don't get destroyed and they are good cars, would stay running for him even if it's an imperfect example in his budget.
>>
>>28681439
The ZF 6HP was only in the 335i; the 328i got a gm transmission for the automatics like some E39s
>>
>>28681444
Oh shit, I had no idea only turbski cars got it, at least 328s were known to stay working, also OP shouldn't get a diesel because all of the emissions crap on it which can be extremely expensive if you need to service the selective catalyst reduction system with the tank and the little heater it has, things can get out of hand with diesel BMWs unless you're gonna break the law and delete all that crap out of there.

Incorrect, most E90s got the zf (at least in America).
OP, I have to say it one more time, if you have to fix the emission controls on this you will not fucking believe how much it will cost you. If you can delete it this could be a steal, they roll out
with a tune.

>Urine tank is almost 3 grand
Good god German cars are horrific sometimes, that's the problem with getting super expensive cars at a low price, is you're not maintaining a based Honda that was originally relatively cheap, you're maintaining a $90,000 piece of shit in today's money.
>>
>>28681675
Incorrect, only 335s had the ZF 6HP
The automatic transmission in a US 2008 BMW 328i is a 6-speed General Motors (GM) transmission, specifically the 6L45 (also known as GA6L45R). This is true for both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) models, although specific part numbers may differ between the two.
Transmission Model: 6-speed GM 6L45 (GA6L45R).
Drive Type: This transmission was used in both RWD and AWD versions of the 2008 328i.
Transmission Fluid: The transmission uses Dexron 6 fluid.

Stock 535d (and 335d) are mechanically robust and won’t really come with many problems. However, the owners are some of the worst people. They are obsessed with it being “just as fast” (it isn’t) as the 35i/M cars so will always modify them. And because they’re cheap they modify them cheaply. Suddenly your 35d is pushing 380hp that it isn’t really comfortable with for short journeys it wasn’t designed for and it doesn’t end well. The wheels on that are a giveaway of the sort of person who has owned it. They’re nearly all like this because they’re now at the end of the market where people who make bad financial decisions can afford them

A clean example in Europe is a fine thing for big mile munching comfiness but that one will be ruinous
>>
My 2009 335d is my favourite car ever simple as. It has not cost me that much in the period I have owned it (130k-150k miles). It regularly goes on 400mi trips though so I think that has been good for the dpf.

Mine is stock (boring?) though. Don't feel the need for tunes and deletes and not that level of wrencher either.

I'm changing the fuel filter next week. Transmission is a little rough on 2-3 before it's warmed up. Dunno if I should change the (((lifetime))) fluid at this point.
>>
>>28681289
Anon, honestly I do not recommend any cheap bmw unless it has a good maint record or you can work on them yourself. These images look extremely kow quality and sus to me. Especially those godawful rims tell me that the previous owner was probably a retard who neglected maint and drove recklessly.
You buy a BMW for the engine, the N57 in these are pretty good but I would really check the turbos, timing chains and oil + water pump. If you need a replacement on the twin turbos you're gonna have to pay out of your ass. BMW parts are not cheap even if you could work on them yourself. You only having a budget of 7k$ makes me worry.
>>
>>28682724
Definitely change the transmission fluid
>>
>>28681941
35d will blow the doors of a 35i
>>
>>28682779
Lol nope
>>
>>28682724
Lifetime fluid is a lie and change it like the other anon said. I personally change transmission fluids every 30k-50k miles depending on the car. NO fluid or part is "lifetime", BMW simply wants you to buy a new car after 10 years or 100k miles.

>You buy a BMW for the engine, the N57 in these are pretty good

Holy shit /o/ is retarded. The N57 is a DOGSHIT engine. They have oiling issues, the oil pump shits out. They have timing chain issues and you have to remove the transmission to access it because it's at the BACK of the engine. They also snap crankshafts and are known to require rod bearings. Probably got Adblue shit as well.

OP DO NOT BUY THIS CAR

When it comes to BMW diesels, you buy a M57 engined car. They don't shit timing chains, they are overbuilt as fuck and can do 500,000KM with standard maintenance.
>>
>>28682793
n55s suck
>>
>>28682795
Did mutts get different engines or what? Only complain I hear about these engines are the timing chain that stretches, turbos on the biturbo models and EGR system. But all of those rear their heads very late in life, close to 300k kms.
>>
>>28682803
No, but most Americans don't believe in maintenance. I've seen cars that went years without as much as an oil change.
>>
>>28682803

The issues I'm seeing with these N57s are coming out of Yurop. A bong policeman got lit up in his N57 powered cop car. Something to do with the DPF catching on fire.
>>
>>28682795
You just described the same issues the M57 has.
>>
>>28682817

The M57 doesn't have any of those issues. Fuck off, retard.
>>
>>28682816
That was the EGR cooling system failing. It happens when cars are ran long period of time at idle or slow traffic without proper maintenance.
>>
>>28682816
>>28682826
You're both wrong. Piggy got killed because he was driving 130mph when his engine siezed because the anglos, like the mutts, can't into maintenance.

For $2.8K that's a no brainer despite the nigger wheels and obviously neglected maintenance. It has the M Sport package, and nice seats and steering wheel.

That should be an N57 I think, the only real issue is the bullshit emissions system and the timing chain. Be ready to remove the emissions stuff and tune, and maybe replace the timing chain.
>>
>>28682777
>>28682784

Thanks lads, only reason I had pause is that some people have said if it's never been changed leave it that way as the shavings are good for it at that point, which always seemed like bullshit to me. I'll look into ordering some fluids now.
