Bought a 3300$ car, then taxes and registration in another place than I got it so like 3800. Tires 900 installed and balanced, good touring tires. Alternator was good, original denso. Plugs, thermostat, serpentine belt, water pump, ignition coils, front struts, rear bearings, rear pads, oil change, brake fluid flush, upper torque motor mount. Now it drives 98% like it did originally with a small vibration at highway speeds. Nice leather, full size sedan, v6. Only has 75,000 miles on it, almost 20 years old. Some rust, only a couple tiny spots that are visible which I should have done. Paint is wearing off it, needs a paint job. Pretty much a full size luxury sedan for 7k. I dont know why anyone buys new cars, even if you had to dump 5k into a solid used one. Thats nowhere near the price of a new Ford Bronco, which its worth noting are absolute dogshit. This car was specifically made with fine tolerances to reduce road and engine noise. I had a guy standing in my window the other night and we werent even talking about my car, hes just like wow is it ever quiet. Didnt know it was on.
Most people solely want a consistent method of transport that offers no surprises.
>>28682118Thats what a Lucerne with a 3800 is.
>>28682118I mean okay what so let me agree with you. Is your solution a twin turbod 1.4L ford that takes 12 hours to do a timing belt on it? Over a non aspirated 3800 with 75,000 miles.
My favorite thing in the world is someone like this guy>>28682118Who goes out and buys pic related.

>>28682107>I've dumped 4k into a 3k car and is now worth 5k. It's also rusty and needs a paintjob and drives like shit on the highway. Yeah bro, no idea why someone would choose to buy new instead of a used lemon.
>>28682176Its a Quebec car brought into Ontario. Quebec has cheaper cars. If bought at a dealer the car can be given a pass by the dealership, and it becomes exceedingly easy to register it in Ontario where as otherwise with a private sale you run into the cant insure it, so cant register it, so cant insure it, so cant register it loop.
>>28682178With rust conversion and a paint job, along with minor body work its a 12-15,000$ US car. Thats what they go for at auction.
Its worth noting aside from the serpentine belt, which only screeched on startup if it was between -2 celcius and -8 celcius but not at -10 or below when it was super cold.. and even still always fired right up just about as well as my 2 civics and CRV used to. Aside from that it was all either preventative maintenance, like water pump was not causing problems but its original and 17 years old and the serp belts coming off, why not. Coils are old, cheap to fix why not. Thermostat, 15 dollars like 5 minutes fix it. The tires were literally 17 years old, original. I drove them for 5000km before noticing, and the rest was for ride smoothness but it has not once broken down. Its about 7,000km into ownership now, always starts, even in extreme cold etc.
One time in winter it wouldnt start on the street during a winter parking ban, and Id be towed if I couldnt move it. So I had to call a tow truck to tow it like literally 20 feet. We tried and tried but it just wouldnt even attempt to start, nothing. He hooks the cables up, and is about to winch it onto the bed and we try one more time, it starts. He only charged me like half, but yea ignition switch I think, or the starter was just so cold it has a spring that just didnt engage. I was going to fix the starter but it turned out to be fine. So might be that ignition switch recall, but it has never caused a problem since.
>>28682181Uh… What? You can easily buy a car from quebec, insure it and drive back with it, just ask the seller to keep his plates on for the duration. Ontario insurance only cares for the VIN. Worst case just get SAAQ to give you a temporary plate with the ontarian insurance. Fuck i’ve literally insured cars I didn’t own (as i was on the way to purchase it) which *shouldnt* be allowed but ontarian insurance couldn’t care less.
>>28682220When I was registering my car in Ontario there was a guy beside me who also bought a car from Quebec and hes like well how do I X, if I cant Z, like I need to X, so I can Z, but I cant X, without Z. I dont know the exact specifics but with a private sale, its a cunt. My father used to tell me about it, Ive heard about it several times and places. The tax thing isnt bad you pay like 8% in Quebec then like 5% more in Ontario. No I swear its buying from a dealership, makes it all a breeze other people run into a huge bitch of a wall.
>>28682192LMAO delusional tard
>>28682220You need to register it ontario, you cant insure a car you cant register. The dealership gives you an ability to insure it before registering it. If its not registered to you, you cant insure someone elses car. They wont let you register in Ontario if its not insured, otherwise youd probably need to safety it or something. And then that implies towing fees. I think thats it.
>>28682231Theres none available on classic.com. But Ive seen the historic auction data and yes they go easily for 10k US. Only in the US, they dont sell in Canada properly. But with 120,000km, 75,000 miles, all issues addressed, no rust (converted), no body issues, and a fresh paint job yea 15k US. They go higher, especially if custom.
>>28682146I never said there was a good option. A brand new vehicle with a 3800 would be great. Problem is that rubber rots and metal corrodes over time.
>>28682258It does, I just avoided a 4500 canuckbuck transmission job because of what I thought was the torque converter. My mechanic is a great guy, cheap and good work but it takes a long time to get in with him. Anyways hes a friend, drove it like 3x and its an 80kph to 100kph issue where it was shaking. It was in fact that one back bearing, last issue I needed fixed. Its smooth as air now, anything left can be attributed to age or maybe it was always just like that. All the fixes were preventative, yea I still have to watch the valve cover its the plastic original not the aluminum replacement and so its gasket might be an issue in future. If I did do the transmission, Id have done the rear main seal.Front main seal, valve cover gasket. Theres not a whole lot to worry about. The transmission was like my guys cheap hours but cant do real deep tranny work, specialist will dick around taking it apart measuring tolerances deciding what to fix no matter what, like the TCC if its shuddering the solenoids probably fucked, so what if the valve guides are also shit up with crap fluid and debris, clutch packs no doubt should be replaced blah blah. So a remanu, instead, just do the whole thing fuck it, buy it, slap it on. Same price pretty much, or nearly enough that saying "brand new transmission" is worth it alone.
>>28682107What state? Sold one of those Buic Lucerns off recently....
Congrats. You still have a 3k car.
>>28682365I would encourage you to find one in Canada in such condition protip you cant. Here lets play, Ill go look now. On one source, yea you can comb kijii or something for crackhead cars.
>>28682411>>28682365Where are the lucernes?

>>28682118They wouldn't be surprised when buying a car if they could tell what they were looking at to begin with.
>>28682176filthy fuckin queeb
>>28682365>yeah i drive an unreliable slopified nucar but at least it was more expensive than yours you poorgood cope, keep it up
>>28682411I will encourage you to find someone who cares. Go find a buyer willing to pay what the cars owes you.
>>28682176Fucking snow frog have the balls to secede already and quit infecting the rest of this country with your dogshit left-wing claptrap.
I mean that's great but other than being comfy on the highway they are the most impractical vehicle. >can't haul furniture >gets worse mpg than everything else unibody in town>handles obtuse and overly large for driving one person around in city Doesn't have mpgs, much function or much enjoyment. It's priced appropriately.
>>28682258Brother I daily a car from 1991 with original suspension parts in a place with harsh winters, 0 issues. New cars are built like shit. My friends with brand new cars are always complaining about them being in the shop. Why do you think your parents washer from 1974 still works great but your brand new Samsung touchscreen clusterfuck with Bluetooth™ and some gay app lasts 2-3 years?
>>28682107Even better to buy an old Toyota or Honda. Do all the repairs yourself that are feasible and save a fuckton of money
