Instead of spending $25 on a fancy magnetic oil drain plug, couldn't you simply stick one of those rare earth fridge magnets to the end of your existing plug and get the same results?
Is there a chance it would dislodge itself? What the worst that could happen in a car with an aluminum oil pan?

Silly anon, aluminum isn't magnetic.
>>
>>28685430
what's the worst that an ultra dense piece of metal flying around your sump could do?!
I dunno anon, probably nothing. Give it a try.
>>
>>28685434
but its a very strong magnet, if it somehow comes off your drain bolt, it would get stuck to the first ferrous material it finds. either your oil pan, windage tray, oil pickup, or your rod caps.
>>
>>28685484
so what's the point having it then? also the pan will be aluminum, so non-magnetic
>>
>>28685486
what are even the chances of it becoming dislodged from the drain plug in a non magnetic pan?
if the pan is non magnetic, whats the next closest magnetic item the magnet will attach itself to?
even if the pickup is plastic, the windage tray will catch it. or some random pan bolt.
point is, its not going to get sucked into anything.
auto trans keep magnets attached to the pan without any restraints.

>what are even the chances of it becoming dislodged from the drain plug
seeing as OP is planning on DIYing the magnet into the plug, pretty fucking high

I don't see how it could be dislodged, especially if it's glued on. There are magnets inside transmission cases and they don't get dislodged, and there's a lot more moving stuff than in an oil pan. There are also magnetic rings for oil filters that you slide on top of the filter, you could DIY one of those, I dunno if they actually work though.

I ONLY use GOLD PLUG magnetic drain bolts in my BMWs
(except for the E39; the damn threads are wrong)

>DIYing the magnet into the plug
People do this all the time. I have a magnet like that in every single one of my small engines, all 8 of them.
Not a single one has come lose. Not a single one even got stuck to the threads when doing an oil change. They capture a ton of shit after the first oil change, especially when doing a break in. I need to find a way to do the same for all my 2strokes. Those have a lot more wear.
If it can survive 50 hours in an unbalanced single piston engine, it can survive in a modern vehicle.
People will take oblong shaped HDD magnets, tie them off with safety wire and keep them inside their power steering reservoirs.

Likewise, they even sell inline fuel filters with a little magnet inside. I bought a pack and after running them for a few months I can see a few small specks of magnetic particles they caught. Not that any of my small engines use fuel injectors, I can see this being beneficial in a modern vehicle.
They sell external magnets to wrap around your oil filter, you could do the same for vehicles your fuel filter.

filter magnets are retarded, metallic particles already get trapped by the filter media. All this does is trap them against the side of the filter case.

a lot of auto trans oil pans use magnets in specific spots to collect debris
>>
>>28685430
honestly it's a meme. any ferrous metals floating around either gets filtered by the oil filter or it gets embedded in a bearing.

Government shut down one month and you niggers are already poorer than the average europoor huh?

bruh, magnets come factory in transmission pans.

Nah. I kinda want them to fuck around and drag this out until December. No one gets to fly home for Thanksgiving.

why the magnet tho

youve clearly never done an oil change in your life retard. oil pick up tubes have screens, which in turn go to filters

tell that to tacoma owners

I put magnets on my fuel lines, the only place they should be.

do you also have one of those fuel saving devices plugged into your 12v socket

Aluminium. Retard.
>>
>>28685486
>[if the block is aluminum] what's the point having [the magnet] then?
To pick up particulate from bearing or cylinder sleeve wear which are bigger indicators of engine wear.
>>
>>28686656
Shut up eurofaggot. You wouldn't even have access to aluminum if it wasn't for an American chemist, and we spell it the non-retarded way.

And this is precisely why I wrote aluminum. To avoid mutts sperging out over dumb trivial shit like usual. And now you did it first. Great job, slav retard.
