This has been explained a million times, but I'll do it again. European trailers are built differently from American ones. Notice how the ones in the pics in this thread have their wheels dead center along the length of the trailer, this is to put more of the weight behind the axles, which means low tongue weight so lighter-duty vehicles can haul the same load. The downside is that they're much less stable at high speed. This, along with being towed by vehicles with weak brakes and limited engine braking, is why towing speed limits are lower across Europe and why many roads don't allow trailers at all. (Especially mountains etc.) That's not an option in the US. People need to tow long distance through areas where highways with fast-moving traffic are the only route, as well as across mountains on twisty steep roads etc. This means our trailers are built for stability and our vehicles are rated for towing at high speeds and in difficult conditions.
