Is 0W-8 a meme? It's what new Toyota's call for. Seems very thin
>>
>>28681798
Thin oil is so your engine blows up before 100,000km while getting slightly better l/100km
>>
>>28681799
Noooo the engineers know best!!! Every car is engineered to be the fastest, most comfortable car ever!! How DARE you insinuate that a company does something for *gasp* MONEY!!!
>>
>>28681798
Just use water
>>
>>28681800
I bet you would get even better fuel economy if you just used diesel instead of engine oil
>>
I use 5W-40 in my old shitbox toyota even though it calls for 5W-30
>>
>5w30 gets widespread adoption
>boomers get their panties twisted in a bunch screaming how it's LITURALLY WATUH and it's going to destroy engines
>no engines destroyed because of 5w30 after years of use

>0w20 get widespread adoption
>boomers get their panties twisted in a bunch screaming how it's LITURALLY WATUH and it's going to destroy engines
>no engines destroyed because of 0w20 after years of use

>0w16 get widespread adoption
>boomers get their panties twisted in a bunch screaming how it's LITURALLY WATUH and it's going to destroy engines
>no engines destroyed because of 0w16 after years of use

yeah buddy I bet it's going to be a totally different story with 0w8 this time around!!

okay retard

ive been using 5w30 in my camry, even though it says it's supposed to have 0w8 but i had a corolla that called for 0w20 and let the dealer do the oil changes and it lost power before it was traded in
>>
>>28681800
The engineers know better, it's the bean counters and jew regulations to forces them into doing shitty engineering.
>>
>>28681888
kek retard
no I am not elaborating. this is your problem
>>
>>28681985
Unfortunately this idea requires a certain floor of auto knowledge and IQ that filters a significant portion of society
>>
>>28681988
You would elaborate all fucking day long if you knew what you were actually talking about and had something to back it up but because you're just an obese dweeb listening to bullshit hearsay from old farts acting smug on the internet is everything you can muster

It's all EPA cheating bullshit. Ignore it because the EPA requires the engine to run the fluid it was tested with.

All you need to know is -15°c to 35°c are livable outside temperatures. If the measurements needed to be more precise it would have been in Fahrenheit. Stay in school kid.

If it's a Honda or a Toyota, changing oil is optional
>>
>>28681888
>Use 0w-20 in GM 6.2L
>Engine spins bearings
>Factory changes recommended oil to 0w-40
Oh no
Anyways
>>
>>28682822
Jewneral Motors was jewing out on manufacturing and QA and shipped shoddy product. When they got red handed instead of fixing the problem by replacing shoddily manufactured engines they switched to a thicker oil as a remedy. On the same model of motor not part of the recall they still recommend 0W20
>>
>>28682842
>jewing out on manufacturing and QA
That's every car maker in the world anon.
Why risk ruining your engine when there is basically no drawback to a 0w-30 or 0w-40?

You lose what?
0.04 MPG?
>>
>>28682851
why risk buying a GM in the first place lol
>>
>>28681798
Only way to tell is with a used oil analysis, everything else is hearsay.

did this bearing fail because of 0w20?

This, pic rel has been running 5W-20, which then evolved to 0W-20 for 23 years straight and it's still not blowing engines, GM products are just horrible and people should stay away
>>
>>28682875
Toyota claims it was "manufacturer debris"
But we all know that's just the Japanese trying to save face.
The 2025 tundra engines are also failing.
Toyota is no longer a reliability leader.

I also accept your concession.

did this bearing fail because of 0w20?
>>
>>28681798
>Is 0W-8 a meme?
It works for reducing frictional losses, but it has zero tolerance for neglect. 0W-20 and 5W-20 will work for the hybrid engines that demand this type of oil.
>>
>>28682901
0w-16 but yes.
didn't you read the articles?
>>
>>28682822
>use 0w-20 in toyota 1.8L
>engine runs great
>has literally never broke down
>factory recommends changing the oil regularly
oh yeah
anyways
>>
>>28681798
I pity the fool wain't use RED LINE 5W40 in they vehicular automobile
>>
0w-8 is basically WD40
>>
>>28683216
That's probably a another huge reason engines are failing, normies just aren't taking care of it, or they're doing dummy long oil intervals because they can't afford their GM 6.2L truck to begin with, so they blow it up with low miles due to lack of maintenance with their Hyundai tier ownership.
>>
>>28681799
go to sleep grampa
>>
>>28683216
I put 0w20 in my oil fouling civic and redline all day erryday and it still runs as smooth as day 1. I stuck to the thin factory transmission oil too, fuck that 20w90 shit redditors recommend
>>
>>28683403
Same, I'm still on 0W-20 with bunches of miles and abuse and it's still not too thin with all the wear, Honda is based as shit at making vehicles., everybody else take note, get yourself a Honda engine to tear down and try and learn something.
>>
>>28683408
I've done amateur rally on a 30minute uphill course with nothing but a pair of shitty bridgestone tyres that spun wildly on every second gear corner exit and then drove home and didnt change the oil until the recommended interval was up

meanwhile fags in cars 5 times the price need to get fucking cooling upgrades and change oil after every time they start their car
>>
>>28682941
Every other bearing surface on the crankshaft from the same engine looks fine
>>
>>28682822
maybe GM just sucks lol
>>
>>28681798
I use 0w20 in my wife's corolla. It's specified in non-US manuals for cars with the same engine, and it's easier to find. They call for such thin oil for emissions/fuel economy standards anyway and the car still gets >35mpg even with the thicker oil.
>>
Most newer engines that are hybrids actually have problems keeping the oil heated. I wouldn't dare use 5w30 instead of 0w20 in my maverick because the temperature gauge often drops a few levels just from coasting with the engine off. I'm eager to get the factory fill out so I can put in pennzoil ultra (thinner in winter than ford oil).
>>
>>28684509
That's why 0W-20 oil is actually based as shit, it's super well lubricating the moment you start it so you don't smoke the shit out of the bearings in severe use cold weather, start stops, etc, it also as a really high temperature range if change the oil regularly, it's not uncommon to see a 7000 rpm engine in a little sporty car running just fine on 0W-20, I'm not saying go beat on it at the track doing AutoX all day, but you're not gonna hurt the engine with spirited driving, an engine can score bearings even with 0W-40 in there when beaten on so you really can't win, just take care of your car and send it.
>>
>>28682887
I'm not even a Toyota shill but literally every other car in their line up is doing just as good as they have always done. Tundra's have always been the redheaded stepchild of the Toyota lineup.
>>
>>28684720
This is lies cuz the Tacoma is shitting the bed too with engines and transmissions. The replacing of the NA engines with turbos is the problem.

Toyota's hybrid stuff is all just fine, but anything big they sell with turbos in it is shitting
>>
>>28682877
This was actually running 5w30 in early versions, the oil cap changed to 5w20 on the same engines one year. Chances are if you bring it to the dealership and get the cheap shitty oil change they'll give you bulk 5w30.

I use 0w20 in winter and 5w30 in other seasons, just spiffy.
