Does 2025 Mini Cooper S count? Not top of the line, but it still absolutely shits on something like 1990s Golf GTI mk3.

Wife got 2025 mini and it's a lot of fun. Wish it was the jcw though. However there's noticeable throttle lag, which is the only annoying aspect of drive these.

Why wouldn't it count? It's a souped up version of a hatchback. It is the literal definition of a hot hatch, even if it's a bit pudgy. Not like we didn't have fat hot hatches before.

Yeah, I noticed that while it goes 0-100 quite nice, you need to kickdown in advance to do something as trivial as overtaking a truck during normal drive. In this particular moment 204hp of BMW's bi-turbo falls short in comparison to some 150hp of shitboxy hybrids.

IDK maybe they designed that engine with some mhev in mind like BMW does, but hybrid system doesn't hit in Cooper?

Put it in sport mode

FIT under Cooper's hood.

I think a hot hatch needs 300+hp now
200hp is what we had 25years ago when cars were significantly lighter

even the 1.5 B38 136hp model will blow the front tires off when you press the gas pedal
minis are pretty light for a new car

Not that anon, but I found that until you turn it into "eco" mode (or however it's called), these modes mostly change fake engine sounds that come from the speaker and sensitivity of pedal. I haven't noticed much change in actual performance.

However I've made less than 1000km on one of these.

my mom has one, the regular mode is very sluggish and upshifts too soon, the sport mode makes all the difference. flick the button next to the Start switch
never tried eco mode, I don't want to torture the poor car

You mean during golden days of hot hatch? Cooper S goes 0-100km/h in less than 7 seconds - 6.6 or 6.1 depeding of version, according to producer. It's 2 seconds worse in comparison to new S3/Golf R, but that's very price point.

If Golf GTI is gold standard of hot hatch for young europoors, then when it comes to performance Cooper S is somewhere in mk6 or mk7 zone. That's 2010s, not 25yo car.

I guess it's a question if something like Slayer can be considered metal, when there are deathmetal bands that play even faster.

Mini Cooper isn't a light car. It's tiny but that thing still weighs 2700 lbs for the lightest version which puts it in the range of the Corolla, civic, focus, and golf category of cars

Does she look cute in it? I bet she does you sly dog you
>>

Look up the weight of the 2020 models of the cars you listed.

do you actually believe this? Is this your first car? Wheelspin doesn't mean fast

i recently picked up a 2024 f55 cooper S and love it, i got to test drive the 2025 f65 S as a loaner for a few days while the car was getting its inspection, and honestly they neutered it a bit. They pushed it over 3000lbs (fat) and removed the paddle shifters and got rid of the really fun switches on the interior. The car is definitely more utilitarian nimble city commuter than angry little hatch. What really made me fall in love with it was how it feels like a 2015 car, before it became an iphone on wheels. Full analog controls, tight steering, analog needles and lights, not a screen.
